Exotic Pets of the Ferret Variety

id love to let mine have free run of the house, but litter training was much more difficult than i thought so instead they just have a designated spare room which is just for them xx

That is so cool, I've heard of that before! I would love for Harley to have her own room to go crazy in! She hates her cage, so I just have her out all day while I'm home.
Her and my dog are best friends, lol. My dog thinks he's a ferret, and my ferret thinks she's a dog!

I got my ferret as a baby, but she was already litter trained, thank goodness.

lol they are so hard to tidy up after this way though!! my ferrets hated their cage so i just decided to give them a room lol...

i got all mine as babies too but for some reason they just will not take to a litter tray in any other part of the house...the nip training was the worst lol...especially our male!! x

I was really scared of that at first, she bit my sister the day we got her and I was like oh no, what are we gonna do! I was terrified of her, I wouldn't hold her and if she was on the ground I would run and jump on the bed! Now she gives me kisses and lays with me, and she is the sweetest little thing! She does bite toes though, if she is under the blanket she will go down to where your feet are and bite them! She is just playing though, so its funny :)

:haha: ye i was terrified of our male for a while cause his bite was so much stronger than the girls. he actually drew blood!! all of ours bite toes lol...ive came to the conclusion that if i wear slippers all the time my toes will be ok!! does yours try to climb up your leg? xx

Yes! Especially when I have on pajama pants, whether I'm laying down or standing up she will get under my pants and try to climb. Its so cute :) That time she bit my sister was the only time she has ever bitten rather than toes! I got lucky I guess, because my step mom used to have ferrets and they all bit!

mine can be a bit nippy when they play but i think its cause they are still young? how old is yours?

I've had her for about five months, she had just got to the store when I bought her so she was as young as you can buy them! The vet told me how old she was when we first got her, but I can't remember :( She is still really young though!

I had 2 ferrets when I lived at home about 5 years old. The female (Jilly) was a bit nasty but the male (Jake) was so soft, when I was alot younger he would sleep in my bed with me and loved being curled up on the sofa! I was given him by a man who had rescued him, he was found on the river in a plastic bag :(

Jake only ever bit once in the years that I had him and that was because Mum was sqeaking a sqeaky toy at him and he was excited!

One morning I got up, I went out to feed him and his hutch was open, he had gone  I managed to find the female but never got Jake back :( I made the decision to take Jilly to animal care as she was nasty.

The only problem about ferrets is they stink!

I've told hubby if Tristan asks for a pet when he is older he can either have a ferret or a rat! I don't want him having something boring like a hamster etc!

I have 2 ferrets and 2 EU Polecats

They are great fun huh

I have new additions!

Molly has had 3 kits :) And my other girl Roxy has had 8 kits, they are absolutely adorable, and all have homes lined up!! :D

Took a funny video of my boy Ajax. Quirky lil guy!

Hey all, I'm looking into getting a ferret from a local rescue centre (they have 30+, all neutered). My only concern is the smell, do you guys keep them in or out? How do you keep the smell down? x

The smell really isn't that bad. It's kind of a musky smell, and don't really notice it unless you put your face right up to them behind their ears. And especially if they have been neutered then it really cuts it down. What I always did is I would just give mine a bath about once a week, but he was a big water baby and loved bath time.

Aww that sounds lovely! I've got a 12-18 month old spayed female. She had kits recently, but the rescue man said she likes her own space, if she shows signs of loneliness, i'll get one of her daughters (she had 8 kits). I put her straight in to her hutch, she seems very keen to come and play. She's so funny, straight away she rearranged the hutch x

Ive got 2 boys called Taz and Modo their about 5 months and i love them to bits :D

I have two now Mollie and Mia :-)

Mollie is Mia's daughter, she's bigger, and now tame :-)
