So now that my LO is 3 months old, people have been telling me that I can mush up some banana and feed it to her. Others have suggested giving her a few teaspoons of chamomile tea as it is supposed to be good for the tummy. I thought until 6 months babies were only supposed to have formula/breastmilk. I'm wondering if any mommies have given their LO's anything else besides formula/breastmilk at 3 months? And if not, when did you start and what did you give them?

No... I waited until 6 months with ds1, I will do the same for ds2.

I don't think it's really a good idea.

We started with banana, apple, rice cereal, some veggies... we waited 2 days between introduction of new foods so we could watch for tummy upset or allergies.

We started on solids at 4 months but that has just been rice and oatmeal cereal. My Doctor said to introduce grains, then veggies, then fruit.

No, nothing till 5 and a half months and started with fruit and veg. Baby's dont need grains till closer to 1 as the ones containing gluten are harder to digest.

Recommendation is anywhere between 4 and 6 months here. The only time I've of heard of giving anything to younger babies is rice to help with reflux. I was told I could give my daughter a little rice before her bottles starting at 2 months, but I never did and chose to go a different route instead. There's not much point giving a 3 month old food as they can't even digest it yet. Even at almost 7 months, much of what my daughter puts in tends to come right back out

We did this. I don't think it's a good idea either. 6 months is the recommendation right now, but that wasn't always the case. My MIL gave rice cereal to one of her kids at 6 weeks!!

6 months here. I gave her regular food, avoiding only honey, salty things, nuts (choking hazard), and high fibre foods.

No solids until 17 weeks (4 months) earliest. Even then I don't think if suggest chamomile tea ;)

We started weaning at 18 and half weeks due to reflux. Started with fruit etc.

Guidelines say 6m and definitely not before 17w. I started between 4&1/2 and 5m with my other 3. Not started with jake yet.

No definitely not for such a young baby.

Fruits are an ideal first food, but not until around 6 months

17 weeks is the earliest they should have anything, even then I wouldn't start solids unless I was medically advised to do so. We started just before 6 months as per weaning guidelines.

Guidelines by LLL is

Around the middle of the first year. Able to sit unassisted in the chair, and have the co-ordination to see, pick up and put food in their own mouth.

NHS says

Exclusive BF/FF until 6 months.

I'd take that to mean 5-7 months depending on the baby's ability to do those things. I'd start with vegetables rather than fruit personally but that's purely my choice because fruits may give a preference to sweetness.

This is what we did. He didn't really even start putting things in his mouth until about 6.5 months. He just played with food until then, still plays a lot. Makes mealtime fun :)

If there is no medical need to wean before six months, it's not recommended. The digestive system isn't fully matured or ready for food until 4-6m (4m at a push), so if you have a choice, you should wait.

Once you do start weaning, they recommend bland foods first, like mashed potato, baby rice etc. We started with baby rice, which they hated, so we opted for baby porridge, apple puree, carrot, sweet potato, pear, mashed banana... Whatever your baby likes best TBH; but no wheat before 6m, certainly.

I didn't give anything but breastmilk until 6 months with mine and then did baby led weaning.

Agree with the others. Don't know who's telling you that but even back in the day it was four mths old. It's 6 mths now. And I def would not give camomile tea! I'd start with veggies too as they aren't as sweet. We started with carrot then sweet potato then butternut squash. Like others have said try single veggies for two to three days if that's ok
Introduce another then you can start mixing veggies after a while. Mushed up banana is a good one but not for just yet
