getting new baby xmas presents?

I bought for my son when he was 4 months old, just a few little toys and a stocking, he had no clue what was going on. I didnt plan on buying anything for this baby as he might only be a few weeks old but then I realized my son (who is 7) will wonder why santa didn't bring his baby brother anything :s So I will probably wrap a few small things up but otherwise I wouldnt have bothered

Our daughter (oooh still can't get used to saying that!!) will be 6 wks old, but I already have a xmas list (planning on getting all the xmas shopping done before she arrives!) I'm going to get her toys for when she's older like 6mths-1yr old - then at least she'll have pressies on xmas day, and that she can see play with as she gets older throughout the year.

So I'm going to get her a cloth dolly, some learning toys etc. Will also pinch some ideas from this thread too! So thanks guys.

When my son was born (17th November) we decided he didn't need anything for christmas so what we did was my OH and myself bought a little present each for him and then we opened each others, so it was surprise!

I think we're planning on just getting her a few toys for when shes abit older, and i love the keepsake idea. I suspect our family will go abit mad though :/
xxx

Our LO will be 3 months, I plan on getting a cot mobile as he'll be going in his cot around that time anyways so can use that as a present. Have a play mat that I bought from the asda event might give him that as a Xmas present also. Might get some rattles and teethers. I have a daughter so best to say they are from Santa as shell be wondering why he doesn't have anything.

I will be buying Jaxon christmas presents. There are a few outfits at Baby Gap that I love and cant justify buying right now, but for Christmas I can buy it b/c its a present. I also plan on getting him a few small toys.

I love buying Christmas gifts though, last year I spent the same amount on my unborn nephew has I did on all my other neices and nephews!

I've already started my xmas shopping for the other kids so baby has some
presents already...like rattles/soft toys/playgym/cot & pram toys/light up noisy things etc :D

We'll prob just get some clothes and toys etc for when s/he is a bit older :D

My friends LO was around 12 wks too on his first xmas and 14months by his second she didn't get him "proper" xmas presents till his 3rd Xmas!!

She said at 12wks he wouldn't know the difference and on his 2nd for financial reasons she couldn't afford presents, but got him a few things to open and knew grandparents would be getting him some too. Then on his 3rd when he knew what xmas was (so he would've been 2yrs old) she bought him presents!!

I will probably say I won't then see something like an outfit or a toy and won't have the will power to resist i'm definately not going mad though not for a 12wk old baby!

Aww that's a nice idea. Nice way to get the Daddy involved with buying too.

we'll probably just get a couple of bits - I like the idea of something that will be kept rather than shorter term items like clothes & toys.
No doubt baby will get plenty of that sort of thing from family, so it'd be nice to get something special from us.

We arent getting Madison much...maybe a couple stroller toys and an outfit or 2 but besides that if we get her anything it will be things she needs...diapers, wipes etc. Have told our families the same!

i wont be going over board on the baby come xmas as he will only be about 12 weeks old, some rattles teethers and those fabric books that crinkle etc, oh and most prob something 2 put on his cot musical, i already have a cot mobile but another wont hurt! i already have baby walkers and play gyms given 2 me from family and friends and they are like new, i have a 4 year old daughter so it will be more exciting for her than the baby Xx

i am due at the end of october and me and Oh have decided that we are only going to get bubz a few outfits and a couple of teddies, we can get quite a few more for hi next year when he will be older and can understand a bit more xx

since i have 2 older boys and this baby is due at the end of october, i am not fretting over christmas presents for the baby. of course there will be a few little somethings. but i won't be getting any kind of maternity leave or financial help at all. and i imagine will be in the middle of trying to play catch up from having to take off the month or so to have the baby. my mom already said she wanted to get the nice big expensive play mat gym thing. which helps because i was trying to get one purchased before the baby gets here.

I will be getting my baby something for later on in the year.. 6+month toys as he will have to wait til Nov for his bday. Being a xmas baby myself, i know how horrible it is to have nothing new to play with throughout the year!

We plan on getting LO the Fisher Price 1-2-3 musical gym. It starts off as a mat for tummy time and then goes up in stages to match the baby's development. It's £40 so not too bad for what it is. I know baby won't be aware of Christmas but I just really want to get him something that I can write a tag from "Mummy and Daddy" (he's our first baby).

When my kids were tiny babie's we didn't spoil them at xmas, the things we did buy were things they really needed, like clothes, shoes and just a few toys and books, but to be honest the family buy more than enough to compensate.
I don't think you're being a scrooge by not splurging and buying loads, they won't remember or appreciate any of it! If family do ask what they can buy though, have a wee list handy of things you need, it certainly helps to stock up if anyone is offering gifts!
Even on Boo's first birthday we didn't get her too much, and told family not to splash out either.

My baby will be only 4 or even possibly 2 weeks old at Christmas so we are having a few small items wrapped up so we have the whole first Christmas experience but this will be an outfit and maybe small toy. We also want to get a special Christmas tree ornament to celebrate but that will be it. (We both love Christmas though and even our 5 dogs and cats have wrapped gifts under the tree!! :haha:)

I know the family will buy baby loads of things and I don't want to stop them from doing that if they want to as they are all really excited about the baby as the next youngest child in the family will be 12 in November! I'm hoping that this will mostly be clothes once we know whether its a boy or girl though as an incredibly generous friend of my DH has given us a loads of toys including playmats and walkers etc as their children have outgrown them so the once empty nursery is packed to the rafters at the moment!

That said though my MIL is insisting on buying a rocking horse for our 4 (or 2!) week old baby as a Christmas present
