Giving up smoking SUPPORT!!

Congrats Mustang! Way to go! I have cut back to 4-5 a day from a whole pack, but Im having trouble kicking those last few :( I think it's because hubby still wants to smoke and has no plans on quitting so I know there will be a supply there when I hit a tough spot. I'm ordering my baby book tomorrow probably though and I'm hoping I can just dive into my book when I start to get a bad craving and use that to deter myself! :)

just want to say good luck girls ! :hugs:
you can do it, no matter how hard it is !
please ignore ANY negative comments, just pretend like they arent there, as its not worth getting in to a fight about, you know how to handle it YOUR way :hugs:
i quit when i was 6 weeks pregnant, and havent touched one since! its bloody hard, but i know you can do it if you really want to

well done Mustangirl!
And Tonka...good luck sweetie...you CAN do it!! Yes its hard...but once you are a few days in it wont seem so bad! The thought of smoking now makes me sick....MS has helped with that one!!! And i was a minimum on 20 a day before!! I wish you all the best of luck. If anyone is struggling come on here and talk to us...we are here to help you...dont feel guilty...we are all human and make mistakes!

well done Tiger

Missalissa...when i decided i had to give up i tried cutting down....and it would work for a few days....then would creep back up again. I had to quit totally...im an all or nothing kind of person!! So i decided to use patches... i used them for the 1st few days and decided after that to try without and see how it went.. i had a patch in my pocket incase i freaked out lol. But i didnt even need it!! STRANGE!!! I have never found quitting so easy before!! I felt so guilty when i was smoking though. It took 13 long years for me to get pregnant, and i was sooo scared i would MC and i knew if i did i would never be able to forguve myself... i dont know if it might take another 13yrs to get pregnant! So i think this was my biggest motivation. Can you try NRT? Just to get you by the first week or so. I would ask your dh to quit too which will make it alot easier for you! And when you feel a craving...just remember you are stronger than it...and tell yourself you arent going to let a stupid cancer stick tell you how to live your life!! Its sooo liberating to be free of them! Try and distract yourself when you feel the urge coming on. You will be so proud of yourself...and then you can tell your LO when they are older that they helped save Mummies life! Good luck...you can do it!!

Well ladies today is the first day without a fag in 15 years! Have my gum and losenges and am doing OK but can't stop thinking about cigs! I am determined to do this, thinking about my little one xx

its so hard but so worth it - hubby came home the other night and told me how proud he was of me 9cause i just stopped when i got my bfp - threw them out after 20 a day habit) and hearing that made me so pleased....also, the midwife was well chuffed :) you can do it girls!whenever i wnt one i just remember why i cant...

Yes we can do, all you gotta do is think about the little baby growing inside of you. I'm having my first scan later and I'm gonna stick the photo on my PC so each time I think about having a ciggy I just look at that :)

Missalissa86 - I can imagine how hard that is with your partner smoking still, what a nightmare for you. Luckliy my partner has gone cold turkey with me, he never really liked it anyway so him stopping is helping me.

Unfortuanetly My DH already told me he has no plans on quitting and has no faith in my ability to quit. I don't think he means to be such a jerk about it, he is just brutally honest about his thoughts and opinions. Today was supposed to be day 1 smoke free but a couple plubers were outside my window at the crack of dawn this morning jackhammering the ground and woke me up (adding a huge headache on top of it). I went out to say something and ended up bumming a cig :( I wanna go ahead and just go cold turkey but I heard that if you do it that way it's better to pick a date ahead of time, what do you girls think about that?

i went cold turkey...i had a cigarett, POAS, got my BFP then threw out my pack :) never done it cold turkey before, thought i would fail but...i dunno its just different this time.

I did a week of patches and then just... stopped. I carried them with me as a sort of security blanket but haven't used them since, that was almost a month ago. No ciggies for 27days and apparently I've saved £125.54, I think that may be a bit more than reality, but that's what my phone is telling me.

You can do it Missalissa, really you can. Just think, less wrinkles hm? My mum has just stopped, no cigs for 4 days, on the phone last night she was pretty scary but holding strong (mostly). She's forced my sister and step-dad to smoke outside, in the rain though hahaha.

Good luck hun, think of all the advantages! I know it's like losing your best friend, but a friend who hurts you and your family isn't that good as a friend after all. xxxx

You're right Blizzard! I CAN do it! I kind of want to Google images of a smokers lungs and placenta, maybe seeing that will scare the addiction out of me lol. I'm gonna talk to hubby again too and give him one more plead to quit with me. I'm not sure how I'll hold up with him still smoking!

Make him stand in the rain for the good of the baby ;). Yes you CAN do it! Of course you can. Doesn't mean it's easy, but you will be so proud of yourself! xx

Hi guys. Have only had three today and have decided to enlist the Midwife whenever she contacts me. My problem is that I like smoking. I know I have to give it up but am not naturally in the right "mind set". Will need NRT I think :( Am not giving up on giving up tho. This was just the battle not the whole war!!

Luckily we smoke outside all the time, and we don't smoke in the car. But when I watch him walk outside and I know what he is going out there for, it's so easy for me to break down and ask him for one :( I'm so frustrated with myself! But I've done it before so I know I can do it again, I just have to get my feet off the ground lol. What is NRT?

Sorry Nicotine replacement therapy just patches, gum etc etc.

They really helped e, even though I only used them for a week, I think they more helped break the actual hand to mouth thing. xxx

I have a confession to make, a few days ago I caved and had half a cigarette

On the up side, I'm now two days without a cigarette and not having any cravings at all!

How's everyone else doing?

I quit a couple weeks after having Mirena out- I was just ready. I wasn't ready all the other times I tried. I've now been smoke-free for 3 months and it's amazing how much better I feel, not to mention how much better I could run! You girls can do it! Lots of luck!

I quit on August 2nd & apart from the day I had my mc (5th Aug - I had one then) I have not picked one up since, the OH has cut right down too & does not smoke at home at all, he does though still smoke at work, he says that he will quit entirely now. I used the high strength patches & the nicquitin mini lozenges, I am hoping to stop all nrt by the end of November.

Good luck ladies - it is hard but so worth it
