living with kids with allergies group

Little Man has lost weight :( he only gained 8 oz in 6 weeks and now in 2 weeks he has lost 4 oz, I dunno what too do and he seems too be dropping down on his chart (he was one almost at the 75th line and now he in below the 25th and falling :() I know they are meant to level off when they become more active but are they meant to start losing weight too?

I'm sorry he's lost weight. If you are concerned maybe you could speak to your GP about it? Is there anything in his eating habits that worries you? :hugs:

Arlo: Dairy and soya allergy

I know you are meant to test the allergies every now and again, but what is the best thing to test LO with? I've never given him dairy to eat, I know it affects him through my breastmilk so it's likely to cause a reaction if he eats dairy himself. I've heard yogurt might be the best thing to try? I'd be interested to hear what others have done when testing a dairy allergy.

I tried Alex with cheese, something strong enough to see a definate reaction or not

I tried connor with soya yogurt thats what the diatician said and then if he didnt have a reaction to try cheese or a small drink of normal milk but i didnt get that far because he had a reaction to soya

Connors a bugger for losing weight, most of the time he puts some on and then by time we get him weighed again hes lost loads. Have you got a diatician? Id maybe ask them if theres anything you can do to help him gain weight. At one point we were told to give him meals small and regular instead of 3 normal meals

we do have a dietician and Last time I saw her (at 6 months) I said I would like too see her again when he is 8 months as he should hopefully be eating more by then, I haven't heard from her though, might have too ring and chase that up

He has always changed clothes pretty much in line with their age range, but his 6-9 month stuff is still plenty big enough for him and his trousers actually fall off him unless he is wearing cloth nappies too hold them up, otherwise he is back in 3-6 month trousers :(

Cheese is the thing that affects him most through my breast milk. Bit scared to give him some to eat, but I guess I have to if I want to know for sure.

Little man had

Breastfast - shreddies with oatly
lunch - toast with pure spread, cherries, a plum humZinger & cucumber
Dinner - Spag bol & apple

Katerina had:

Oats for breakfast
Turkey with courgettes, carrots and potatoes for lunch and dinner.
Two carrot sticks as a snack which she has never tried before but I realised there is nothing in them so I'm hoping she'll be ok!

Breakfast : cornflakes
Dinner : fish finger sandwhiches
Tea: spag bol

Arlo had...

Breakfast: porridge oats with Kara coconut milk
Lunch: roast chicken with veg and gravy (pureed), melon slices
Tea: More roast purée and an Ella's kitchen green beans, raisins and apples pouch.

Thank you for the warm welcome ladies! :)

Abi was at nursery today so had

Cornflakes made with nutramigen

Roast chicken, roast pots, stuffing, green beans and gravy
Jelly with fruit and soya ice cream

Salmon pasta salad with cucumber and wholemeal bread and butter with soya spread
Butterfly cake made with dairy free Marg.

I think I'm quite lucky as there are a few children there with allergies so it's all been quite easy for them.

Hi Sara! Welcome to this group, the ladies here have been so helpful to me so I am glad you found us...

It's interesting that you gave up breastfeeding because of lack of information / support with eliminating foods from your diet. I was the same - had an inkling that Stanley had a food allergy but every time I mentioned it the HV and GPs said it was unlikely, and never once suggested I try cutting out dairy. I was not confident to do it on my own because I worried about it affecting my milk. I so wish now I'd just tried it, rather than giving up. Stanley's on Nutramigen too, he was getting really bad eczema which is now gradually improving. We have been referred to a dietician (no appt yet) and a dermatologist (end June) so like you we are still waiting for answers. Frustrating, isn't it!

Arcane Girl - great idea about putting the allergies up on the front page. Thank you! Stanley's got a dairy and soy allergy. (We are also avoiding gluten / protein / nuts and other common allergens until we've seen the specialist. So he's basically on fruit and veg with a few low-risk bits and pieces!)

And finally... what he ate today:
Breakfast: daddy stole his banana :dohh: so he had baby rice with Oatly mixed with half an Ella's kitchen strawberry and apple pouch (no reaction, great news!!)
Lunch: sweet potato, rice cake
Dinner: parsnip and potato mash

That's all - hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine x

OH gave Alex baked beans, one of the items on his allergen list :dohh:

think Little Man is allergic/sensitive too tomatos :(

He's has them before and had bad tummy cramps, so tried again today too check and again he has had tummy cramps :(

Edit too add .... I do think it is just pure tomato (passata or tinned tomatoes) because he seems ok with baked beans, although he did also get tummy cramps when he had the tomato organix snacks

This is probably a silly question but is cows milk protein allergy different to dairy? :dohh:

Oh and I forgot to add apart from her allergies which are not many so far we were told to not give her wheat as her gut wouldn't tolerate it and she seems very sensitive with fruit. But will start checking her with food next week if she is still better!
