To me, that is maybe a sign of a liar????

He stopped all eye contact and looked to the floor too when he said that and rubbed his ear.

If you watch him in most of his interviews, he rubs his ear or scratches just behind it when he gets questioned on something he's uncomfortable with. At first it may have been a sign of nerves, but after 4 years and countless interviews you wouldn't think he'd be shy of the camera now????

I've read this entire thread, and I've gone from thinking they were just neglectful, to thinking they did it, and now I'm not sure what to think :/

I just don't see where they could have hidden the body. If she did have an accident and it wasn't pre-meditated, how would they have found somewhere to hide the body? I've seen theories such as in underground tunnels, but they hadn't been there before so how could they know there were tunnels underground?

Another theory is that they dumped her body out to sea, the only way this would be possible really, is for them to hire a boat and go into the ocean, if they did this then the boat hire people would be witnesses? The would need to do it in the dark and wouldn't that be suspicious?

As for just chucking her into the sea, that wouldn't work because her body would drift right back in again.

I'm just thinking out loud here sorry.

I've always thought the church to be honest - and then somewhere between there and Huelva (when all attention was on sightings in Malta rather than the McCanns themselves).

It's just speculation of course - but it fits in with the cadaver smell in the car boot, which immediate dumping at sea wouldn't explain.

But where did they put the body before they put it in the Church? And why would they be so confidant no-one would enter the Church where the body was kept? And they couldn't just hide it because it would smell.

I just went in to kiss Grace goodnight and it made me think "how on earth could you chop up the body of your own child?" I hope to God that that really is just over the top speculation. To cover up all of this is bad enough. But to go and do that on top of it is just too sick to comprehend

Another poster made a comment about Kate always looking at Gerry when she spoke. I don't know about anyone else but to me that is what we would do when we are lying. We unknowingly look at the person involved when 'lying' for reassurance. So we covertly do this for confirmation that we are saying the right thing. I know I've done this when I've fibbed as a child

Well I think they could have hid her temporarily at the beach (hence man running off with a little girl towards the beach)

AB I really dont think that would of happened, I really hope not.

I dont know it could be she looks at him for reassurance because she is shy and unsure of herself, it has been said before about her, or it could be he is quite controlling so she is making sure she is saying the right thing.

I honestly don't think we will ever know ... I'd love to think otherwise but short of a deathbed confession or someone completely losing it, I just can't see it

They all have too much to lose and the existing evidence is too tenuous to support a court case. Even if Madeleine's body were to be found it's unlikely to prove anything ... any DNA from her parents would be explainable, cause of death would likely be difficult to prove - and even if it was, there would be no way of telling just who caused it, even if - like now - there was no evidence of an abductor

Since this thread started, I have begun to believe Gerry is the frontman in this whole thing. The way Kate seems to lean on him for reassurance and how he appears to control everything on top of the fact that everytime I see her being interviewed, Kate looks like she is desperate to tell someone the truth and it's eating her up inside, it just all points to him having a part in something he's had to come up with an elaborate lie for

Yeah, and where at the beach? You'd have to know the area fairly well to find a spot that no-one would go to. And it would take a long time to bury a body deep enough for it not to be spotted.

TM, I think I agree, I really wish we would find out though. I sorta believe in people no resting in peace until the unfinished business is sorted (I know that seems stupid but Kaysie use to see Honey all the time, but we finished her court case and now Kaysie says she doesnt see her any more and misses her coming to play), so maybe if Maddie isnt alive then she cant rest in peace

I went to Portugal last year, a place called Praia da rocha, which is half hour away from where Maddie was taken and is very close to Portimo which is where the McCann's were questioned. Any way there are lots of caves and things in the cliffs, some have even turned into tunnels

Ah interesting. See that was my first thought when I discovered the Smith sighting. He probably hid her in something like that he discovered on the beach. Also looked up Praia da rocha looks lovely
