This is maybe a thread for Santa's Grotto, but i thought, with us all having babies around the same age by xmas, it would prob be best to ask here.....

Is anyone planning on NOT getting LO anything for xmas? I'm no scrooge, in fact i am entirely the opposite, but she wont even be 4 months old, i will maybe buy her a bit of something, but i feel i'd be mad to splurge on a tiny baby!?!?

I dunno, am i a big meanie?
:flower:

I feel the same as you! I will defo be getting her something(s) because I LOVE xmas and it will be her 1st!! But at the same time, she'll be 2 months old & what is there to buy for a baby of that age!? I'll probably just get her clothes! I know my whole family are going to spoil her tho! Especially OH's family as she's the first grandchild/neice/baby in 23yrs lol! x

I'm due in November and we are definitely going to do a little Christmas shopping for him.

i have actually already finished christmas shopping for my LO. he has close to 40 presents but thats only because i get so excited at christmas and even though he wont remember it i will.

the things i bought havent really been expensive though, most are rattles and teethers that you get from the pound shop and go up to 24 months so will last him ages!!

i think i have spent about £130 total for him for christmas and that includes his playnest gym we got him

i'd like to get him a first christmas keepsake, but not really anything else! i'm dreading his grandparents buying him loads of shit that i will have to make room for :haha: xx

i have decided to go the 'keep sake' route and bought her a snow globe from past times, a musical one, so she can enjoy that instantly but that in years to come she can still have as her first christmas present.

nothing from us either! we will have a little 2 month old- or maybe even 6 week old at christmas time. Possibly a stocking with a few baby toys but nothing big from santa or us! however i can promise that my parents will send tons of things! they sent things for DD the year i was pregnant! and her first christmas was overkill

ooooh i like these keepsake idea's girls  didn't think about those!! x

yes, i will be getting him presents, but as the op said, i won't be going mad. there is very little a baby that age will need, so it does seem silly to spend a load of money. i'm much more excited about seeing how he reacts to the sparkly decorations and spending time together as a family. i like the idea of some kind of keep-sake, though.

I think i may get them something that will be there in the future like a nice teddy bear or something.
I will probably just splurge on an expensive teddy each and when they are older they will always have their first teddy :)
They will only be a month at christmas so there isnt really anything else i could buy them. I know our familys will go overboard though aha

I also love the antique type teddys so until they are old enough to appreciate it i will atleast :p

Me and hubby aren't going to buy him random things throughout the year and because his birthday and christmas will ultimately not be that far apart we're just getting him things to help him learn that will do up until his first birthday. What he gets for christmas wont nesc be useful at christmas but will do him throughout his first year of life.

We are going to have a small budget and I will buy some things and OH will buy some things. That way we open the ones the other has bought and we get a little surprise too as LO won't care what's going on. I've made sure it's a small budget so OH can't buy her a laptop or something else he wants lol

I know my family will spoil her rotten too, thats the thing.... its not like she wont get anything! I think i may do as some have suggested above and get her some keepsakes. just a couple.
For DS's 1st xmas, it wasn't even an option as i was soooo poor, all i could afford to get him was a teddy from the teddy making factory (the ones where you pick them a heart and have it placed inside. and that still sits on his bed now and he's 6! :). and he didn't miss out that xmas, he got that much off everyone else, what i got him kinda paled into insignificance!

ooooh, i like this idea alot!!!! think i may suggest this to OH!!

yep me to... our LO will only be 4 weeks old, if that if she is late....i like the idea of getting something for keepsake!! especially the snowglobe idea :)
xxxx

Finn'll only be about a month at Christmas. We're planning on getting him a really nice teddy bear and an exersaucer. My grandmother will paint him a "Baby's First Christmas" ornament and he'll probably get some other toys from grandparents.

I'm hoping no one goes too overboard!

We will get her things but I agree there's no reason to go overboard for a baby that will be 8 weeks old. I love buying Christmas presents so I'm sure I'll buy a few but nothing expensive or anything.

We might buy something but not much.

I've suggested to the hubby we do a little stocking each for the baby which the other opens so it will be a surprise for one of us and our son will have pressies on the day.

your not a meanie at all :) being practical and realistic never hurt anyone, our LO's will be too small and not really have the mental capability of remembering details of their first christmas when young . DH and I are not going to buy christmas gifts for our LO untill he's at least a year old, granted the grandparents I'm sure are going to splurge enough lol, but nothing wrong with just decorating the tree and having an old fashioned close cuddly christmas instead untill LO is older. JMO:hugs:
