living with kids with allergies group

Not all of them do, i work in one and trust me ive asked everyone
Handy thing though, i get to check the product info guides for places like the instore bakery to find something Alex can have :D
No Iphone here but i do have ipod touch so will still get the app, thankyou!

I've been eating ketchup all along! Just checked and Heinz doesn't contain any dairy. Phew.

AG-:rofl:They must like me lol:haha::haha:

I find the cheap ketchup is fine it's the expensive stuff that contains dairy.
Another thing to look out for walkers crisp changed there recipe and they now contain dairy apart from ready salted.

If anybody is interested I brought Adi some bands from here they are called Medi-bands to alert about allergies.

How is everyone today?
Im having a frustrating day where i just wish there was a clear answer to what Alex is allergic to!

I havent yet determined for sure if he can tollerate peas or not as he hasnt really eaten much to see, he has a little rash come up on his forehead but i cant remember if it was there before he ate or not :dohh:

Were at Yorkhill tomorrow for a checkup and i dread seeing the consultant now. Nothing he tells us ever seems to work and i really want to stop using steroid creams on his face!

Arcanegirl I so hope you get answers soon, we are only 5 months into the journey and already frustrated, goodness knows what it feels like too be almost 2 years in :(

We saw the health visitor today who had prescribed yet another cream too try, it's called Hydromol ointment and can be used as an emollient, as a bath additive and also as a bath soap, she also wants us too go too the dr to ask about getting referred to a dermatologist. She said she rang the Dr's surgery the other day after I rang her about the horrible dr, she complained about him too :)

Last night I had too bandage little mans leg for bed, the skin behind his knee had broken down and was bleeding, I had too put a light dressing on it and bandage it too stop it rubbing on his clothing, my poor baby :(

I am also getting very upset about his nappies, I LOVE our cloth nappy's, but regardless of what fabrics I am using against his skin he is getting so sore with Eczema patches, he has them all along where the top of his nappy lays and them in his groins and right at the base of his winkie, it calms down a little when I revert back too sposies but I don't want too use sposies, I love our cloth too much :(

Would you be willing to go part time? We had to for the same reasons, though it was more the onvernight ones that Alexs skin couldnt cope with. After the first couple weeks of using cloth in the day and sposies at night weve been able to go to cloth overnight 5/6 days out of 7 and his bum looks much better!

We got prescribed Hydromol aswell but i chose not to use it because it contains SLS, we use emulsifying ointment which is one of the indredients in hydromol.
We do however use hydromol bath oil.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, the chemical thats the issue in Aqueous cream

Hi girls!

I think I should join this thread!

I skimmed through the previous pages, I am not sure Katerina has got any allergies as such but definitely intolerances!

Here is our story. First sign smt was wrong, which we and doctors ignored is when she was 1 week old sh ewas re-admitted for very high jaundice. The next day I went in to see her they had given her formula as a top up (I was expressing and giving it to them as they wouldn't let me breastfeed!!) and they said smt is wrong iwth her intestine so she was put on antibiotics and the drip and they stopped feeding her. Anyway to cut long story short they said she had enterococus but our paed was convinced she had a reaction to the milk.

Anyway... at about 4 months she started having terrible tummy aches, couldn't sleep at night, she would wake up every 30 min and got very fussy. That's when we realised she also suffered from silent reflux. Doc said that she is probably intolerant to the protein of the milk and gave her nutramigen. She soon settled down so we were happy. IN the mean time a couple of times I noticed a rash on her face, it wasn't too bad and always clear up a couple of days later, so not sure if this is realted?

Anyway, 2 months ago she had a cold and an ear infection and every went downhill again. Got referred to a specialist 10 days ago who said its get gut (she had the same symptoms). He said that if she has an intolerance a cold/infection could have made it all worse and it takes up to 6 weeks to clear up. He gave us some tablets for allergies and steroids for a few days as she had been unwell for so long and changed her milk to Neocate. We saw an instant improvement.

We went back today, he said to wait it out for 3 more weeks as it takes 6 weeks for full effect. I asked what kind of foods to avoid and he said fruits are tricky to digest sometimes because of their sugars and he said all dairy products and definitely wheat! That's seems quite a lot! I am not even sure what products contain wheat!

Its all a bit confusing for the time being! Any thoughts will be very welcome!

I can help with the wheat free diet if you have any questions. xx

Thats alot of foods to avoid! Where did they get their assumption of a wheat allergy from?

Since she reacted to formula, an allergy to dairy could be likely though im confused where they think fruits and wheat

Thanks for the replies. I am actually for a RAST test for milk allergy that i had done through the NHS.

As for the rest, he didn't say she is allergic to fruit but he said they sometimes are hard to digest due to their sugars? As for wheat I am really not sure!! I should have asked!! I was just busy making sure I remember everything!! :dohh:

24/7 if you could give me some pointers as to what I need to avoid for wheat that would be great!

I wish they would just test her for allergies so I know what's going on. But he said its not going to change anything even if we do.

PS do you think that the few rashes on her face that she had in the past could be due to a reaction?

I'll try and keep it brief, but it's not easy. :haha:

I swap all pasta and bread for GF versions, and they are ok - I prefer sainsburys own twirls pasta and genius bread.

All plain meat, fish, fruit and vegetables are fine, and we have alot of just meat/fish potato and vegetable meals. Tinned tuna and salmon are also things I rely on quite alot for sandwiches.

Eggs are fine for both dairy and wheat free diets.

Goodies crisps in the tomato flavour are DF and WF if she likes little treats.

Errr, avoid post ready made sauces and soups etc, however Covent Garden tomato and basil is free from everything. Baked beans are fine, and their is a free from tinned spagetti too. All biscuits I buy from Sainsburys, and they aren't too bad, and choc buttons too. Mainly I make my own cakes/cookies though, and just buy a substitute flour - Doves farm.

Potato waffles I buy from Tescos. I make all my own chips, wedges, roasts etc just with extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of pepper.

I do struggle abit with breakfast, but their is some spelt porridge I've seen in sainsburys, but usually I have rice puffs, which taste abit odd, and smell vile, but fill the hole. Otherwise I make things like eggs on toast and pancakes with dairy free milk and doves farm flour.

Hope I haven't focused too much on junky food, but I know when I struggle with symptoms sometimes I just want a nibble not a meal, and for a long time I struggled just eating anything, so it was all a bonus.

I'll keep thinking. xx

I always have funny rashes when I get things wrong with my diet, so it most definately could be. xx

Alex's biggest complaint with allergies is his facial rash, so id say yes its likely the cause

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this for me. It is very useful!!!

I really appreciate it! It musre be really hard to constantly have to think what you can/can't eat. Do you ever get used to it? :hugs:

Yea you get used to it :) Were still getting used to dairy and soya free but ive found going back to basic foods is helping and not stressing too much about making sure foods are healthy
