help me kick the diet pepsi habit

Oh is terrible with coke (full fat), apart from when he's at work where he drinks orange squash and hot chocolate all he drinks is coke. It really worries me sometimes as he won't drink anything else apart from the odd glass of milk. I've told him he should cut down but he doesn't listen!

I used to be similar to my oh pre pregnancy but now I only have one, sometimes two glasses a day and some days I don't have any. I drink flavoured water instead. I love coke but I know it's not good for me and I can't have too much caffiene anyway due to breastfeeding so that's also my motivation for not drinking it excessively.

I agree with the pp who mentioned cutting down gradually, I'd imagine your body will go into some sort of shock/withdrawal due to the sudden drop in caffiene and sugar if you went cold turkey. Cutting down gradually will mean your body has time to adjust so the withdrawek effects will be lessened, and it will probably be easier on you mentally too providing you stick to it.

I drink so much Diet Pepsi, it's crazy. I swear I can feel the aspartame killing my brain cells...

I should stop, or at least cut down, but it's so good. :(

I used to drink 6ish cans of normal coke a day... Honestly it was killing me haha. The caffeine, the sugar!

When I was pregnant, I did some research at 5 weeks gone when I was told I was possibly miscarrying.. It was a hell of a reason to change my diet. I stopped drinking coke for 6 months, until I was told I wasn't putting on enough weight and that my LO was small, that i obviously wasn't eating enough. (Seriously?) I had no appetite at all, so I made up my calorie deficit by drinking coke, which isn't good :/ ! I felt awful for it, even though my midwife assured me I had to drink 10+ cans a day for the caffeine to be an issue. If I'd not drank so much coke, I would have lost so much weight!

but this meant come january when my son was born, I was hooked! I started dieting and realised how many calories coke had in it. My first step was changing to diet drinks... Dr Pepper Zero was my favourite. Haha. Then after this I started simply not buying the fizzy drinks, I'd only go down the dilute juice aisle. (Squash). I started drinking No added sugar squash.. and honestly it tasted just as nice :D I have coke every now and then now, but I never buy it in. If im at a meal I'll have a drink of it.. but thats it. I can't have it in the house and not drink it :/ ! x

I started taking a new medication and now the thought of drinking pepsi max makes me feel ill. I only drink squash now. Obviously that's not really an option for you but I would get lots of things to substitute it in, like nice cordials, squashes and fruit juices so you've got options. Being dehydrated will make any withdrawal symptoms so much worse!

I'd go down the fruit juice and carbonated water route, or no added sugar and fizzy water. For me it was the fizz, but now I can go a day without one, I still get the odd coke but nowhere near as much as I used to. It is hard. I find chocolate my weakness.
