And one last question; we were given loads of talc in a gift hamper when LO was born, but I have no idea how you're supposed to use it. Suggestions anyone?

I use talc on tommy under his arm pits and in all his creases after he has a bath, stops them from chaffing and getting sore while the skin is damp.
And it smells lovely :D
If you dont want it send it this way :winkwink::haha: xxx

Yeah I use it after a bath in the creases, and on his bum after a nappy change to keep him dry. I just put a bit in my hand and rub it in.

Does using talc make their skin dry?? Ellie always used to have alot of dry skin so I just never used talc on her
ALSO......... If I used talc on her can I use cream on her after or would this just make one big mess

Its not made my LO's skin dry. I wouldn't put cream on talc, its either one or the other for me. My routine normally is sudocrem (or whatever cream you use) morning and night, and then talc inbetween. I don't put cream on him after a bath but my LO doesn't have dry skin so if your LO does then maybe stick with the cream.

LOL, I would send it but the postage across Europe would cost a bomb! We have two big bottles of it, so I will have to do some major talcing...

I've just remembered that the midwife at my antenatal class recommended "Halos N Horns" products; she said they seem to be the best for newborn skin. Unfortunately only days before we had stocked up on Johnsons stuff, so we haven't tried HnH yet. But when we finish the Johnsons stuff we intend to try them

I have always thought the same, I use talc after a bath under her arms and creases, but also if her eczema flared up I have to use cream lol I put the talc on then dab little bits of cream on her poorly areas lol :dohh:

You can put talc on after cream but u cant put cream on after talc xxxx

Umm I've only waded through half this thread but I am an analytical chemist and a few things struck me about that report.

Firstly why have only half the products been tested for formaldehyde when they're making a huge hoo-hah about it? Surely for scientific unbias and completeness all products should have been treated the same? Which raises serious doubts for me about the motives/methods behind the report.

Secondly 200 parts per million stated for johnsons baby shampoo is very dilute, if you read the safety data sheets for most chemicals in their pure form it would scare the bejesus out of you and you would never go near them (just look up any household cleaner for instance). Thirdly there are products out there with much higher levels of chemicals in them than Johnsons.

Lastly our environment is full of natural and unnatural things that are either hazardous to health or cause cancer a certain amount of perspective is surely required when making an informed choice for our children. You will always get someone that reacts to something whether it be natural or man-made.

some science and common sense!! I like it! :D

I wouldn't take much notice of that article that was posted earlier. Tbh in almost all man made products you could look up the ingredients online and find an article that tells you they are BAD. We can't avoid everything that is bad or we would never do anything. I don't use j&j because they test on animals which I'm against.

never thought to check if they were tested on animals!!
oh well, I never paid for it, always used free product coupons. :haha:

Omar got cradle cap frm Johnson's shampoo & allergy frm the lotion. But I love their baby soap- (it clears his drooling chin spots), & baby oil is very mild.

Hi - was it definitely from the lotion and shampoo? Ive noy heard of this before... just asked my wife - neither has she.

Yup, I'm sure. I only used the shampoo once, & his hair was covered with craddle cap the next day. He was 2 mnths old (I was using baby soap before), when we switched to the body shop baby shampoo, we never had craddle cap. As for the lotion (the pink thing), once I applied it on his skin & started massaging it, he got really red patches, it only faded after 1 full day. I'm also allergic to Johnson's lotion. I tried several other lotions (I was obssessed about baby lotions) & they were all ok. Now I just stick to baby oil (Cheaper & more convenient)

Lola got cradle cap from Johnsons shampoo too. My HV said it had a reputation for it. Soon as I stopped using it the cradle cap disappeared
