is/was your LO a really bad sleeper? support and advise thread!

Thanks Clairey and MrsHedgehog

It's reassuring to hear that you have had/are having similar experiences. Feeding, rocking and co-sleeping are all the most natural things in the world to do - just a shame they backfire for us lot!

MrsHedehog, re the co-sleeping question, when we did it we dismantled our bed and put the mattress on the floor pushed right up to the corner. Me and LO slept there. We also had a spare double mattress which we put next to it for DH to sleep on so we were in one big 'family bed'. Worked really well for us at the time.

Terrible night last night - woke between 30mins to hourly all night long. It was a very long night

still no connection and having a busy day at work so no time to post properly. hope to find sometime and read your post/questions ramie, but in bried, we do the same, co-sleeping, BF and rock to sleep, etc etc
but as you'd imagine LO has found other ways of going to sleep at nursery....

ps - LO's been ill on and off for a month now and we're having a major regression

I hope you are coping the best way you can Kosh. It must be so tough back at work.
Lucy decided that 5.15am was the right time to get up this morning?!:nope: so feeling very tired. Tried to get an early night and I had nodded off quite happily only to be woken at 11pm by my OH blowing a fuse whilst ironing and it made LO's white noise stop and it woke us up!!!!:wacko: not happy!
:hugs::hugs:

I really had to struggle through yesterday as my night on Tuesday was awful! All Lucy wanted to do was suck ALL night! I just had to lie next to her with my boob in her mouth:wacko: last night was slightly better but still not great!
I hope tonight I can get a few more zzzzz's
How is everyone else doing?
:hugs:

My night was pretty much the same Claire. LO was so unsettled all night and I barely slept a wink. When she woke up in the morning she did 3 or 4 really loud and big farts and was then much happier! That's probably what was bothering her all night. Don't know why she couldn't have done that at midnight and given me a bit of peace the rest of the night! She's super grumpy today too and wanting to go for her nap already even though she hasn't had lunch yet.

Hi ladies, sorry to hear that your nights have been sleepless. We've been having a dreadful time too. I've been up to settle him around 8/9 times the last few nights. He's teething soooo badly and has a cough and a cold. Just wish these dam teeth would hurry up. I've dosed him up on Nurofen tonight so hoping that will help a bit.

If (when!) you're up in the night, at least you know one of us is likely to be up at the same time :flower:

Sending sleepy dust xxx

Hi Ramie, sorry to hear you've been having a hard time of it. It really is no fun when it's teething and a cold too!! Hopefully the Nurofen will help tonight.
I guess you are right about one of us being up at the same time too:winkwink: it's a shame we can't all be sleeping soundly all night long.
My Mum asked me for ideas for Christmas and my birthday and I said "easy, some sleep please!" lol. she laughed as she knows how bad it is,as I was the same....like mother like daughter eh?!:haha:
Sleepy dust to all.

Just to add,I Hope you get you internet back soon Kosh,I'm missing you:thumbup:

Thanks Clairey! I dread the answer to this but what age did you start sleeping through or for longer periods?! Maybe your lo will follow the same pattern.

Do you know I'm not sure? I think I was more of a creeping into Mummy's bed at night type of girl. I was in her bed until I was about 5 I think, but I know they used to put me back into mine when they went to bed etc.
I was breastfed too but again I will have to ask what age she stopped,I know I ended up with a bottle so that obviously didn't have any effect on my sleeping! lol
I think it's karma for all those nights I kept her up!:haha:

haha! I don't mind if George ended up creeping into my bed until he was 10 as long as he blummin sleeps!!

Hi all
Hope everyone is doing ok, well as well as you can be on such little sleep. I'm back at work now and its not too bad. It is actually a break from LO which sometimes is welcome particularly after a bad night. As much as I miss him knowing that if he has a bad night and wakes for the day at 5 then at least I get some peace in the day. Makes me sound like an awful mum but it actually makes it easier to deal with the night wakings as I haven't had a full day of trying to entertain a horrendously grumpy baby.

His sleep is okish but he's had a horrendous couple of weeks. Obviously me going back to work has unsettled him but he is teething like a bitch and has had a cold. I also think he might have cold sores!! :-( Thursday night was just horrible. He slept from 7 - 7.30. Then 8-9.30 and then was awake until 3am. I tried everything even co-sleeping which we don't do as he doesnt settle. My OH took over at 3am and I got 90 minutes sleep and then i took over at 4.30 as OH had to get up to walk the dogs. I finally got him to sleep at 5.30 when I had to get up for work! I was relieved to go to work that day however tired I was.

But he is happy enough with my MIL and at nursery so I am happy.

:hi: it looks like we're back on line
i'll try to catch up with some of the old posts tomorrow

our nights have been getting worse and worse. LO manages to sleep the first 2 hours on his own but then he will NOT settle if it is not in my arms and with a boob in his mouth ALL night :dohh: i think he's compensating for his time alone at nursery, poor thing :nope:

also, now when he wakes he rubs his nose and his ears. he seems very uncomfortable. we saw a doc a few days ago who said he has glue ear and prob enlarged adenoids but that it was nothing serious but now i am wondering if this is what is affecting his sleep so much?
just found in another forum a couple of mums with babies/children with the same problem also saying that their babies never STTN (or longer than 3hr)

what do you think ladies?

should go to bed now
sleepy :dust:

ps- i like your idea ramie that there is always another one of us up in the middle of the night :flower:

Hi Kosh, so glad you are back online!
We had the boob thing the other night - all Lucy wanted to do was suck all night! but I spend all day with her so it can't be from lack of time with me,so god knows why she wanted to do it?:nope:
I wouldn't be so sure about his ear issues. It might not be "medically serious" but I bet you it has to affect his sleep. I would maybe research it a bit more?
I hope tonight is better for us!
OH is going to take Lucy out for the afternoon now so I can have some time to myself, but I have so much to do I don't know what to do 1st?!!
:hugs:

Good to see that you are back online Kosh.

Hope you enjoyed your baby free time Clairey and that you managed to put your feet up for a bit!

Flippity that sounded like a really tough night but good that you are getting a bit of a break at work.

I had the night from hell last night, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse. He woke so many times, around 12 or 13 I think. The Nurofen did bugger all! Nearly lost the plot several times so OH had to take over. On a positive though, OH managed to get George to sleep a few times (something he's never been able to do before). I will definitely be making use of this newly acquired skill!!

Already had to resettle at his usual 30 minute wake up tonight. Not feeling positive at all

well, LO has conjunctivitis now............:nope:

i
can't
take
it
anymore

Oh Kosh :hugs:
You will get through this, you're not alone. We're all in this sleepless mess together. Will be thinking of you tonight xx

thanks ramie, it means a lot to me
i really feel i can't cope anymore
it's not even the lack of sleep, it's the feeling that it will never get better
a month ago he was doing sooo much better, self-settling at bedtime and a few times during the night, and now after this month of constantly being ill he wakes up 1000s times per night, and has to be on the boob every single time. I need to get at least some sleep so I don't even try other methods...

just got back from hospital re. his eyes and i mentioned his sleep problems and surprise surprise the doctor told me to see his HV for a 'plan' to stop bad habits.

i hate hate hate the term bad habits

Oh Ramie, sorry for your rubbish night. I hope tonight is better?
I know what you mean about not being positive, you get that feeling when it's going to be a bad night and you almost don't want to go to sleep as you know you will be woken any minute
My Lucy free time was spent cleaning, cooking and doing a calendar for Christmas,so no feet were put up sadly.
Fingers crossed for less wake ups!
:hugs:
