Home Birthers & Hopefuls!

I'd say you are both definitely 'niggling'......:happydance:

I wonder who our next home birther is going to be!! :D

Rach I reckon something is in the air tonight...as I could have wrote your last post..

I dont have a clue what I am feeling here...called the midwife and let her know and she said it all sounds promising...

I am losing my plug slowly..clear mucous type stringy substance came away at 4am this morning...and then I had another tiny bit come away just now. No blood or anything. I had some of this same substance come away at 37 weeks so I am not really getting excited but today period pain has been CONSTANT and discharge is really watery. Lower back ache and just feeling really uncomfortable really...so Im just waiting and seeing really...

Exactly like me!! How strange!! I havent contacted my mw as she doesnt work on sundays and her phone will be off (im to call the hospital apparenty who will send out a midwife)....actually having read that last bit maybe i should call them just to see if that is what i am supposed to do....my OH isnt here (Maley is in bed luckily) so dont want to alert anyone in case its a false alarm!

oooh here comes another one....pain in my back!!

Oh I think your more progressed than me hun...I cant seem to define the pain stopping from starting..or maybe I can. I need it to get more painful before I call midwife again or at least some more show..until then I am waiting it out I could still be here next week... x x

yeah i will wait until i get something more significant like a blood show, waters or pains that i know are definately full contractions!

This might sound like a bit of an odd one, but has anyone else felt a bit like a cavewoman on the run up to their homebirth?

I really don't want people coming to the house and have been quite protective of 'my' space. OH thinks it's really funny, but I just want to batten down the hatches until I meet my baby. Weirdly I'm quite happy to go out and about though.

Carries - sorry to hear your SPD has got so much worse. It must be do frustrating especially when you already have another one to look after

Madasa - welcome! I have seen some of your threads in 3rd tri and you seem very informed!

Lozzy21 - I think I mentioned it after my 12 week appointment. He said he was unsure if he could be there because of his extreme squeamishness. At first his reaction was I don't want all that screaming and blood in the house. But then I said at the end of the day if you don't even think you can be there then I at least want to be at home where I feel safe. Since then he has really come round and said actually he would much prefer it at home and will hopefully be more involved as it won't be so clinical

Rachie and ER - ooooh sounds like something is happening!!

Well I had a lovely weekend, very relaxing. The spa day yesterday was amazing and the massage was fantastic - I was so chilled it was unbelievable.

Mothercare have just delivered everything we ordered so now the nursery furniture, pushchair etc are in the house it is starting to feel very real!!

My mum left on Saturday for a 3 month volunteer placement in Romania which was all arranged before I got pregnant. I am incredibly proud of her but it was a bit emotional and feel bit strange about it all. My mum and dad moved next door to us a couple of years ago (after living 200miles away) and have become very close to my mum in that time. I know I will be fine but it just seems very weird that the next time I will see her is with a 2month old baby which is her first grandchild!

Well the race is on ER!!! Where are you???? Hope your not on because your having a babyyyyyyyy!!!!!!

My pains stopped about 3am last night but have just started up again....funny enough i found walking through them really helpful (with Maley i couldnt stand at all) so have been walking (well shuffling using my crutches)......me and OH are gonna try and walk to the chicken shop later (we cant be arsed to cook today LOL) with Maley....its not far but may either help with the pains or get things moving....

Oh its lovely when you have all your furniture and stuff.....makes you feel so prepared and like its actually happening!!

Too bad about your mum, but then thats a once in a lifetime opportunity and how wonderful is that!! You will have to take lots of pics for her and maybe even print off some of your posts on here including your birth story.....by the time your mum comes back you will have forgotton some of your posts and will be good for your mum to see how you was feeling up to, during and after LO was born.....

I want to do a scrapbook for my girls...I have loads of posts in pregnancy section from when I was pregnant with Maley but not so much for this baby but I have lots of posts in here for this baby and hopefully will be a homebirth so they will be different in their own way!

Hello all. I hope those 'niggles' turn into something nice and definable for you ER and Rachie. Or that they go away and leave you in peace for a bit!

Can I ask a question about SPD? I have been getting an pain in the crease between my thigh and my body, coming round the front in the pubic area, that increases if I put my weight on one leg, is bad if I don't sleep 'right' (with pillow between knees), and if I sit with my legs apart or sit on a hard chair for too long. I don't usually have to go up many stairs as I live on the ground floor but I did yesterday and it hurt, but much less if I did it one step at a time. It also hurt walking up a steep slope.

I thought at first (I've had this about 4 weeks) it was just a general pregnancy niggle/ache but wonder if it may be more. If it is the start of SPD it is very mild, but if it is I want to make sure I'm not doing anything to make it worse.

I'm trying to be careful getting in and out of the bath, supporting myself with my hands so there isn't too much weight on one leg. I'm getting in and out of the car by swivelling in the seat with my legs together, and I'm sitting down to put underwear and trousers on, rather than balancing on one leg.

All that seems to be helping, but is there anything else I should be doing/not doing? I have a midwife appointment in about a week and a half, so I will mention it to her then of course.

And I got what is the final delivery of 'stuff' today (apart from the pram and the pool) of nappy bin, washable wipes and hooded towels, and another one of breastfeeding suitable tops, so I'm feeling prepared in a purely practical sense.

My husband was very on board with the home birth thing from the start, I said I wanted to consider it when we started trying, and he was all for it.

He doesn't much like doctors to start with, and also hated the idea of going home on his own after the birth and leaving me and the baby in hospital. The visiting hours there are 10am to 9pm but it would still be weird - we work together and do most of our socialising together so the idea of being apart at such an important time seemed really 'off' to us both.

Hello my love...no I am still here...I just woke up from my nap and guess what I am still pregnant.. Pains have started up again just now..I can see this dragging on..stop start stop start...

Thats so nice your mother going away to Romania to do a volunteer placement, I have always wanted to do something like that...

I remember when all my furniture got delivered, its a great feeling isnt it hun. Enjoy, it makes it feel so real when you see everything up. I still go in her room and just look sometimes..:cloud9:

Rachie & ER - HOLY COW I AM SO EXCITED FOR BOTH OF YOU! :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

Wonder which one will pop first.... I hope it already turned into something "real" for both of you and that you're both progressing OK.... Wishing you both a peaceful labour and a smooth delivery in the comfort of your own homes :D

Cactusgirl - thank you! Don't know if you can tell, but I was not happy with how my birth turned out last time, so I basically wrote a birth plan shortly afterwards and I've been researching it and tweaking it ever since (almost 3 yrs) especially since getting pregnant again.

MM - I am free to share the Hypno-Stuff via MSN any evening this week. That would be SO kindof you, thank you so much!

My book has not arrived yet, I feel like I should have started practising stuff weeks and weeks ago.... but on the other hand, I think I have a bit of ahead start in that I am already relaxed and excited about it all and I trust the process..... I'm happy to give in and let my body and LO take over when the time comes :)

Yep that sounds like SPD to me...though probably not as severe.....does your pelvis click....?

You are doing everything that the physio tell you to do...but there isnt really much that can be done. Im on crutches as mine is really bad and they give you a support belt which helps a little. Your allowed to take strong painkillers but only really when it is so bad but i just take the pain even though it makes me cry sometimes cos i dont want to take strong painkillers whilst pregnant....

You dont have long left so i hope it doesnt worsen for you cos its really horrible....

Quick update from me ladies...

Had physio for my SPD on Friday and am now offically on crutches which is fun! Kept getting a twinge on my inner thigh muscle and my leg kept giving way. Was really hoping it was a pulled muscle but have been told it is a progression of my SPD.

To be honest, it is really starting to take its toll :( So sick of feeling debilitated and useless and feel so sorry for my little man as I cant do half as much as usual with him.

Seeing the midwife on the 22nd so until then just plodding along!

Hope you are all doing well...any word from Rach? I see she hasnt posted for a few days (unless I have missed it)

Hiya!! Only just managed to come on and read through everyones posts!! his thread moves so quickly!!

I feel for you hun, the SPD can be so depressing. Mine eased up for a week or so and then suddenly came back with avengance! Its complete agony getting up from bed and i cant sleep at night again!

I think mentally its hard because your mind is fine and you want to do things but you cant. The lovely weather we have had for the past few days has really got to me too.....my OH has been taking Maley out and i am stuck in the house and it really gets me down. Its also putting a dampener on the pregnancy which i really didnt want. At least i am near the end though which is a relief. Do you find the crutches help?

xxx I feel for you hunny xx Are you on facebook?? Im on there quite a bit and you can moan to me all you like....i dont mind!! x

Hiya Rach

Yeah I am on facebook. Have messaged you my email as thats probably the easiest way to find me...I'll try not to moan too much!

I know what you mean about the nice weather. My OH doesnt drive so he is limited as to where he can take Oscar. I managed to get out on saturday though (albeit slowly) and really felt the benefit of some fresh air. Hope you are doing ok this week xx

Ooooo Rach and ER .....sounds promising to me!

I was in slow labour with Oscar for about a week (sorry!) having all of the symptoms you have and sat at about 2cm. Deffo sounds like the start of something to me!

Urbanbumpkin, sounds like SPD to me although as Rach says you are doing everything right. Mine seems to have progressed quite quickly but there is such a wide spectrum of severity of symptoms I would just keep on doing what you are and go with the flow as you are so close to the end.

Hope it doesnt get much worse for you hun xx

Urbanbumpkin - my SPD is not as severe as others but it is still extremely painful. I got a very attractive hip girdle which has really helped. I had to buy mine but some people have managed to get one on the NHS.

We went to our first NCT class last night and we are the only ones planning a home birth. The facilitator was very pro staying at home for as long as possible during labour even if you were not planning to be at home for the actual birth.

Only another week till the MW visits at home to do the risk assessment - cannot wait!!

Wow hun, not long to go. How exciting that its only a week til risk assessment. I'm pretty sure I never got one of those, but my HB was only confirmed at 37 weeks after I'd had a scan for low placenta. I'm so excited for you!!!

Yep that sounds like SPD to me...though probably not as severe.....does your pelvis click....?

It did the other day, a rather disconcerting noise and feeling.

Thanks for the responses Rachie, carries and Cactusgirl. It is good to know I'm doing the right things to minimise it. I made a conscious effort yesterday to do all of that, and I felt much better. So hopefully I can avoid it getting much worse for the few weeks I have left.

Only another week till the MW visits at home to do the risk assessment - cannot wait!!

Having the midwife in your living room makes it seem very real!

Hi Ladies :flower:

Well I have been perusing this thread longingly for weeks but have had opposition from my DH so haven't really joined in much....

BUT Last night.. yay!! I think, I am starting to get somewhere with him lol
At first he just kinda went ewwww !!! NO!!!! :growlmad: or very bluntly changed the subject lol but last night he actually asked me why it was important to me (''well what's the big attraction anyway ???) and when I explained about the added stress of the journey from here to the hospital (about 30 mins away), the reduced risk of hospital aqcuired infection, versus the calm environment of being at home, the use of a birthing pool at home etc(they'll not let me use one in hospital due to my spd  and possible difficulties getting me out in an emergency!!) ; and the fact that once lil one is born ,the midwifes leave and NOT him - he kind of agreed that it wasn't an awful idea.

Still a bit of persuasion needed tho lol:haha:
I think he is worried about the noise, the mess and more importantly something going wrong at the birth -my last labour was very quick and I think he is scared about having to catch baby too haha

And still have to speak to the midwifes too - they have already said that I can't have my CMU birth and that they want me to go consultant led due to my spd (but this is just crazy to me:wacko::wacko: why? why? why?)

Anyways - things are looking up; hopefully I'll have him totally turned into a HB fan soon and wont get too much negativity from my mw's .

Really looking forward to hearing how you other ladies get on (espec those with spd, as that seems to be my biggest hurdle at the moment)

Lotta love and for those imminently expecting little bundles of joy Good Luck!!

:hugs::hugs:

Edited to say: Baby boy due 13th July xx
