Coping with internal exams

I have had a few and I don;t like them either Ive had most of them when I wasn't pregnant and 2 since I got pregnant.
Im not a fan but i just get on with them....
i Just go into lala land when their doing them IM a whimp tho and I get my OH to hold my hand,,,

Trumpetbum you really made me laugh out loud this mornin!!

I used to cry at the thought of them but I had a bad bad medical phobia! I'm not so bad now after hypnotherapy, I let my mind go elsewhere n breathe deep!

Trumpetbum: u really made me laugh cheered me up.

on the other side i only have them in labour and i was in that much pain i was past caring about the internal, although when i had zack she went to check how dulated i was and it was so sore by the time she had removed her hand i was 10cm and ready to push she must have pushed my cevix open that extra 1cm. called her a bitch lol.

Ok, so I've had an internal every month this pregnancy and earlier in this thread said how they have never hurt...

Well this morning the gynae said "this might be uncomfortable" and I didn't think anything of it as it's not normally but oh my, it freakin hurt! Really intense lower back pain with it.

Hmm, so then I asked, and yes, in the 9th month the internals normally hurt.

So we aren't just a bunch of whimps then lol! You would think nature would be working on making us as numb as possible down there so it will not hurt so much in labor :dohh: mean old mother nature xx

I have my first internal exam Tuesday at 35 weeks. I wasn't expecting it to be any more unpleasant then say a regular OBGYN appt... I'm glad I have this thread to prep me although it is not at all comforting LOL

Bless you! It might just make you jump, that's what it did to me, really felt it in my back. Guess it was a good thing I wasn't tensed up beforehand x

They dont really bother me

I just look the other way and kinda space out, its a little uncomfortable but he doesnt stay up there digging around forever, lol.

I haven't had any internal examinations done yet but to be honest i am really terrified of having it doe lol..I know i sound like a right baby! but i hear they are really painful I personally don't know how i will cope with one i am more scared of an internal and stitches then i am of giving birth! lol...But i reckon if you just breath through them and think it needs to be done for the sake of your baby then that is what must be done...Or you could just try mind over matter... Although that may be very hard to concentrate LOL

It does hurt, especially when your baby is engaged (I knew my internal hurt when I was in labour with Sofia, but thought that was to do with the contractions rather than the head) but it does only last a minute.

When you have an internal how far does the doctor put his fingers/hands in lol...I just thought it would feel like someone is forcing their hands in or something lol

Oh no, I don't actually feel his hands as such (which is why it's never hurt up until now, I've had one every month), it's obviously the cervix is sensitive now as it's thinning and I think that's why it hurts when he touches it.

I remember in my 1st pregnancy when my contractions had started I had a male midwife he was very tall and stcky so you can imagine the size of his hands I don't think I've ever felt pain like that before in my life! Ones I've had in other pregnancies have been a walk in the park compared to that one lol. x

I didn't have any during my pregnancy until I was overue an started getting sweeps. I had 3 sweeps which were uncomfortable rather than sore, by the time I had my son I think more people in the hospital had examined me then I can remember, it wasn't very nice but it has to be done, by the end I couldn't have cared less who was doing what I think you just get used to it. It's amazing that as soon as baby comes out you go all shy again. I'm dreading my 6 week check and living in the hope she takes my word for it that things are back to normal!!!

To me its more awkward having OH sitting in the room with another male sticking his fingers up there, LOL. I know he's just doing his job, but I feel bad that OH has to watch, lol.
