Would you let your 2/3/4 year old watch jurassic park? One of my friends put on jurassic park for our children, mine are 2 and 3, hers are 3 and 4.
I think it's completely inappropriate, but apparantly her kids love it and watch it all the time.
I was really shocked by this and asked a differet circle of mums what they thought (each one has a 3 year old). Every one of them thought it was OK, some said their child had already watched it. One said to me that her child "liked adult things".
I actually find this really disturbing that people let such young children watch people being killed and dismembered.

I voted no. I have had many massive arguments with my OH about this exact thing. I think it's outrageously inappropriate, he thinks it's fine. My LO has seen the scenes where everything is happy and the dinosaurs are wandering around at the start and that's it, I made him turn it off before it got violent. I don't think it's okay for kids to watch adult content, but my OH has shown him Star Wars and a number of other things despite my opinion. Argh!

It's definitely wrong to put that kind of thing on for other people's kids!

Na I wouldn't. Adult things could cover a huge number of things but I'd rather the kids suffered Eastenders than Jurassic park lol

No way! Mine can watch Andy's Dinosaur's adventure which is appropriate for their age. Jurassic Park is way too scary!

No way, I wouldn't want either of mine watching it. I think she's out of order putting that on without even asking you.

We took my LO to the drive-in when the latest Jurassic Park came out. The first two movies were kids movies. We figured she'd be asleep by the time Jurassic Park came on at after 11pm, but nope, she stayed up. She thought the movie was great. :haha:

I wouldn't specifically put it on for her but I'm admittedly pretty relaxed when it comes to, well, most things.

If it came to someone else's kid though I definitely wouldn't put anything potentially scary on without asking the parents first.

I wouldn't. My 5 year old is dinosaur mad and has asked me a few times when he'll be old enough to watch jurassic park and jurassic world as a few of his friends have seen them but I think he's too young and I'm pretty sure he'd find them too scary.

I wouldn't. I think it would give our 3 year old nightmares. It isnt as heavy as some things but still too scary for her.

Nope. My dd is 3 and I think she's much too young. I'd be upset if someone else put something like that on for her to watch without asking me.

Exactly this! OH has shown him bits but I put my foot down and made him switch it off before it got gory, but OH let him watch some of the Star Wars films which he said would be ok as they are a U certificate.. Then Micah told me his favourite bit of episode one was when "Darth Maul gets chopped in half". :dohh:

I hadn't seen them before and was annoyed that OH thought that was appropriate viewing for a 3yo, but it is a bit late now as Micah adores the series. I've just made it very clear that he may only watch the 4 that are Us.

I would for my children but definitely not for other people's children. My 4 year has watched Jurassic Park for ages and loves Jurassic World but its my choice to let him watch them and I'd never make that assumption for other parents even if we were close friends, and that applies to all grown up films not just JP

I voted yes. My Eldest watched jurassic park for the first time around 3.5 and loved it. She soon watched the rest, and as soon as Jurassic world was available to download on Sky, I got that for her.

Ella (almost 3) has watched it too, although she wont sit for the whole thing in one go, and she loves it too. They dont find it scary at all.

Jurassic park series and the Maze Runner are Paiges favourite films by a mile (and the Maze runner is way scarier!)

Definitely not. There are so many lovely children's films I can't see why you would put one like that on for them. My eldest is the type of child that would worry and have nightmares

I was about 11 when Jurassic park first came out. My mum wouldn't let me see it, it was a 12 certificate at the cinema! Needles to say I was not impressed by her desicion:haha:

I would never put something like that on for someone else's children without express parental permission. My 3yo wouldn't sit through it and dislikes loud noises, so she'd hate it anyway.

I would have to say no, it's not age appropriate and I don't particularly understand why a child in that age range needs to see it.

This is what I don't understand either, why would anyone choose an adult film when there are hundreds of child ones out there.
If we want to watch a film as a family we watch something like ice age or if me and my husband wanted to watch an adult film while the kids were still up we'd chose a comedy.
A few of my friends said it didn't faze their child, I just cant get my mind around children watching people being killed and having no emotions.

Slightly OT but does anyone know why some films (like Star Wars episode one) seem to get away with a lot of violence but still be classed as a U certificate?

I can imagine because it's a fantasy film. Classifications really depends on the themes, the degree of violence, even if it's only implied can cause a higher rating, swearing, sex...

A lot of films that are released will tone down a lot of the above so that they can be watched by a wider range and get more money, still means more children are getting desensitize and that to me is worrying.

Its not really an adult film though. If that were the case it would be a 15 or above. It is a PG, which means parental guidance... And I watched the films and knew my child would be fine with them. She knows that they are not real, and was not bothered in the slightest that people were eaten etc in them, she just finds it fascinating and likes to talk about the films etc.
Put on Ice Age, Finding Nemo oetc and my lot wont sit for 5 minutes, and I don't blame them *hides in the corner*

^ that actually might be making the point about being desensitised?
I freely admit that I am an utter wuss and I am sure some ppl have less sensitivity to such things from birth but I remember this scene from Jurassic park where these apparently clever Velociraptors tried to break into lab where these kids were hiding and I remember thinking it very scary indeed. And I was an adult at the time! No way are my boys going to watch this at their age!
As for Finding Nemo, weird how tastes are so different, that is my all time favourite animated movie, hands down.
