Hey ladies when you drop the sperm off at the clinic do they test it that day?? Funny question, but never been and sometimes wonder if the sample is set about waiting for the people to do something with it!!

My Oh just said you had to dump it in the box on reception how long are things left there for? Surley that can affect things cant it?
xx

think its tested really quickly...maybe within 2 hrs.... we have dropped samples off twice & always handed it over in person & said what it was...DH was very embarrassed bless him but at least we know they have got it safe lol....xx

Well we handed it in on the 13th and it was tested on the 15th its got date etc on it? How does that work????

I assumed it be tested that day
xx

I think it would be tested the same day. Maybe the date is when the analysed the results or something.

when my OH did his, it gives you the times of when it was produced(by the time my oh wrote on it) handed in and then examined. it was examined 10mins after it was handed in. hopfully its the same everywhere.

We had to deliver the sample within 2 hours of it being produced and it was tested straight away - any longer means the results would be inaccurate x

Hi when dh did sa x2 we had to deliver within 30 mins as they said it had to be analyzed straight away. We require to hand in another sample for our ivf referral to another health board and to be received within 1 hour and we have a specific time slot so it can be analyzed straight away.

I think the date two days post sample will be a time of results being relayed onto comp, i know that results for other tests at my work appear like that.

We had to have the sample there with in 2hrs of getting it and then hand it to a person and it was tested straight away.

My DH had to make an appt to take his in as they had to make sure they had someone there that could test it right away.

2hrs, by that time surley the little men would be quite dead surley, they say within an hour!!

The hospital we first delivered SA too, was a good 30mins drive, and my oh rides a motorbike so i am thinking maybe this has affected the results as alot of them were dead!! I am thinkin its due to the time of it getting there and maybe tested!!

I also know on his SA 2nd, well if im honest OH was soooooooooo ill but we still needed to have the results for gyno so it was a bit of a win win catch situation and he did it and them results arent so good!!

So we are in for another sample.. I have added him on the new wellman conception tablets so these take around 2 weeks to kick in and hoping to do 2 samples for them, over 3months hoping they improve!! Do you think its a good idea giving two samples in??

Only i really think we could if we need to improve things.. I know SA results change so much due to things like stress, health, being unwell just general day to day things! However im not saying he didnt have any, cause he did but alot on the test were dead and it made me think it was something to do with the time it may have been tested or left out..
xxxx

if it was handed in & looked at within an hour after it was done, then i dont think that'll of affected the results hun.

Who knows, if its handed and dealt with in an hour tho.. I mean one lady on this post said it needed to be in 2hrs, i really think by then the men wud be dead!!
xx

Ours had to be there within an hour! And iof they were transported, in car etc then they had to be kept warm (under armpit or down pants!!)

Yep we got told an hour, however OH rides a motorbike and no matter how much clothing you put on its cold!! And the hopsital is a good 30mins drive if not longer, so i do believe that maybe these results were left a little longer than should be!!

Only there was alot of the little men dead, which makes me wonder that time was against us.. however were moving forward and going to repeat another sample in few weeks and also another sample a few weeks after that one so they have more tests to go off, hoping the new wellman conception tablets will help on the motility which was the problem not the count
xx

I know its not very nice but how about your OH do his sample at the hospital? That way you're iliminating the cold factor :)

I actually thought that myself, do they have little rooms do you think for them??? I think thats the best idea myself.. Also last day we did it on day3 do you think thats the best? They say no longer than 5.. 3 to 4 being the best xx

We have had 4 or 5 of these samples done with two different fertility clinics and they have both said that the sample has to be produced and tested with 1 hour... after that the sperm start to die off. They told us that if it went over the hour we would have to do another sample, sometimes not easy when trying to wade your way through rush hour traffic! The best option is to the sample at the hospital so its fresher :hugs:

Beauty our next sa is at a different hospital and has to be there within the hour at a booked time, we have been told a room is available as no chance of us getting there within the hour.

We had one today and they said within an hour too...I sen her hand it off to the lab person right away, so that was reassuring...I got it there 20-25 min after it was "produced"...carried it in my BBs, then switched to my crotch as it was warmer...lol We will have the results Monday....but in answer to your question...2 hours is too long IMO...Yhe cold may affect his men...best to just DTD there next time. What were the results hon?

From a slightly different perspective, I just spoke to my FS about this and he told us that in the right container (sterile) and at room temperature you can get a reasonable amount of sperm to live for up to 3 days....certainly enough for fertilisation.

He explained this to as an option for TTC as my OH is military and occasionally get sent away at short notice, missing Ov.

My understand about testing is that they start testing immediately but continue testing for several days to test longevity and how much they are moving about and forward etc. The time limit to get them to hospital is so they can start on them as fresh as possible.
