First Time Mommies Due February 2016 - Anyone Want to Join Me?

I hope everybody is doing good. :)

Time has been flying by...

Logan is 1 week old today and is doing great.
Yesterday we had a midwife appointment and everything with him is perfect. The first few days he lost 5oz, but when he got weighed yesterday he had regained it all plus a little bit. He currently weighs 8lbs 10.5oz. He loves to eat and has been doing good for the most part. I'm still getting the hang of breastfeeding, but haven't had any issues yet minus being pretty sore and sensitive. He is also a pretty good sleeper. During the day he sleeps a lot and is in general a very lazy and calm baby. At night he's awake a bit more, but he normally lets me sleep for a 3 or 4 hour stretch straight through the night.

Hi Ladies,

Hard for me to get on here and update. Jayson feeds a lot during the day. More on that later . . .

Congrats to xfading and Daisy!! So excited everyone's baby has arrived. Keep posting lots of pics!!!

Duster I'm glad the abscess is clearing up and you are able to breastfeed again. I can't imagine being separated right away like that. You are a very strong momma to get through that. Don't ever worry about posting what's happening with you. It's good to know what is going on with everyone even if it's scary. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Jules, only girl! Wow! That is funny. Lucky little lady :)

Pri - Ben is so adorable and glad he's gaining weight again and doing well! I love the pics!!!!!

I've been having a little bit of difficulty with the milk overproduction. Sadly I can't pump even though I have a ton of milk!!!! because I need to slow down production for now. Jayson was starting to choke every time he fed because milk was coming out too fast. I didn't understand what was going on until I went to pump some and got 8 oz in 9 minutes of pumping on low. My doc was totally shocked when I told her that and said that's def why he's choking.

The choking was freaking me out so I've been block feeding him one side at a time until mostly drained on that side (sometimes over the course of 3 hours I stay on same side) per La Leche recommendations and he feeds very quickly (5-10minutes at a time).

He also makes the occasional stridor gasping noise which freaked me out and had me watching him breathe constantly. Pediatrician says this might just be normal as his throat muscles develop since it's usually just one occasional squeaky gasp, but he does it feeding sometimes, too, when milk is flowing too fast and it scares me. He does sleep fine and rarely makes it in sleep though.

The block feeding seems to be working. No longer as engorged so I'm hoping he feeds better as well over the next few days. The choking has only been the last 4 days and he still feeds enough. He was already 9lb 2oz at his 2 week appt!! And almost 22 inches. They said he's 95th percentile for length which makes me think he has my husbands height as I suspected when he was in my tummy. My husband is almost 6'3"

Anyway. Hubby is home until March 21 and then I'm on my own. I'm nervous about it. Are you guys home by yourselves or hubby with you? Any tips on being on your own with baby? I feel like i won't be able to get anything else done.

Panda- That's good that the block feeding is helping. How are you holding him while feeding? I've found my letdown is a bit too fast for Logan and find it helpful to hold him across my chest, tummy to tummy, while leaning back so that he's almost on top of my breast. That way he has to work against gravity a bit. Rather then the milk just dripping down into his mouth.

Right now my husband is home which is really nice. I'm lucky that he was able to take time off work. He doesn't start back until Monday the 14th.

Seems like we all have been super busy with our little ones. :)

Panda- Wow that a lit of milk! I hope things will slow down soon, because that sounds very time consuming. On the bright side he sounds like a healthy, growing boy..not to mention super handsome!

I have been home a lot by myself since hubby only had 4 days off. Things that made it easier is having things out and set up. Things I like all set up are my pump, a few diapers that I unfold on the changing table, clothes picked out for the day, my breastfeeding area with pillow, and a bin in the sink to wash pump items. I also make sure to keep snacks or leftovers around that I can eat fast because cooking or making things is hard. Don't worry , you will pick up on his schedule and come up with your own tricks to make life easier.

Fading- So glad things are going well. Your guy is a little heartbreaker as well. So many cute babies in this group! :)

Afm- Emma keeps me busy. She loves to snugglin, eat, and sleep. I have noticed she has been up and alert a lot more over the past few days. At her 2 week appts last Friday she was 20 1/2 inches and up to 8 pounds 11oz from 7 pounds 4 oz from a week before. I don't have family or many friends around and hubby has been at work so its been very busy. We are both adjusting though. I have even braved a few outings alone! I may be busy and tired, but she is so so so worth it. I am really taking in every second because it is already flying by way too fast!

Hi ladies! I'd definitely say we have all been busy! How could we not be?!

xfading and panda: love the photos! What wonderful little bundles! Panda, DH didn't take much time at all off; the first two weeks he worked twice a week and has since been back full time. It has been hard, especially with my extra hospital trip.

Jules, I agree that it is nice to have things set up and ready. I basically survive on snacks while DH is gone for the day, but he feeds me before he leaves and when he gets home so I can't complain. I also have Netflix on my phone so I can watch shows wherever I am. I need to find a basket that I can put all my things in to carry them around easier.

AFM things are going... pretty well here. I had a lactation consultant visit on Friday, who said that Dorian is transferring two ounces of milk in a half hour now! He had only been doing one, so getting that tongue tie clipped was a great idea. We are also trying EBF, no bottle feeding unless he is absolutely not satiated by the breast. He may need to feed more often though to ensure he is getting the volume he needs. We will give it a week and see where we are at.

I also had a visit with my surgeon today, and she seems to think my incision is healing well! I only have to go back in a month if the incision hasn't closed.

Today, I put together our stroller and took Dorian for a short walk. It felt really good to get out of the house, and since he wasn't sleeping, it put him right to sleep.

He is five weeks old tomorrow! Unbelievable.

Duster- That's awesome that things are improving with breastfeeding. Good job hanging in there! :) Woohoo for healing! They aren't kidding when they say your sore for a while, it took a while for me to sit comfortably after getting my stitches.

Its def. nice to get outside, even if its not lon . The weather is semi nice here so I'm planning on walking to help shed the last bit of weight I put on. Anyone doing anything to get back in shape?
PS. I added pictures from seeing the easter bunny today. We took our first big trip to babies r us and the mall. :)

Beautiful babies ladies. I have been stalking this thread just not posting. I post a lot in my journal it's just hard to transfer stuff from there to here.

I am glad to hear that every one of us are finding our way as new mamas! Is everyone here breastfeeding? Duster how are things with the abscess now?

It's good we are able to get outside for some fresh air! Such a good time of year for our babes to be born, they get to soak up the most outside time before winter comes again this year :)

OH and I went for a walk too and it felt good, we were able to show off Zodi to the neighborhood. I am still really sore just on one side of my bum, the muscles seem very aggravated, everything else including the tears (which were so minor anyway) are pretty much healed.

Two days ago we took Zodi out with us for sushi. Zodi is so laid back and not fussy other than usual baby reasons to be fussy :haha:

Trying to take it easy but I am up and down a lot the days OH has to be in school or at work

Thanks for the well wishes, ladies! I am now done with my antibiotics! I went to see my surgeon on Monday, and she told me that I don't need to come back to see her unless my incision isn't healed up in one month. however, now I am thinking that Dorian and I have a case of thrush because my nipples are burning after feeding, and letdown burns too. Pedi said Dorian is negative but that just may mean I haven't yet passed it to him.

I have definitely noticed that Dorian is much more awake lately. He is much more aware of his surroundings, and is getting to be a lot of fun to have around! However, he will sleep up to feeding time and then scream bloody murder... not a fan of that. He is also the impossible child to burp, and has lately been refusing to sleep on his back. Hopefully we can get him to change this habit sometime soon.

I went through his drawer of clothes today and realized we have enough onesies in every size through 9 months to clothe a set of triplets, ha! So I have to back off buying things...

Daisy, it's nice that you are taking Zodi out a bit! I did that with Dorian yesterday- we went to the pedi, Target, my mom's house, and the chiropractor for his first adjustment! I'm starting to test the waters with breastfeeding in public, and it seems to be okay. I was wondering how he would do but he seems fine with it :)

D-man is up to 10lb, 12oz! My little chunker monker.

Hello!

I can't believe that Jayson will be 1 month old on Tues. He's doing better. We took him to pediatrician because he was sounding stuffy sometimes and wheezing in sleep and they said he has silent reflux so he's feeding fine and not spitting up much (just little bits now and then), but his breathing sometimes sounds wheezy or sound like he's trying to clear his throat and it freaks me out . . . doctor said it's all reflux symptoms and put him on Zantac. I'm reluctant to have him on meds already, but I know it's used a lot for infants and reflux is common so hoping it helps him out.

Jules: Such cute Easter photos!!! So fun! Good tip about having things set out and ready. I need to have more easy to eat snacks. We have a lot of frozen meals for dinners, but I find lunch is the meal I forget. I need to buy some easy sandwich fixings or Kind bars etc. I did download a great phone App since I usually have my phone nearby, but sometimes get stuck feeding on the couch and the remotes are out of reach. There's a Peel remote app that i can control the tv and smart tv (netflix, hulu, etc) and also the sound bar volume all with one hand and I just have to have my phone which I use to track breastfeeding anyway.

Daisy: Sorry I'm just catching up on everything so haven't seen your journal, but I am glad you and Zodi are getting outside. It's been nice here, too, and we've enjoyed a few walks and one day it was over 70 so I just let Jayson nap outside on my coat. Amazing you took baby out to eat already. Jayson is pretty chill and doesn't cry much, but I do find breastfeeding in public hard. Next week we'll try bottles so hubby can feed him, too, and then maybe more outings. Glad you aren't too sore and are healing.

Duster: So glad you are healing so well and Dorian is putting on weight well with the better feeding, too. Amazing you went through all that and hubby is already back at work. I'm in awe. You are a super mom! Over 10lb now is awesome! We're all gonna need to work on our biceps and forearms :)

xfading: I did try Jayson in different positions to see if working against gravity helped and he was still choking. Finally realized sideways tummy to tummy works best cause he can dribble excess out the side of his mouth. I go through a lot of cloth diapers now, but things are improving and I'm no longer engorged to the point of soreness. I have started pumping again and can't wait to try bottles next week so hubby can take some turns. Good luck on Monday when hubby goes back to work! Logan is such a cutie! Is he starting to fill out now? I got so excited when I first noticed Jayson putting some chub on :)

I feel really good and can't wait to exercise, but am waiting for the okay from doc at my 6 week postpartum appt which is March 31. I do walk a lot, but would love to really work out. The only pain I get now is this weird occasional shooting pain in the groin, but even that is getting less and less often and I think it was from the pushing. Bleeding is also subsiding. Still spotting. Anyone stop bleeding entirely yet? I'm wondering when the spotting will stop or if it goes on a long time.

Post more pics!!! Love all the cute babies.
Our kitten photo-bombed Jayson's 3 week photo.

Panda, those photos are absolutely adorable! I wish i had the patience to do those, but I'm keeping my hands full the way things are!

Thanks for the well wishes, ladies! I am now done with my antibiotics! My surgeon said that I don't need to see her again unless the incision isn't healed within the next two weeks- but it is pretty much closed up now!

He rolled from his tummy to back on Thursday!

I went through his drawer of clothes today and realized we have enough onesies in every size through 9 months to clothe a set of triplets, ha! So I have to back off buying things... I also had a childhood friend give me a bunch of clothes for him in a range of sizes. I'm pretty much set on clothes through 12 months!

Daisy, it's nice that you are taking Zodi out a bit! I did that with Dorian- we went to the pedi, Target, my mom's house, and the chiropractor for his first adjustment! I'm starting to test the waters with breastfeeding in public, and it seems to be okay. I was wondering how he would do but he seems fine with it :) The only time I wouldn't try that is during evening fussy time; feedings can go on for HOURS...

Anyone else have a smiler yet?

Ladies!!

I'm still alive!!!
So glad you all are doing well!!

My phone really does not like this site, and I havent been able to be on my computer lately.
If anyone wants to friend me on facebook, I'll be more than gladly accept you there, so much easier to use on the phone :winkwink:

Ben and I are doing well. My mom came from Brazil and left last Tuesday, so she stayed with me for 35 days and it was the best thing ever having her here. She helped me so much 24/7, even overnight feedings.
then a friend also came and left yesterday, so this is my very first week completely alone with him during the day, until hubby comes home from work.

My hubby started a new job in December, so he only got 3 days off which were the days we stayed at the hospital. And we are letting him sleep so he can be alert at his new job, he just got through the 3 month probation period.

Loved all your pics and it is incredible how time is passing by.

Ben is growing quickly. Still falling asleep while feeding, so sometimes he only eats for 15 minutes.

During the night it is still soooo unpredictable. Sometimes he does 3 and half hours stretches, sometimes he wakes up every 2 hours.
I noticed that after the feeding around 5am his tummy gives him problems and he has a very hard time passing gas and complains a lot while still trying to sleep.

When Logan was 2 weeks we did a little newborn photoshoot and we just got the pictures back yesterday, so I have to share. :)

Tomorrow he is going to be a month old... It is crazy.
On Tuesday we had a midwife appointment and he now weighs 9lbs 14oz and is 23 inches long. He's growing way too fast.

Lovely pictures of babies everyone! We've all been a little quiet, I stalk this thread a lot though, just don't have any hands to post. Or when I do usually I'm sleeping or eating or folding laundry.
Any other BF moms just STARVING all the time? In other news my bleeding has almost completely stopped and my bits feel almost back to normal :happydance:

Z is spending more time awake now, not just wanting to eat either. So OH and I take him for walks, car rides, tummy time, and we play guitar for him. He also is starting to smile. No real smiles yet but beginning smiles and they still melt our hearts.

OH is done with college for the quarter so he will be temporarily less stressed out and crazy :haha: with more time to spend with us. The weather is getting nicer and Z is actually awake more often that it can be fun taking him out and abouts.

Still not sleeping for beans though... Hope every one else keeps doing great!

Hi ladies,

Glad you and the February babies are doing well!

Pri and fading, I love love the pictures! I agree with you that it's hard to use this site on phone and that is what I mostly carry around during day with him. Anyone want to start a private Facebook group instead?

Daisy! I am so glad you said this! I am STARVING constantly. I eat all day and never feel satisfied and I'm actually already below my pre-pregnancy weight by 1lb (gained 30lb with pregnancy). The way I'm eating I'm afraid I will gain it all back instantly when breastfeeding slows down.

Jayson is becoming more interactive, too. Starting to smile at us once in a while instead of just with gas, haha, and making new noises. He also likes to play on his playmat and swats and kicks the different things. I can leave him on there to entertain himself for a good 10-20min which is awesome. He still has the reflux, but some days it's great and no symptoms and then he'll have a bad day again so I'm hopeful it gets better. My milk flow seems to be the biggest problem. On days when it's in control, he is fine :). On days i get engorged and it flows too fast he chokes and gets reflux :(.

He is HUGE. He was born 7lb 9oz 21in and was 11lb 9oz 22 1/4in at his 4 week appt. I was worried he was too big, but pediatrician said it's fine for him to gain that much since I'm EBF. I am hoping he's slowing down a bit, though. A bunch of his 0-3mo clothes are now on the edge of being too short on him with the diaper. Thank goodness my cousin gave us lots of handmedowns in different sizes!!!

I'd love to start a fb group, it would make staying in touch a lot easier.

Have any of you experienced a tongue or lip tie with baby? At first I didn't think much of a few of the difficulties with breast feeding Logan because it was all new to me, and he is gaining weight perfectly. But lately it is starting to hurt me a lot more. My nipples get so sensitive and I almost get a needle-like pain when he latches. He has also started to get extremely gassy and fussy from swallowing a lot of air. In the middle of feeding he will randomly pull away and let out a cry, or start almost choking on milk. I'm 99% sure that he has an upper lip tie which is causing the issues, but I haven't been able to talk to anybody about it yet. On the 5th is our last midwife appointment and I plan to bring it up, but I'm not sure if they can even "diagnose" it. I'm determined to not stop ebf though, no matter how much it hurts me.

Here is Logan at 1 month old today.
(I'm not sure why it keeps uploading sideways)

Ladies,

I created the group on FB.
February 2016 New Mommies

Duster (Megan) is already added.

It will be much easier to communicate through there.

How is everybody doing?

Can't believe Ben is already 7 weeks old.
He is REALLY giving us a hard time sleeping. He naps kind of ok during the day; 45 min max each time, but then he won't nap again after 4 or 5pm. We give him his bath around 6pm, after my hubby comes home from work, then we feed him but he wont fall asleep until 10, 11, sometimes even midnight!!!!!

But besides that, all good LOL

Hope you all can join the FB group soon!

Happy Friday!!!

Hi sorry I've been MIA.

Had my birthday on Easter which turned into a nice relaxing night in. Zodi seemed extra well-behaved that day ;) IL's came over with a nice vest for me and a sweet Moses basket for Zodi. MIL made sheets and mattress for a wicker basket she carried OH and his sister around when they were babies in Africa. Very cool and thoughtful.

We went to the beach this past weekend! Very nice to get away for a little while and LO was just a dream. He is growing up so fast; yesterday he smiled, twice! Definite lip curling and crinkly eyes :cloud9: :cloud9:

We have decided to stop going to GP for weight checks. We figure they cause me more stress than anything about my supply and his weight etc and that's not good. He is growing into his clothes, has plenty of wet nappies, is reaching milestones and is definitely more alert. So I don't need to be scared by docs with their "failure to thrive" words. He's gaining at his own pace. And WIC weighs him at every appointment each month, that's enough for me and OH

Oh and I don't have Facebook
