Home Birthers & Hopefuls!

Good luck nightkd!! So exciting! :happydance: Lots of lucky labor dust coming your way :dust:

ooo, I just realized... if you have your baby today, your LO will have the same birthday as my LO. And what a great Father's Day present for your hubby!

Thank you :) I think DH would have liked a bit of a lie in today too  but OH WELL! Contractions are lasting over a minute now...having quite a bit of pelvic pain, but the contractions are kind of irregular - 5, 9, 9, 12, 8, 7, 8....

This is an interesting read NKD and gives an idea of where you're up to labour wise :)

They say 3-2-1 is the big indicator contraction wise - 3 mins apart for 2 hours and 1 min long. :)

Lozzy - you dont NEED anyone else but surely your OH would support you if you lost your cool? If he knew it was important to you to keep calm wouldnt he try to help you do that?

He'd try but i dunno if he would be firm enough with me. Hes more emotional than i am.

Fab read, thanks xxxx

Lozzy, there are scripts as part of the hypnobirthing materials, so he would have phrases and statements that he could read to you. He wouldn't have to come up with ways of calming you himself off the top of his head. It is kind of like a tool kit, before birth you try out the different techniques to see which work for you. So if he felt out of his depth he could just return to the scripts. It becomes a lot about tone of voice, and about reminders to do the breathing.

We forgot to take the scripts and stuff with us to hospital when we transferred (although did have the CDs) but we had listened to the CDs so many times that MrUrban had all the phrases (or things that were near enough) in his head! And another good thing is the 'light touch' massage which is very calming, and very easy to do.

I think i might have a read and see how i feel.

Just seen the new forum :D

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! Will we be getting a new home I wonder!!! :D

omg how exciting. i always wondered why there wasnt a section for this and it was all submerged into one thread!

ooohhh completely agree with this i would much prefer to pay out for hypnobirthing than just order a book or cd. im sure they both work well but i LOVED havingt he suppport of our hypnobirthing lady she taught us so much she even discussed things like aromatherepy and she did acupuncture and taught us that light touch massage which is loveeellllyyyyy. there is so much more to it than the music. she was always there for support on the phone or email and i still keep in touch with her these days she was fab. she used to be a midwife and also a doula and bf specialist so she was very handy!

My oh didn't even read the book or the scripts and he did fine at helping me to stay calm. Being at home was a major part of that I think.... I think men feel more powerless and kind of frantic in a hospital setting, much calmer and more confident at home... It's empowering for them too, I think? Which means they are all the better able to support you... even if they don't do anything specific, just "being there", you can draw on their strength iykwim.

Maybe you could just go through a few things you would like him to do beforehand, once you've read the book? There's nothing difficult or taxing for birth partners in there. The light touch massage is easy and really helps. And they can offer you water, ask you about getting out, cooling down, going to the loo... and remind you to relax your face.
