living with kids with allergies group

I use Stanley's emollient (cetraben) on cotton wool to clean his skin after eating. Maybe you could try that with whatever you use on his eczema. Or vaseline or olive oil, anything that will moisturise the skin rather than contributing to the dryness. Would that work?

I intend to ask for
- a week's supply of hydrolysed formula to see if his eczema clears (it disappeared in 24hrs when we stopped milk before the soy reaction kicked in)
- referral to an allergy specialist or paediatric dietician or somebody to tell me what the heck to feed him
- antihistamines to stop him itching at night

Well, the GP was totally clueless, wanted me to stick with soya until dermatology appt on 24th June! Stanley has awful rash all over body and I told him I am not prepared to carry on causing this. Had to explain to him about hydrolysed formula and show him my internet facts! He phond paediatric doctor, who advised him to prescribe Nutramigen 2, a suitable antihistamine and to refer us urgently to a dietitcian for weaning advice. So I am very relieved.

Stanley only took 3 or 4 oz of the Nutramigen before bed. Am going to give him it for his usual dreamfeed and give him a couple of oz if he wakes in the night. Don't really want to mix with the soya if we don't have to but ti does smell and taste terrible, like cheesy feet :X He's had antihistamine so might not even wake, hopefully he'll be more comfortable tonight.

Thank you so much again for all your help and support. I wouldn't have had a clue what to ask for without your help!

:hugs:

Hi girls  i've not been in here for ages!!

Update on maxies milk allergy... last two days hes been having little bits of food with milk in and cheese and hes been.... FINE!!!

:happydance: praying its not fluke and we have finally gotten rid of this allergy! so so happy xx

great news Sarah, he is hitting the age where they say they can start growing out of it so fingers crossed!

Yep!! We have trying 2 times so far at different times with no luck but this time seems to be different! Im just so excited. Imagine.. a life with no worrying about food, no checking packets, no being difficult when we eat out :haha: xx

I long for that day! lol

I long for the day I can eat chocolate & cheese never mind Little Man eat dairy lol

 Always a bonus ;)!

The thing i cant wait (touch wood) to do is when you go out , just not worrying about being caught out or cut short. EG snacks and things... or in emergencies your not in a panic as to what to feed them! x

Thats great sarah, i long for that day but cant see it anytime soon:( hopefully one day though

Thats great news Sarah!
I think we all long for a day like that, fingers crossed we all get it someday :)

Weve found out Alex is also allergic to strawberries!

how are we all?

quick question

since last night Little Man has been having Tixylix for his cough, well his cough is alot better however his skin has gone all sore & red under his chin again ...... the only different thing he has had is the tixylix ....... is it possible that has caused a skin reaction???

Depends whats in it i guess? Alex tends to break out when he has colds, viral bugs etc because his immune system is working harder.

ahhhh could be that then, he is just getting over his first ever cough & cold ..... double whammy!

Aww bless him, i hope he feels better soon. Connors gor a chest infection so is on that banana flavour penicillin and i want it lol probably not a good idea when im allergic

hi peoples, tis little me again. Sorry I don't read much ofd the thread as I'm so busy lately with one thing or another. My daughter finally got the all clear on her retinoblastoma! So now her next hospital trip will be for a new implant. But anyways, because of her eye/cancer issues we keep a close eye on vincent's eyes and lately he has a really bad eye rolling tic which looks a bit like a seizure... only it isn't we hope.

Went to the docs with him this morning but totally useless, she didn't seem to know anything and said come back in 2 weeks. So I came home and did some googling *sigh*

Apparently allergies can also cause this eye rolling thing, especially milk. I was sosure I'd got rid of it all though. Just wondering if anyone else had seen/heard anything of this sort before. I'll just be trying to get a video of it on myphone for the Pediatrician we are being referred to.

Im so glad about your daughter thats great news.

I havent heard anything about milk allergy affecting the eyes but all connors problems have been with his stomach. I hope you manage to find out more from the paediatrician

Does it say anythnig in the leaflet about the ingredients and side effects? I only ask because I noticed on Stanley's antihistamine that a side effect can be itching and rash (!).

The cough wouldn't be making him more dribbly would it? We have problems with Stanley's chin and neck getting really sore. Although it's not directly linked to dribble, I find it gets much worse if we don't keep on top of keeping his chin dry. It's a nightmare.

Hope your little man's cough and chin clear up soon.

We are supposed to be seeing a dietician about weaning - meanwhile I'm really stuck about what to feed Stanley. I don't want to toally withdraw food as he's got used to having 3 meals a day. However, paediatric doctor advised only fruit and veg for now until we see someone.

Recently we've had a few suspect reactions with pears, apples and peaches so I am laying off the fruit for now. What can I give him for breakfast? Baby rice with Nutramigen just seems too disgusting! Could I mix baby rice with water?

We are avoiding gluten, protein and any other common allergens, and obviously no dairy or soy. Root veg and potatoes for lunch and dinner seem to be going down ok but I just can't get my head around breakfast! Any ideas, or shall I just give him root veg again? Might try him with banana tomorrow, seems a different kind of fruit to the ones causing him problems. All suggestions welcome :flower:

How about gluten-free oats? U can use water instead of milk to make it?
