Hip Babies / Hip Dysplasia

she is nearly 8 months, she cant roll at all but when she is on the floor she slides around on her back - she is just a dare devil and wants to go places so if you are sat with her on your knee she lunges herself forward all the time - you have to hold on to the back of her cast to stop her falling:dohh:

Oh and she is always taking off her nappy (the one on the outside) as well

aw we have to grap Ellie too she jumps about on our kneee all the time, we dont put a nappy on the outside xx

Well i dont think we will bother soon either cause it doesnt stay there!!!! Im glad to hear that ellie jumps about too - when we were waiting to go into theatre today there where 3 other babies having their cast changed and they were sitting nicely or lying quietly in their buggy and emma was squealing at toys whilst trying to fling herself off my knee!!!

Ellie was one of 3 last time and bloody last to theatre but she was happy playing on our knee with toys or lying in the hospital cot watching th personal over head tv  and all the rest were screaming for food lol xx

Hi ladies. I don't post here often but always read up on how everyone is doing. I need to vent a little today and know you will all understand. It really makes me upset when people blow off hip dysplasia because "it is treatable and you will forget LO ever had it" or "I know someone who knows someone who had a friend whose baby had it and they are just fine now!" Seriously, I want to tell them it can be very serious and who wouldn't think it was a big deal to see their little baby in a harness or cast?! Who wouldn't be upset that they cannot wear all the cute outfits that were bought for them? Or that diaper changes become harder, holding the baby is harder, fitting them into bouncies and swings is harder, etc. I still get sad looking at all the little outfits he has gotten but could never wear and are now out grown. Also, I am sad thinking about the bumbo and jumperoo he will never be allowed to use. And the fact that I had to go to doctor's appointments 5 days after major abdominal surgery (c-section) instead of at home cuddling with my new baby. Also, not knowing if/when the condition will be fixed and not knowing if it will reoccur at some point in the future. I am scared that LO will not roll over, crawl, or walk on time. I am scared to have another baby thinking they may have hip dysplasia. This has not been easy and I think I have been so busy up until this point that I haven't really thought about all of this. And something I read earlier today made me realize how not serious people treat it!!

Anyway, thanks for listening and sorry to be such a downer!!!

Deeni, I know exactly what you mean. I always agree with people who day it's treatable and what not, but it breaks my heart that my DD is 15 months and can't crawl, let alone walk. I see all her peers and some days it makes me want to cry. And then to think that she could still need more surgeries, maybe multiple surgeries... but for the general public I am positive and optimistic. and when they ask how we change her nappy, I let the reality sink in. it is definitely not easy.

Deeni, I too know what you mean, I get fed up with people saying 'but at least it's treatable', and 'oh, only 12 weeks in a cast! That's nothing!' SHUT UP - YOU TRY IT!!!

So, any last minute advice before Sophies closed reduction tomorrow? The bag is packed, I have every single size nappy available, tonnes of vests and rompers in various sizes and ready mixed formula to make life easier on ward.

Just wanted to say good luck to you and your LO MrsWatson!

aw I know what you mean I get comments like oh well least there treating it now, its only for 6 month, eh hello its bloody heartbreaking and you have no f**king idea how hard it is so shut up and move on.

It is serious too and I dont think that alot of people know that, the problem we have is that Ellies hip hasnt actually developed properly therefore there is no socket for tha ball to go into and it may also be hemihypertrophy, so we just need to weight and see

Yeah i know exactly what you mean - i think people dont think they just say what they think is right!

Good luck mrswatson - le us know how you get on - emma was vvv grumpy when she came out of the anethestic - but it soon pasted xxx

Hey you how did it go??? Hope is all ok

so a few after op tips of mine,
cry if you want to let it ALL out, you WILL feel a little better

RELAX, if you are relaxed its so much easier, like whe changing nappies etc I was always stressing now and thats when I had leaky poo accidents now I just think if its going to happen then it will, no point stressing

try not to be more worried about holding and cuddling the little one, I always thought if I moved her the wrong way then it would hurt her legs or damage the hip, :dohh: thats the whole point of he cast to keep them in place lol

and come and speak if you need us xxx

So, my little Sophie had her closed reduction today, she has been such a brave girl! She woke up from the anesthetic very traumaised, we just couldn't settle her evetually she went to sleep, and woke up an hour later smiling away! She's eaten well, and has gone to bed without a fuss, we heard her singing herself to sleep over the montor!

Her spica is set very wide, and we are going to have to make some modifications to her buggy, a cushion just isn't enough.

I've changed her nappy a few times - including a dirty one, and it isn't as bad as I though it would be.

Hoping for a quiet night and an even happier little girl in the morning.

Arrh bless her, i hope she slept last night and is still happy this morning, how are you feeling?? hope you are ok :hugs:

We are having to use blankets now instead of cushions - we are so stupid we went to get her cast changed and never thought that she would not fit into stuff the same as before :dohh: had great trouble trying to get her comfy in the car seat - but you will get it all sussed in a few days x

we are lucky enough to have been given a carseat from the hospital and it has no side at all so no problem with fitting Ellie in that and also caught her standing, yes standing up in her cot yest!!!! xx
