Itty Bitty Babies Club (Slow Gainers)

My daughter is a slow gainer (but still with in "normal") despite having over 30 oz of milk a day. My HV has said as long as shes gaining something, roughly following the centile and is developing then shes just ment to be small. Babys are like adults, some can eat and eat and eat and stay on the small side and others just have to look at their milk and they gain.

oh gosh mummy3 id love to hear your experience of it if you dont mind as we are just starting our journey and dont know what to expect really x x

I'd love to help:hugs: My son was diagnosed last year after lots of uti's and blood in his urine. He had an ultrasound and a voiding cystourethrogram which showed moderate/severe reflux of his left kidney. He is on daily antibiotics and will be going for a repeat of the tests in october and most likely surgery after that. He has a urologist and a nephrologist:thumbup:

hmm interesting, thanks ladies - i find it odd that Ems on 0.4 for both - short as well as skinny - im not exactly petite. I keep thinking shell have some spurt.... but its not happened yet! - were back at Paed at the end of May - i have so many things to ask him, im starting to get paraoid there is something wrong with her again, like growth hormone deficiency or something

What does she weight now?

hi, sorry, been off the radar for a few days - Em is now 11lb8oz at 6months. still on 0.4th for weight and length. shes kept on the same curve since she was born which i guess is ok??? still paranoid when her 2 1/2 month old cousin weighs more than her !!!

hello everyone, hope everyone and the gorgeous lo's are doing ok.
callie at almost 13 months now weighs 14lb 4, shes lost a little weight and is now on the 0.1 centile so below the 0.3 she is normally on but hv still said happy and healthy and have just put it down to her moving around more now n the fact she was ill few weeks back. not sure about length last time her length was done was at her 9month check and she was on the 9th centile. hc im dont have a clue on, but apperently she has a small head as a few people have told me lol

Dont think of what she actualy weighes now but think of how much she has gained since birth. Shes put on 6lb on since birth which is well with in normal, shes following the curve which is perfect.

My LO is the same, when she was weighed at 5 months she was 5lb heavier than birth, she was just born a lot bigger than your LO.

great gains to all the bambinos.

I was thinking how do your itty bitty babies compare height (length) wise?

Em is on 0.4th for weight and length but is a few lines up for head circ (lollypophead!!)

so she short and skinny!

what about your little ones, are they also short ??

Also - Jayne - heard about James via FB - glad hes home now and sending you both lots of hugs n kisses and speedy recovery.....

I don't know centile etc but Connie was 10lb 1/2 oz at 14 weeks but is quite long I think - lucky thing is tall and skinny!

thanks Lozzy!! appreciate it, shes eating well at the mo - and has even just cut her first tooth!!! so im hoping she might catch up soon - but maybe not, maybe she is just a small baby !!

thanks mummy3 they havent told us a great deal as we have been referred to Birmingham to see Dr millford who i think is the kidney specialist there. From what they did say James' is both his kidneys, had the uti caused damage to your little boys kidneys? X

I'm not sure which came first for my little guy, I'm told the reflux increases risk of infection and that infection can worsen the kidney damage. He was diagnosed pretty late at 2 1/2 and defo had been having UTIs beforehand but I have relatives with congenital kidney disorders. How's James doing atm?:flower:

Hi everyone! I've not been in for ages but wanted to let you know that Rebecca was weighed yesterday and is now 21lb 4 which is almost back at her birth percentile (50th). I can't believe it - my itty bitty one is turning into a chunky monkey!!

If you had told me a year ago her weight would be back up to the 50th percentile I wouldn't have believed you!

I hope everyone else is doing well x

That's great WW1! Way to go Rebecca.

Ivy is now 12lb 12oz at 23 weeks :flower: Almost almost almost on the 9th percentile :happydance:

Well done Ivy, she looks loads bigger than what she weighes.

Yay, Ivy!
I'd like to see Gabriel get up to the 1st percentile some day :haha:

Ivy went down to the bottom of the 2nd percentile but she has suprised me in the past few weeks by gaining as much weight as she did as a newborn some weeks

Lozzy - she looks chubbier because she has a 'moon face' even at 6lb she had a double chin :haha:

Harry's 22lbs 3oz now, so still sitting just below the 25th centile line & doing just great  Also got a :bfp: this week, so yay!

Congrats flora!
I still can't wrap my brain around the fact that all y'all would volunteer to go through this baby hell again. But maybe it's only been hell for me.
