Do you think it's ok to have a four year old in a pram

We are at my mums and sometimes walk in to town which is an hour there and an hour back. She gets tired so I've sometimes let her go in a buggy, but a comment has made me think she's a bit old..

I wouldn't do it all the time but by the time we are in town she's ready for a rest ?

You know, to the general question "is 4 too old for a buggy?" I'd say "yes". BUT an hour each way is a long walk for a 4 year old, never mind the shopping in the middle. So in this case I'd use a buggy too.

We still use it when we go to the mall as we stay for hours there, whenever we go out & we know there is loads of walking, the buggy comes with us. I honestly dont care what others think, they are not the ones who will end up carrying an 18 Kgs tired kid.

Thanks. I think the same, she's a small four yr old and does get tired. Wish I didn't care what others think :) x

I think it's up to the discretion of the parent and the child. LO hasn't used her stroller in ages but we would've stopped using it after 3. :flow:

Also she's just 4, looks more like three :)

Just feel bad for her, I'm tired after walking so she must be when we get home x

I think you have to do what works and if your LO is tired then who cares what anyone else thinks.

In my experience age doesn't matter, it's all about ability and if you feel the walking you are doing is too much for your child is too much then do whatever suits your child.

Don't let other people's opinions cloud your parenting decisions

We still let our 4 year old into the pram when we are out walking for hours. Keep in mind that their legs are still very short - so 3 hours of walking for us would really amount to 6 hours of walking (I'm rounding here lol) for them.

Do what makes sense for you and LO hun- regardless. 4 may be on the "older" side- but not too old in my mind- depending on the situation. My friends LO is 3.5 and when they go on walks she takes the stroller (unless it's a casual stroll- then she let's her LO ride her push scooter)-- it's easier for her and LO. She always stops at the park or let's LO out to run here and there-- but for longer walks where Mom wants some excercise- yes, a stroller is a for sure must ;) Or, like in your situation where it's an hour-- it's not gonna hurt to have it along in case. Shoot, it's a great place to store your items and hold your coffee drink-- I think I'll really miss mine when LO is done using them. :haha:

Who cares?
Remember most of the families you see at the shops probably got there by car, hence few 4 yo in buggies.

Im 28 and if I were presented with a stroller id jump at the chance to be pushed! Do what ever you want!

Ours does, and I don't need to explain why to anyone. Theres always one to judge though!

It depends on the circumstance. Generally ds walks but if I'm taking them to the dr by myself (on a busy road) then yes he is in a stroller. I don't care what people say. They would have something to say if I had him on a harness too but eventually he would get tired and I'd end up carring him. I think his stroller holds 50lbs...he is only 35. I usually avoid taking them to the dr. If we go places like the zoo, we rent one as he can stretch out in it.

I'll probably be the mom with the 'old' kid in a stroller. We have to travel next to busy roads to get to the nice roads to walk on, we go fast and I want him strapped in safely and unable to bolt. I'd use a stroller for very long walks and long trips shopping as well. What's the point in making a kid walk until they're miserable and tired? An hour (each way if I understand properly?) is a long walk for a lot of adults. If you feel uncomfortable about other people's opinions, have you considered trading in for a wagon? I think most people don't bat an eye about an older kid in a wagon. It's just the stroller itself that gets the stigma.

I would do the same - walk into the city is 40 minutes so I will be doing the same for Jack! Emma stands on the board but would never be able to cope with the walk!

Nope not at all - sometimes when we are on days out DD will go in DS umbrella stroller - she did on Saturday when we were out for the day DS wanted to walk and DD wanted a snack.

One of her school friends who was 4 in August only just stopped using it

crap i get people telling me to let my DD walk shes 18 months thanks. No way in hell 18 months is too old for a stroller. For quick trips yes 4 is old for long trips nope.

I always thought it was too old but we went to London for the day in the summer and Caitlyn hurt herself so at 5 years old I chucked her in Olivers buggy and him in the carrier lol (bad mum) x
