Itty Bitty Babies Club (Slow Gainers)

my daughter was definatly in this club, she was 7 lb 15oz at birth and hadnt made it to 10 lb by the time she was 5 months. she ended up having to get a feeding tube due to horrid reflux. she still didnt gain fast with that struggling to hit 20 lbs at 14 months, this was on 40 oz of milk a day.

she had surgery to resolve her reflux and has done great ever since. she is 5 now and does fantastic, eats well and has grown into her self and you would never think she was this tiny scrao of a baby.

jenn xx

God. Sounds like you had a right old time of it. Glad she's better now xxx

Did every one have a nice easter?

We didn't do much. The OH was working fri, sat and sun. The 'Out-Laws' came to visit me (we'll Noah) on the saturday, which was nice. And i did my little fish tank job on the Monday.

Re: Blinkies, you can all have individual ones if you like?

If not, i think its between the red and the last one. I too am easy going.................

There must be some one with authority round here to make the decision! :haha:

Happy Easter to all the Itty Bitty Babies and their parents! :bunny:
Blinkies: I reckon the last one gets my vote, it would be cool for everyone to have the same one.
P.S. anyone give LO chocolate? I grated a small amount on Logan's banana and yoghurt, seemed to like it!

Hi all

I hope everyone had a good Easter - we had friends up for the weekend who cooked us a lovely dinner (apparently DH and I both looked exhausted so they took pity on us!!)

I've eaten far too much chocolate - and more to come tonight I'm sure (until it's all gone I'll just keep on eating it :dohh:)

Had some worrying news last week. Rebecca has been diagnosed with craniosynostosis (part of her skull has fused early). She'll probably need an operation at some point and we're waiting to see the specialist. I'm really hoping it's not too serious a case but we'll have to wait and see.

On the positive side, between the Thursday at the HV and Monday at the consultants, Rebecca had gained 4oz :happydance: It may well be down to the different scales but I'll take it anyway! Her feeding has increased in the last couple of weeks so hopefully that'll translate into weight gain. The consultant looked at her weight gain chart and said he wasn't too worried at this stage. He said to ignore the first 6 weeks as it is often not indicative of a baby's true weight. Rebecca has remained roughly on the 9th percentile since 6 weeks so he wasn't bothered. He said to monitor it and if it drops significantly they'll look into it further.

Anyway, that's enough of us! I hope you and your itty bitty ones are well x

just to say i wont be online for the next couple of weeks coz of my wedding & honeymoon, but wanted to wish you all a (late) happy easter 7 hope all of you & your LO's are doing well :)

Florabean - Huge congratulations :hugs: Hope everything goes really well - enjoy every minute!

WW1 - sorry to hear about your LO's diagnosis. Fingers crossed that you get to see the specialist quickly, and that it's not too serious :hugs:

We had relatively quiet Easter, partly because my Grandmother died on April 1st, and I just didn't feel up to doing much. Funeral is this Friday, will be glad when it's over - really don't like them!

We're going back to the clinic tomorrow to get Romilly weighed again. It's been 3 weeks since her last visit, so I'm hoping for a fairly good gain. Her feeding accelerated a bit for a few days last week, but has dropped off a bit since, so not sure what's going on there! We've also started BLW, so far so good! She chomped on a bit of avocado on toast the other day, which I got stupidly excited about

Hope all the itti bittis are doing ok :D

Morning all!

Florabean - congratulations! I hope you have an amazing time.

Eala - so sorry to hear about your Gran. Thanks for your kind words xx

Have a great time Flora!

WW1 - Really sorry to hear of Rebeccas condition. I hope its not too serious and that it can be sorted soon with the minimum of upset for he :hugs:

Eala - i'll be thinking of you on friday, so sorry. My friend died the same day. Her funeral is on tuesday. Not looking forward to it at all.

O.K. The code for the blinkie is

Just copy and paste it into your signature, then delete the spaces so its one continuos line of text.

Let me know if its too big and i'll play around with some more x

Yay for blinkie! I need to change my sig a bit so I have enough room left in the guidelines to add it in

Thank you all for your kind words about my Granny. I'm hoping that Friday goes ok.

Well, got Romilly weighed today! When I went in, my HV was all serious and told me that she'd started plotting Romilly's weight on the "new" WHO charts, and on these new ones, she was quite a bit below the 0.4th centile line. She didn't want me worrying (!), as Romilly is obviously bright and meeting her developmental milestones, but she said that if she kept on following that line (or lack of line!), she'd have to refer us to a paediatrician (sp?). I was a bit "meh" but just went about getting Romilly undressed.

Ladies, my clever little girly has put on 17oz in 3 weeks! I was just about crying, I'm so proud of her :) This puts her firmly between the 0.4th and 2nd centiles on the old charts, and the HV thinks she'll also be just above the 0.4th on the new charts :) Then to top it all off, Romilly has started sitting totally unaided today as well! It's just the kind of day I've needed after the crappiness of the past week (with Friday still to come :dohh:)

Diz - I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. I'll think of you on Tuesday, I hope it's bearable :hugs:

Hi ladies, just thought I'd mention that I noticed some other BnB'ers had some great glittery writing in their sigs. Found the site they got it, thought I'd add in another couple of options for Itty Bitty Baby sig bits? There's what's in mine atm (I love your version Diz, I'm just a sucker for Disney writing! :haha:)

https://www.familylobby.com/common/tt5249542fltt.gif

I liked that colour too. Seemed hard to get one that was fairly unisex, as most of the purples (except the one in my sig) were awfully pink too  There are other fonts, but who can resist Disney

Thanks for the siggie, its awesome! :flower:
Logans been a bit poorly for the last couple of days (massive sicks and sleepy), seems to be getting better though (currently in his jumperoo and blowing kisses at Daddy, so cant feel too bad!)

Well done on Romilly's weight gain! Thats fab!

WW1, hope the specialist appointment goes ok when you have it :hugs:

florabean, have a fantastic wedding! :flower:

How about this one too?! I think I'm gonna use it for mine. Love the siggies girls! Sorry I haven't been around much. I'm still internet-less for a few more weeks. DH is home from the navy in a week and than we drive across the country to California!! :happydance: Hopefully we'll get internet soon after that.

What do you guys think about this....

I changed LOs teat (like everybody suggested and I said no) and it worked lol. She was then sooo hungry and eating so much I put her on hungry milk. Anyway, she went from 9 lb 13 to 10 lb 10 in a week (she gained all that after only 4 days with the new teat). Then when I went last week they said she had LOST 6 oz. I told them the scale must be wrong and they took offense and said "well nobody else has complained" which is stupid because they had only been weighing for 30 mins and hardly any of the other babies go every week like we do so those babies may not have been weighed wrong. HV said it's good that she seems okay in herself but I disagreed because it's not good is it? At least of she had been eating less it would make sense, surely if she's eating lots and still losing weight that would be bad??!! HV coming Tuesday (she was coming anyway) and she is going to weigh her to make sure she hasn't lost anymore.

So, do you think she lost all that weight or were the scales wrong? I'm sick of keep being fobbed off by the HVs that she is fine. She has only put on 3 lbs since she was born and she is 12 weeks on Thursday! There was none of this slow gain business in the first few weeks. Sorry, ranting :(

mrskx0x0, firstly :hugs: Its tough having a weenie baby as theres sooo much pressure in having them put on weight. The scales must be wrong, especially as your baby is not ill (and too young to be doing anything energetic like learning to walk etc). Logan lost weight but that was because he was BF and my supply just ran out, but he has always been a happy baby so you couldnt tell that he was not getting enough milk (apart from the weight loss). Not sure if you can weigh a baby on a set of scales (if you held the baby and then deducted the gain off your known weight?), dont know if it would work, but at least it woud be the same set of scales they would be weighed on.
:flower:

The scales thing drives me mad!! When Rebecca was ill at 6 weeks, the hospital weighed her and she had lost a little weight (not a surprise as she was barely eating). When she was back home, the HV weighed her on her mobile scales and she'd put on 6oz in 1 week (surprising given she'd not been eating!).

The following week, at the doctors, she was weighed (having eaten well) and had only put on 1oz.

A complete load of tosh!! The HV told me all the scales should be the same as they have been calibrated but I don't think they are.

Just found this thread and think we really fit in here. My LO was a large 8lb 12 when born. She dropped 14% by day three and we went into hospital where she gained 140oz. She then plateaued for two weeks and has been going up very slowly since and is still not at birth weight. I have constantly been told different things (must supplement (MW) its normal (GP) I will never be able to solely breast feed (HV)) and am going out of my mind. We have gone from 90 something centile down to 9th. I would love advice from anyone. I breastfeed pretty much all day. She has loads of wet and dirty nappies and seems well otherwise.
xx

emma-Love the name BTW! :winkwink: With me, Emma fed all day long in the beginning as well. I literally would get a five minute break to use the restroom and if I was lucky, a shower. And while I did those things, she'd scream for more. It was like a switch around 6 weeks old she slowly just started getting more efficient and I think my milk finally caught up for her. I took fenugreek and it seemed to help. I took 6 capsules a day and smelled like a maple syrup factory for weeks. :dohh: But I really think it worked. Drink tons of water as well to help the supply. It sounds like your doing amazing. I learned to ignore doctors and just follow my own instincts. Emma is VERY small but also very advanced with milestones and development. She's super happy too. So follow your instincts. :hugs: Good luck to you hun. Also, Welcome to the group!!! :happydance::happydance:

Thanks - will definately take a look into taking Fenugreek, and not just because I love maple syrup!! I have been reading through this thread and there is nothing more reassuring than hearing about how other people who have been through the same thing and maybe 6 or even 12 months down the line their LO's are getting on well. Hannah is also ahead in lots of other ways - her first smile was at 4 weeks!
The HV suggested yesterday to give her a 120ml 'top up' of formula which I did yesterday afternoon. It took ages to feed to her as she wasn't that hungry (she takes a bottle well if hungry) and wasn't that interested in breastfeeding for the rest of the day. Frustratingly I threw away 90ml of expressed milk because she wasn't hungry!! So I am not sure about continuing with the formula as I don't think it seems like she needs it.

xx

Hi Emma - welcome along xxx

Porridge/oats is also good at getting up your milk supply. I ate tones in the beginning!

Its difficult to know what to do for the best, isn't it? As you mentioned- everyone will tell you some thing different. My Dr told me to stop BF and give Noah SMA (what an idiot). Luckily i did not. Even though Noah is on a low centile for his weigh he is well in him self, reaches all the right mile stones on time and all the rest of it.

Can i join? Connor was born weighing 4lb 8oz for the first month he was in and out of hospital as he lost weight and went down to 4lb and stayed there for the first month and since then he has been gradually putting weight on. Connor is 10 months now and weighs 15lb and has always been below the 0.4 centile and i dont think thats going to change to be honest. I still have to take connor to be weighed every 2 weeks as even though he cant go any lower than the 0.4 centile his weight gain is dipping and going down on his chart

edit - decided to add a picture of connor the day after he was born 4lb 8oz

and today 15lb
