:( have i harmed my unborn baby? :(

Google would say not to drink water as well....... What do you think people in other countries... They eat sushi and everything else.... I wouldnt worry..

Its funny that you would say this because I have a friend who just immigrated from Russia and told me that there the doctors actually tell you not to drink more than a cup of tea or water a day in order to prevent water weight!! Isnt that insane lol:wacko:

Don't worry about it and don't Google pregnancy questions, save them for your doctor or midwife. I eat stuff like that all the time and my baby is doing great, he/she is a real wriggler and all growth measurements are well within normal. I went camping last week and we were eating pepperoni and barbeque burgers and steaks all week long.

Honestly, I think they put way more pressure on what we can and cannot eat. The majority of the time, in moderation most food is ok. And if you slip up here and there, it's very unlikely that you will harm the baby. There are risks with certain foods that are possible but not definite when you eat them, so it's best to be cautious. But, I wouldn't worry about your little splurge of the day. I was told to avoid predatory fish, soft cheeses, raw eggs and undercooked meats, excess caffeine and cold deli meats unless heated to steaming. Otherwise, was told I can eat what I want pretty much.

I'm an American living in Germany for the first time and I loveee Doners (we dont have them in america!) and eat them probably atleast once a week. It's probably the cheese in it - I think it's made with feta but because of the language barrier I honestly have no idea what is in them, they are just so delicious. I'm sure your baby is completely fine hun.

is this real? you dont really think your baby will die cos you ate a bit of kebab do you? come off it lol

all this talk of mcdonalds... For nearly 22 weeks I have avoided mcflurries even though i have craved them so bad due to the low risk of listeria, but I saw yesterday they are doing wispa gold ones!! I'm going to cave in today and have one... Or two :haha:

Dont worry hun..the worst that can happen is u get food posioning.

The thing with McDonald's shakes is because the mixture that makes them isn't pasterised... However, the machines do a daily pasterisation thing that keeps the milkshakes safe.
I've had a few, not as many as i did pre-preg, and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them.
I've been avoiding the Mcflurrys though, even though it's the same story as the milkshake... but now wispa's back i might cave in!!

And I've had doner kebabs (craved them for a little bit) and everything's fine :D don't worry about it hun!

I've had doner kebabs, this pregnancy and last. never ever heard it wasnt allowed

I've never heard or been told doner kebabs are unsafe, until recently I had one once a week due to cravings and I'm fine, baby is fine!

I've eaten liquid yolks a couple of times and brie once. I've probably eaten other things that weren't safe too without realizing it. Me and the OH have been traveling quite a lot since I've been pregnant and since I'm vegetarian (and a lot of cheese isn't) finding food I can eat is tricky enough already! I've just tried to avoid the obvious things and not get too stressed about the little things.

I am definitely planning a cheese and wine party for when I can finally indulge again. :)

Honestly, don't worry yourself. The chances that you would pick up anything from a quarter of a doner kebab are so incredibly small that they're not worth considering. If you walked home afterwards and crossed a couple of streets, you probably ran a greater risk of being hit by a car.

Which is not to say you should not cross streets. Just that pregnant women spend a huge amount of time worrying about things that are actually very low-risk, and barely consider the risks that we take every day in our normal lives that are actually more likely to cause us harm, like walking up flights of stairs, getting in cars, tripping over power cords, forgetting about electrical appliances that are on, and so forth.

I hope you all don't mind me popping over from 1st tri, as I saw this when I was scrolling on through. I just wanted to say doner kebabs should be totally fine (unless it's from some really dodgy place that doesn't cook their meat properly - but if it's cooked, it's fine or at least as fine as it always is). Sushi from most places is also totally fine. I'm not sure about in the UK (as sadly there are no sushi places way out in the country where we live) but in the U.S. all the raw fish has to be flash frozen, which kills the bacteria/parasites that might be in it. I'd imagine that's true here as well. I mean, realistically, the types of fish used in sushi aren't exactly caught in the English Channel, so they would have to be frozen for transit from wherever they originated. It would probably only be in a really random place in Japan that gets their fish literally off the boat and to the sushi chef that doesn't freeze it. If you're eating it here, it's fine. I plan to have some when I'm in the U.S. next week.

Also, many of the cheeses they say not to eat are also fine if you prepare them properly or buy them pasteurized. You can have any of them if they're cooked - think baked brie and cranberries or goat's cheese tart, totally fine, it's on the NHS website. Also, you can find brie and camembert that are pasteurized and these are fine to eat as well. I didn't know this until recently either, but apparently President brand (if you're in the UK, it's the most common one besides the store's own brand) is totally safe because it's pasteurized. So despite all the dire warnings, there are plenty of things you can safely eat when pregnant!

I am struggling to resist the wisp gold mcflurry too!! :)

Hoorah for someone else who just reads and remembers what the NHS website says about foods! I had baked camembert the other day and it was fab :D I've looked all this up quite carefully for my OH, because he does quite a lot of the cooking, but has less time/inclination to check all this stuff, having a more full-time job than I do.

Different foods will be important for different people, (eg I hardly ever eat sushi anyway), but it's still a good idea to know that it's freezing the fish in sushi that makes it safe, rather than it being fresh.

If pregnant women avoided everything they said we should, we'd all have to sit in one spot, chewing on (well washed) carrot sticks! It's all a bit much I think. Complete scaremongering all the time! There's those women who don't know they are pregnant and carry on drinking smoking, eating kebabs and babies are perfectly fine! They human race survived long before all these warnings came about. They change as often as the wind too!

Tho to be fair... Don't know why anyone would want to eat a donner kebab! Did u know "what's in a donner kebab?" is the ONLY question Google cannot answer? :haha:

my son wanted some of mine the other week i told him he best not cos its made from dogs and horses (hes five) he believed me bless him though in hindsight it could have been! lmao

Really? I have been having one atleast once a week, sometimes twice!

I wouldn't worry. My brother brought a dessert over the other night and didn't tell me it contained raw egg yolk in it! He told me when I had eaten half a bowl!! I freaked out at first but everything turned out fine
