Lovely Ladies TTC

PurpleIvy thanks for asking. I'm planning to go to the doctor in January when we have insurance.
( Although insurance doesn't cover anything until we pay $5000 deductible)
The PCOS is self-diagnosed, though blood tests this week that I paid for privately show I have insulin resistance; so I definitely have one or the other.
I'm sure that the doctor will end up prescribing metformin and am looking forward to that helping a lot! I want a BFP in 2013!

So after geting very very faint lines yesterday decided to take a clearblue digi it says "pregnant 1-2" yay got my :bfp:
Really nervous after what happened in october stick baby stick x

Minuet I'm so sorry you are still waiting. This is going to sound a bit flip and I don't mean it to, but my MIL always said if you want to bring on a period, have a really hot bath, a few drinks and an orgasm!! Not sure in which order....but anything is worth a try?! I also read that parsley tea can help, you just get fresh parsley, boil a kettle and pour over the leaves like you would a normal tea, leave it for a few mins then fish out the leaves and drink. Have no idea what it tastes like!

The doc basically said there wasn't enough evidence that any of these things help when you don't know the cause of your previous miscarriages. It's likely progesterone wasn't an issue before because I made it to 10 and 12 weeks, but I did feel like it can't hurt surely, so wouldn't it be worth trying? But she just said what they've all said before, which is to try not to worry (!) then if it happens again I'll get a load of tests done, then the next time I'm pregnant they can prescribe me anything if the tests show I need it.

I guess I just find it unacceptable that the doctor is basically saying ' we won't do anything until you've had three miscarriages'. Like really?
If they don't know the cause shouldn't they at least test hormone levels so see where they are at?
It just seems rather haphazard, and I'm all for pushing doctors to do what they should. Trying to be an advocate for you here. :)

Yep I've read about the parsley tea before, but am not quite yet willing to try that haha. Will try the cream again if my temp doesn't keep going up.
Thanks for your input/suggestions. :)

Yeah I know. It would be different if we were able to pay for private treatment, but we can't, and over here they don't seem to offer things like HCG or progesterone tests as standard on the NHS. She did say if I was worried or had any bleeding then to come back and we would discuss options. I am a great supporter of the NHS and I realise it has its limits, but yeah I do think their attitude to miscarriage and pregnancies after a loss could be improved. My consultant told me that even after 3 losses, 80% of the time tests don't even discover an answer though.

Yay Hope, congratulations!! :happydance:

Smiler- After my loss in Sept. the doctor told me the same thing, that they would wait for 3 losses before doing any testing. Because chemical pregnancies are more common that we'd like to think and b/c so many things could cause an early miscarriage they have to wait for more instances. I just really sucks! I'm doing good, just waiting for Tuesday.... :)

Minuet- I hope you get put on it and it works for you. I think I'm board line insulin resistant. I kind of remember her saying something to that effect after my blood work in 2009. The Dr. said she diagnosed me based upon my symptoms, which I think I had all of them so that makes sense. You'll definitely want to know what you're insurance covers b/c getting slapped with a large bill will suck. So far I've only paid my $15 office visit copay and all my blood work & ultra sounds have been covered. I just need to call them to find out the rest of my OB coverage is. I just re-read your post, you have a $5,000 deductible!? Do you mean $500? If not, I'm very sorry that's got to be really tough.

I just found out my SIL is pregnant with her 3rd! She just got a positive pregnancy test and I haven't told any family yet so they don't know but she'll be due a month after me. Yay.

Congrats to your SIL :)

If you're borderline insulin resistant you might want to get them to check again, because if you are you need to treat it in some way. Otherwise it will get progressively worse and can lead to diabetes, heart disease and worse.

Yeah, it's a $5,000 deductible. We're paying out of pocket for insurance, and that was one of the best options out there. It's $2500 per person/ $5000 a family.
Although today our application was denied because my husband had cancer this year, so now I have to find another insurance which will be worse.
Basically with that high of deductible all insurance is good for is calamities, as our routine health care won't add up to that high - I hope - and it doesn't cover ANYthing related to maternity.

Yes, that's one of the questions I'm going to ask Tuesday. My blood work in October came back normal but I'm not sure if they were checking for that. I think that was partly why she put me on the Metformin too, I think it's suppose to help with regulating the blood sugar. The medicine is really cheap, I pay $.87/mo but think the out of pocket cost is under $5 so it's pretty affordable.

Gosh that's such a bummer about the insurance and sorry to hear about your husband, it makes it that much harder I'm sure. I was thinking the same thing, that I don't think I've ever used $5,000 worth of insurance in a year but it'll help if you're in a accident or something. I know when I was between jobs and my husband was in school we went without coverage and when I tried to call independent companies they never called me back. I hope you're able to find something that works for you.

Hope! OMG! We posted at the same time yesterday so I only just saw!! Congratulations!! We must be almost identical in dates :)

OMG Hope I am soooo happy for you!!!! :D YAY! You really deserve this girly :)

Hope all are well - not been on much at all so sorry about that :/ Good luck to those still trying...have I missed anymore news??

AFM: I am doing OK...still cautiously pregnant (8 weeks today) and suffering with sickness (WOOHOO!!) I never appreciated how awful ms is before last week!! Hahaha...well I am certainly clued up now!! lol...not as bad today though...I will take the short respites when I can get them :D

Hope - Of course, stay here as long as you'd like (even through your pregnancy)! It's so nice to hear updates from everybody!

Carlywarly - it sounds terrible, but - great to hear that you are experiencing some reassuring symptoms! :)

Smiler82 - how are things??

AFM - back from Vegas and 8dpo with no symptoms whatsoever. Temps have been going crazy, which I attribute to flying around/stupid time changes. Not sure if/when I'm going to test. Having another Christmas party tonight (it seems neverending...) and as far as I know the host has organized somebody to come in and do a wine tasting, ugh :dohh::dohh:
