Designer baby clothes your views

We bought two huge e-bay budles to start with, one in newborn and one in 0-3 months as I did not see the point in spending more on something DS would grow out of quick and when I did not know what size he would be at birth (I was 5lbs 12ox so in early baby but DH was 10lbs so newborn would not have fit. We was told to expect him to be larger side of average but he was 6lbs 14ox). So early on I really do think basic is best and although any leaking nappies a quick clean in clothes now the early poop could get messy! We then got some things bought for us and got some from Primark and I hate Primark baby clothes (although I do buy from there myself) as they are quite bad quality and shrink IMO (although the fleecy sleep suits are decent). My son quickly only had clothes from the Gap, Mexx, Ben Sherman and a few from pumpkin patch BUT that was simply because my MIL and step-FIL (he is their first and likely only grandchild) go crazy and we get a big bag of clothes each time we see her. I love my sons clothes and think they are so cute so I am glad he has them but I must admit if we did have to buy them ourself I would not spend so much. We also buy baby leggings and ladybird soft trousers for around the house simply because they fit my tall and thin son really well.

Like some of the others have said if you can afford it then it is not too bad but not at the expense of something else. I personally like clothes based on the fit and quality more than a label though.

I'm trying to remember if I've paid full price for any of LO's clothes. Oh yes, I bought some undershirts because I was having trouble finding 2ndhand ones. I've been given a lot and bought many on my own secondhand. I don't know how some of you who say your children don't get stained keep your kids clean. Mine has to wear an art apron while eating for her shirts to be wearable after meals (bibs do not cut it--she takes them off, lifts them up etc), she's constantly dirty on the knees from crawling and don't get me started on the goo she comes home covered in from nursery.
However, I knew and expected all this so I planned accordingly and thus would not spend much on clothing because of that. Form, function and stain resistance for me over any label.

I think the stain free-ness is because he's a young baby. He only eats one small meal a day and that's usually porridge or something that wouldn't leave a mark. I find poo stains wash out. Apart from that, it's just dribble. I think once he starts crawling and eating properly, we're gonna get some real mess!

He's not wearing designer designer (nice way of putting it!) clothes though. He normally wears Gap, Next, Monsoon, Little Rocha or Zara but I buy a lot of it second hand. He's wearing some RLR jeans today that I got brand new for a quid on ebay. They look cute AND I won't cry if they get ruined!

We buy Emma's stuff from all over. Neither OH or I are particularly designer label people so we don't buy them for Emma. I do feel they are a bit of a waste of time for kids as they grow out of everything so quickly while an adult would have the opportunity to get more wear. That said we bought a hugely expensive handmade dress for Emma's first birthday- not designer but probably a lot more expensive.

If you can afford it then fine. Spend your money as you wish. But people who buy designer clothes and trainers for their LOs when struggling so as to 'keep up with the Jones' are just daft in my opinion and have their priorities all wrong.

Chloe and Jaycee have some expensive stuff but most of their clothes are from Tesco, Primark, Asda, Sainsburys and places like that.
I do think that some stuff is far too expensive for a child that might ruin it easily. I rather stick to the cheaper stuff as the girls ruin loads of clothes at nursery.

I don't mind what people dress their little ones in but I think they need dressing appropriately for the situation - when I was a nursery nurse it made me really cross when parents brought their children to nursery in really expensive clothes & said 'make sure they don't get it dirty' Ok so no painting, sand, playing outside, gloop, cooking or playdough for you then little one!! Have fun sitting in the corner! The other annoying one was kids in posh jeans with complicated belts when they were potty training & would have been better in tracksuit bottoms!!

Designer clothes aren't really my style. I really like the "t-shirt and jeans" look, and dress my son like this as well. Target all the way! $3 for t-shirts and $5 for pants  Then I'm able to get a bunch of them and not have to do laundry as often :haha:

And I find that regardless of how much you spend on an item, it still gets that worn look, which I don't like. So (for myself) I buy cheap $10 mini t's and tanks, and just get new ones every year.

Elleah has some designer gear....which has all been either a gift, hand me downs or a bargain scored from an OP (second hand) shop

I find just as cute stuff in the cheap department store. And lets face it its gonna get vomit, wee poo and food on it at some stage and grown out of in 10 seconds flat.

But each to their own. Bragging about it is lame. Im not a fan of people that are flashy with their money. If u have it, great, but you dont need to gloat about it!! x

I do love hand knitted stuff too. Mostly as someone has made it with their own hands and time for us. I cherish those things more than labels I ahve to say.

oooo yes! My mum has knitted some beautiful pieces for my LO. Cant put a price tag on those!! :flower:

I dont think my kids have any really, M wont wear ANYTHING unless it has sonic or toy story on it (apart from school uniform) and R just chooses most of her own things, I still like Monsoon clothes for her best =)

I dont buy anything overly expensive, wont last long and I am not into designers, I wouldnt notice if someones child was wearing designer LOL.

M always has nike air max trainers but I dont class that as designer to be honest?

if you can affored it why not? its a bit like a thread before about expensive prams. Kyle has clothes from all over, be it a carboot sale, pumkin patch, asda, tesco, sainsbursy, or ted baker.. Normally i buy his "shoes" trainers from JJB/sports and soccer. since im a jeans and shirt kinda person and it suits kyle oh is just the same. But he also has a pair of clarks trainers now i can spend £10-£30 in jjb or £26+ in clarks and get a much wider pick in jjb lol

Gabe's has clothes from tesco, h&m, asda, mothercare, second hand ones, all over.

I did buy him a gorgeous Ted Baker hoody from Debenhams a while back (that he probably won't fit in for six months at the rate he's growing lol) but only cause it was in the sale.

If I had more money I would probably buy him some more expensive clothes a little more often, but I doubt I'd ever only dress my baby in designer gear, it seems a bit of a waste of money.

I wouldn't judge anyone else for buying only designer clothes, but I'd think they were dicks if they went on about it all the time.

I dont think anyone had a problem with buying expensive gear for bubs if u have the money to do so, but bragging about it is another thing.....

Another  for handmade clothes!
My darling maman has spoiled her grandsons with beautiful handknit sweaters and the cutest pajamas that she whips up herself on the sewing machine.
They are really special. The effort that goes into them is priceless. :cloud9:

I just bought Jaxon a pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans today, in size 6-9 mths.

I bought them at a second hand store for $3!!! A deal like that is a brag worthly.

However, I would not buy any name brand/designer clothes for Jaxon, brand new. Cost to much. I can go over to Kohls and get a nice outfit for like $10 dollars on sale! That works for me.

I do think it is important that once kids start walking they should have good quality shoes.

That's one thing I never buy for myself second hand and won't for Erin either, I like them to fit well and be sturdy. Her first shoes will be from Clarks, mine were..its like tradition lol. Although I don't class Clarks as designer, just a shoe specialists?

I agree babyerin as someone who used to fit childrens shoes :)

If you can afford it then fair enough but why brag about it, it doesn't make you a better mother
