Home Birthers & Hopefuls!

Sorry to get OT, but is anyone going unassisted? I am in the States, and can't get HB MW covered through insurance. I also can't afford to pay out of pocket for a HB MW. I am seeing two free standing birth center MWs, however, they are at least a one hour drive away, and im not sure how thats going to work out in the worst winter month of the yr here (February). I will remain in their care for the duration of my pregnancy (and perhaps even the actual birth) but Im undecided at this point about birthing at the FSBC or at home, please dont judge , but just wanted to know if anyone else was taking the UCB route? I dont want to turn this into a debate or a war, but i was just looking for someone to chat with about this :friends:

Talk to silver penny, she had a planned UC.

I don't blame you at all. I won't be having one because we don't have the knowledge to deal with another shoulder dystocia but I can certainly understand why anyone would choose it!!!

Hey thanks so much hun!
I did see one of her threads, and i think im gonna site down and read more of it.
I still dont know what i want to do, so thanks for the recommendation!

Wow! This is really impressive. I gave birth to my daughter in a hospital, but sometimes I wonder if I would have had a more personal experience giving birth at home.

Ive been thinking about if baby is breech and I just dont think I could do it at home. Not with having to monitor my blood sugars as well. Im not sure how much of a hassle the monitoring is going to be tho really. If its like constant adjustments, eating glucose tabs, injecting every hour then I just think I wont be able to focus enough for the delivery. Id prefer to go in and let them do the monitoring.

Any experiences of self monitoring would be appreciated. Would love to know where all these diabetic home birthers are!

Sending everyone 'head down' vibes tho :) Have a lovely sunday.

Just popping in to say my baby boy was born in the water at home 2 weeks ago (25th sept). I'm so happy with my choice to stay at home.

Good luck to all those planning home births :)

I wrote a few months ago (before I was pregnant lol!) that there was no birthing centre that would accept me as I was too far away (35km limit) but one just opened up only 15km away so I'm super excited, just having trouble reaching the centre itself (I don't speak French so I'm struggling with the voice messages lol)

Aha I thought I remembered you saying you werent in the uk.

Hmmm never time like the present to learn French LOL!

Haha yes! I am in Quebec, Canada. I am learning but it's still very hard over the phone when I can't see people's gestures :)

lol I bet it cant be easy!

I'm sure you'll find a solution though, although you may have to compromise some where along the line you'll work it out.

Been talking to a friend who has had some really sad news, she went for her 20week scan (with her 2nd lo) and baby was being naughty so they had to go back a week later and they have since discovered what looks like some quite severe hear abnormalities so they've had to cancel their holiday and theyre off to London this week to see a specialist.

Poor thing she's expecting the saddest outcome as she's already been told it looks quite bad, poor soul she's 22 weeks this weekend.

She just kept saying she was in shock these things happen to other people

Oh no :( I really hope the speacialist says its nothing :hugs: Im hoping she is just one of the many who get a bad first report, then see the specialist and all is well. It actually happened with my first (he was fine), but its such an emotional rollercoaster :( I know a few other girls this happened to and turned out to be fine. Will pray that is this woman's situation too :hugs:

blah - and any others with naughty non-head down babies: have you considered moxibustion as an alternative/addition to ECV? Apparently it has a 70% success rate

ttc bubby no.2 - congratulations

Here's hoping! She seems pretty final about it, I guess she's trying not to hope too much only to have her hopes dashed.
