June Dragonflies 2016 Babies and Beyond!

Crazy our job is only protected for 3 months (for babies and medical stuff). I have almost 6 months of paid leave but I'm not allowed to use it all at this time for baby. I can only use three months.

UK ladies, I'm curious what your employer does with your job functions during leave? I have someone covering but going back part time four weeks earlier than planned because they are struggling and I want to help.

Karli, Poppy is so cute! What's her weight? She looks the same size as H. I read week 8 is a wonder week and they can be more fussy.

Squig we were thinking more along the lines of a behavioural disorder, although he had some issues with poo smearing which doesn't really fit with that. . . In any case we were advised to do a parenting course and told they won't even look at him at this age. Carl said he's going to take him back to the Dr's but I don't think it'll help. Often when we're talking to him about whatever he's done wrong he's completely vacant. There's never any genuine remorse or even understanding of why he's being punished. He told me today out of nowhere that when I speak to him I spoil his day because I ruin his thoughts and once I've spoken he can't think it again.

I'm sorry to see the other fournagers are struggling too :-( we tried a sticker chart before and it didn't help. Maybe a treat system? When he was in school he got a Friday Ice cream if he was good all week. I could try something like that but I'm not sure what. . .

He's amazing with Georgia. He gets really distressed when she cries, I think she's the only thing he really has an emotional response to. He can't wait for her to play with him and gets a bit frustrated that she can't sleep in his room yet.

HV has just been - little toad is 10lb 7oz! Only 3oz off doubling her birth weight. She's behind on the 6-8 week check but her corrected age is only 5 weeks so I couldn't give a rats! She's developed massively since birth and I'm not concerned at all.

I told dh when we were thinking about trying the first time, i wouldn't do it unless i could stay home. i couldn't handle the idea of going back to work, and after i had baby, omg, there is no way i could've gone back. i'd have lost my job. i couldn't have brought myself to leave baby i just know it.

oh pixie i'm so sorry about your boy :( he'll come around soon i hope.

j had trouble settling last night but once he did it was 11 (usually goes down at 10 but apparently needed a bit more milk) and slept through til 6. and there was a terrible banging of rain all over the house. thunder and lightning oh my woke me up. even woke up dh and nothing wakes him!

Lol starlight my employer is just sulking. They kept trying to push my mat leave before G was born and then felt very guilty when she was born early. They haven't replaces me so the other two members of the team are covering. Problem is I'm the highest performer and would usually cover for them. Almost everyone takes 9 months at our place- because they pay 100% for 6 months no one will ever come back in less than that time

starlight does your company offer aflac? i was going to get it when i was working (my friend got it) it allows you extra time with a maternity package but you have to have it so many months before you have baby for it to work. my friend had a rough pregnancy and had to leave work early and aflac completely covered that, and she got her regular maternity leave after. i'd look into it!!!

oh and my 6wk pp went well. They checked everything and said i look great, and i'm all cleared. However the hoo ha check hurt like a you know what. i mean really, is tht necessary!?

Well we made a big fuss out of it and went out and bought it together. It was £2.99 in home bargains and is brilliant. He loves a wee TV show and every time he gets 20 stickers he gets another character from the show. I had to sneak into his room at night to give him his inhalers and because he is promised a sticker now if he takes it he gets so excited about taking it.

When he is naughty we threaten to take stickers back and that means he won't get his toy as soon.

Nobody checked my hoohaa! :haha:

I don't think J had a developmental check at 6-8 weeks, just a medical one. Well the GP said "has she smiled yet?" But that was it. Are they meant to do anything else?

The ob checked me to make sure things were looking good (even though I had a section). It hurt!

Mommyx, I dint think they offer it but I mostly just want to use leave without pay for a year and have a job to come back to.., that's not an option though lol. Wish it was. I'm waiting until October when I'm full time to decide if I'll stay or leave.

Gosh Starlight I wouldn't give two figs whether or not whoever was covering my job could do it; I certainly wouldn't go back early to help!! The rest of my team will cover my work. It's busy for them but we're getting two more staff so that should eventually help things settle down.

Pixie - I'm sorry to hear about ds' behaviour, I agree with your oh I would take him back to the gp and demand they take it seriously, they can't leave you without any help or support :hugs:

Teeny - Happy one month to Nellie! :D

Karli - I hope you hear back from the docs soon, it's horrible watching them struggle and not be able to help :hugs: I would call back tomorrow if you haven't heard, sometimes they need chasing up.

Health visitor came by today and said we should go back to the gp for DD's reflux so they can give her gavison but she already has issues with constipation :dohh:

DD now weighs 10lb 9oz which is crazy to me, DS was just under that at 8 weeks :haha:

pixie are you in a sure start catchment area?? if so they might be able to help. my one has a behaviour specialist that I've had a few 1:1 meetings with re ds. It has given me tips for dealing with challenging behavior.

Georgia Lauren was 10lb a few days and it had taken her 10 days to gain 4oz so I think your G must be bigger than her now. That's brilliant!

Very busy here because I'm staying at my sister's and went to London with the kids today!

Squig I meant to reply this earlier but forgot! H does let me put her down a bit now unless she is sleepy and needs to be helped fall asleep. I like cuddling though so I hold her almost all day and just eat quickly, shower, etc during the times she's content by herself. I've given up on naps not in my lap because she just doesn't take to crib naps well right now. I just have to hold my pee in as best I can! Lol. I also let housework go as my husband is fine with taking care of it when he gets home. I've been much more relaxed and things are less stressful.

Make the most of the cuddles :) sometimes I just have to put Róise down so I can pee! But in the last few days, she's been more amenable to that & even settled herself in her crib these past two nights - she has taken a dummy for a short time which has helped her. So maybe Hannah will soon too - I forget exactly how old she is now? Each day brings so many changes.

Pixie I meant to reply - Joey's suggestion re SureStart is a really good one. & could your GP not refer you to a behavioural psychologist or something?

Róise has been so sleepy today. I'm pretty sure it's just her growth spurt given the feeding & there are no other worrying indicators, but it's so strange to have been able to get some things done instead of nursing a baby all day! I don't want her to keep sleeping all the time, but if she did tomorrow too I could really get a few more things sorted; ;) does sleepiness during a growth spurt sound normal to those of you who have been through this before?

Squig, she's 8 weeks today!
How's your abdomen been feeling lately? Mine still hurts and doesn't feel right. I was hoping to be more back to normal by now since the recovery time for a c section is apparently 8 weeks. It's definitely much better; I just feel like there's a ways to go.

I missed your reply sorry, thank you :) I think we're going to try something similar.

Róise is 8+5 today & we've had better sleep the last 3 nights so maybe in a day or two, there will be a turnaround for you!

I've healed well. The stitches were causing me occasional discomfort but the last of them finally came out last week. Otherwise fine although I seem to have completely lost sensation in a small part of my tummy beside my scar & it's totally numb. My biggest struggle is trying to lose the pregnancy weight as most of my clothes don't fit. The scales go up very easily for me but less easily down, despite all the effort I'm making!

Squig I'm not sure that numbness will ever go away. I've got a strip a few inches thick that goes all the way across my stomach above the scar, it's been numb for 4.5 years and hasn't changed at all :-/

I think we're going to try the sticker chart again. A paw patrol toy might be enough to make him think twice. Worth a try!

The sure start is running the parenting course, so i'll see if theres anything else i can do to get help while im there. I'm going to film him when he has a meltdown so I can explain better. It's like he gets completely vacant. He can't make eye contact or focus long enough to hear a simple instruction or respond. Yesterday he repeated a phrase over and over all day in the middle of talking, while he was playing or eating his dinner etc like he can't control it.

Yesterday was better! We took Georgie up and had a race to take our medicine (which he obviously won lol) I gave him a sniff of Georgia's abidec and suddenly his didn't seem so bad :haha: It took a lot of deep breaths to get through the day but there were no rages or meltdowns all day. I'm taking the win!

Vanilla I'm sorry about the reflux :-( could they giver her something else instead? Is it ranitadine or something? Poor little lady :hugs:

Pixie, we bought the little ones panini sticker books. DD has the paw patrol one. They earn stickers for good behaviour. They love finding the numbers in the books and filling up the pages. May be worth a try. Xx

Pixie how is Xander getting on at school? Did they have any suggestions? Repetition of phrases is common in children but if it seems like he can't control it, have you looked at tourettes in children? They often suffer from impulse control which looks like bad behaviour too. Obviously I've no idea if it's relevant but I just thought I'd mention I've seen it.
