march lambs 2010 come on ladies

Welcome April!

Hivechild: Please excuse my ignorance but what is BLW? Could I start giving my son rice and meat too?

Baby Led Weaning. In a nutshell, it means just offering whatever food you eat at meal times and letting them feed themselves so you don't spoon feed them or puree anything up to feed them.

You can certainly start giving your LO rice and meat at this point! I'm assuming you're doing traditional weaning (TW) with purees etc. so prepare it however you feel comfortable doing it, but he's old enough now that you can give him finger foods/not pureed.

The sooner he starts with finger foods that he's holding and managing on his own the better for him. The gag reflex in babies is further forward in their mouths than it is for adults to minimize the chances of them choking (ie: they'll gag and bring the food forward again to either spit out or chew before it is far enough back to pose a risk of choking), but from 6 months onward it will slowly start to move back.

Good luck with it! I love seeing Ronan trying new foods.

Oh, and April, I'm glad to hear that you're doing much better now. They really are a lot of fun at this age (when they're not running you off your feet), aren't they?

GL - I haven't let M go forward facing yet. Her pram is very open so she can see out really well and doesn't seem bothered about facing me :hehe: I know we're going to start getting the 'when are you going to stop BF?' questions soon as M is nearing 6 months, but I'm totally not ready to stop, even if she would take a bottle. It would be nice to have the option to give EBM every once in a while though :dohh:

Steffi - well done to Gavin for pulling himself up! The fun really begins! Lol. I'm doing BLW and M usually has chunks of pear, peach, cucumber, sweet potato, melon, rusks, rice cakes with things spread on, yogurt (I half help her!) and I keep trying broccoli, but she hates the feel of it :dohh:

JJ - cute pic! M isn't too keen on water in her face which is why I want to start dunking. I grew to HATE bath time when I was younger because I hated water in my face (still dont like water in my face now!)

Hi April  Jaxon is adorable, and what a lovely name x

HC - She's fine with yogurt, haven't tried her on cheese or anything yet. Hopefully she'll be ok with nuts, but I'm scared to try her when she's older just in case! She's trying kiwi fruit at the mo- seems to like it but is preferring the melon. I do love BLW! Going to brave it and try pasta soon.

Julchen - that sounds to scary! :hugs: to you both x

we are doing a mix of blw and traditional as we felt he wasnt getting enough just with blw that he was actually swallowing and he definatly is needing something that takes a bit longer to digest lol, we did porriage for breakfast again this morning and he ate quite a bit and i had to give him a spoon as he was trying to take it out of my hand but it would have gone everywhere had i let him try to feed himself lol, gonna do some finger foods at lunch though and probably fruit tonight before bed lol. hes loving it.

welcome April, Jaxon is soooo cute

Lynn - I imagine EJ does need proper food - he's a big boy to sustain on milk!

M is whingey this morning so I've booked the GP appointment for 12pm. She felt a bit warm so I took her temp and it was 38.4 - I thought it was a bit high so checked the master that is Google, and apparently over 38 is classed as fever?! I thought 39 was. Eeek! Glad I checked and I'm glad I've booked the appointment - OH scoffed at me and said I was being over cautious. Men!

:hi: hiiii!

I've been so busy but will have a catch up tomorrow. I've missed you ladies

:hugs:

xx

no your not being overcautious hun in a child under 4 i think 38 is classified as something you need to be concernd about and you should give some age appropriate pracetamol ie..calpol 2mth+ to bring down the fever.

EJ's just had lunch which was tomato with the seeds taken out in slices and avacodo and pear mash on ricecakes and he looks like hes enjoyed it

April Hi hun, welcome, Jaxon is gorg!!

Rosy Thanks for the recipe, i love crumble so will be trying it wen i get a minute to do it

Hive I knew i had read about someones baby gettin sick after being near a sick baby but i couldn't remember who had posted and didn't have time to go back. Hopr Ronan is feeling better :hugs:

Julchen Ahh poor Sam, glad he's ok hun! What a fright for you though hun.

CocoaOne I'm exactly the same with water on my face, Chase loves splashing his hands and always soakes my face, my natural reaction is to turn my head away and shut my eyes, i just can't help it. Chase soaks his face too and it doesn't bother him at all, i dunked again today, my friend and a few others were so i did again as he's not been under for weeks. You feel really cruel but there just not really bothered.

Well i don't know if it was the massage that Chase had yesterday but he slept from 8-7 then after his feed at 7 he was flat out again until 9.30!!! Going to massage him later before bed, thats the only thing we did different yesterday, although i appreciate it could be purely coincidental. And he slept for an hour after swimming! He's turned into a sleep monster, not complaining at all.
I'm trying a bit of blw too, i'm so scared though that he'll choke. Everyone who is doing blw do you find your babies took a while to do it? Chase just isn't that bothered about feeding himself, he's quite happy for me to hold stuff though. When he does hold bits he shakes them around then usually drops them on the floor much to the dogs delight.

Well Dr was useless. Just said to avoid egg and watch for symptoms if she eats cakes/biscuits etc. Didn't check her over or take her temperature. Grrrr. I just took it and it's gone down to 37.3 so calpol doing the trick. She seems ok, just clingy and whingey. I think I'll just avoid all egg for a few months and then try something with a little bit of egg in it to see if she reacts. I'll probably do it in the hospital car park just in case!

Glad Chase enjoyed massage! I don't mean to worry you - but I think they are more likely to choke if you hold the food for them - something to do with them not having proper control over how much goes in their mouth. Just let him play/throw it for a while, M was the same but she's mastered how to hold even slippy slimey stuff now. Sometimes I'd hold the food near her mouth, let her grab it and then move my hand so she knew what she was supposed to do with the food.
Choking is scary, but they know what they are doing. M usually chokes a bit when she has toast.

Thanks Cocoa i'll keep letting just have a play until he masters it.

Ahh glad M's temperature seems to be going down hun, can't believe the Dr didn't take it or check her over! You would think they would be extra vigilent with babies.

yeah they need to explore the food and get used to holding and feeding themselves for a bit before they start acutally eating any of it lol but EJ is getting there lol he can hang on to a slipery bit of tomato or cucumber its just things like banana he still has problems holding lol but a trick mum told me is to freeze the banana in peices then give it to them and it defrosts as they suck it but doesnt get so slippery

Another trick I read was to coat slippery things in small oats, but I haven't tried it yet x

oh goodness if today isnt one where i need my husband not to have stayed 10 min over at work then i dont know what is.
I feel sick and Nate is being a brat and EJ has just woken up early hes not due up till just before 6 for his feed

Em: Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time. Sometimes being a mommy is not as enjoyable as you had imagined it would be (at least it is not how I pictured it).

Cocoa: Scary about the allergy. Hopefully she will grow out of it as eggs are in so many things. Good thing that you identified this early so you know what to avoid.

GL: Hooray for Flora getting to face out in her stroller. So many new things for her to look at.

Steffi: Gavin sounds so advanced. You are right you better get a pair of running shoes. Actually we all should, it's not going to be long before we are all chasing after our LOs. Charlotte will eat anything so I am afraid I am not very helpful as far as what foods to try. Sweeter things are way more popular than boring stuff like cereals. Bananas and sweet potatoes seem to be quite popular with Charlotte.

JJ: What a sweet photo of Chase asleep with the muslin. Hope he doesn't catch that cold. I can't believe someone would take their sick baby out around other babies.

Kel: I've been waiting on Conner's haircut photos so find that cord! Totally understand not having them take too much off. Did you at least keep a lock of his hair for the baby book? I didn't know you had a parenting journal so I will take a look and find the link to vote.

JK: Congrats on your beautiful boy.

rwhite: Thanks for the recipe!

Jul: Oh my, how scary. I hope your little guy gets some sleep and feels better. That fall must have scared him as much as it scared you.

Lynn: I never thought about freezing the bananas. I bet that would be nice during teething too. Although I have tried giving her whole bananas it always turned out so messy I just mash them. Also, ikwym about husbands staying late at work, those seem to be the days when just nothing is going right at home. Hope you feel better and get some relief from your DH.

So tonight we are going out. It's been about a month since we have gotten out and I am super excited. We are going to a casino night fundraiser. Almost like being back in Vegas. OK, maybe not. Using the same babysitter as last time. She will also be sitting for us next weekend as we are going to be gone all day to go to a football game two hours away. I want Charlotte to be able to get used to one babysitter so that she will be more comfortable with her. Mind you this time she will only be awake for two hours before it is bedtime. Next week I think it will be from noon until 10pm or so. Trying not to worry in advance about being gone so long.

Have a good weekend everyone. May your OH's be super helpful and you LO's be super happy and sleep through the night.

:hi: welcome April and Jaxon! Jackson is my hubby's name :)

Vegas - have a good night out! I love your signing off remark! I hope Flora sleeps through the night too but I doubt it!

Lynn - hope your OH comes home quickly!

Cocoa - glad to hear M's temperature has gone down. Typical uninterested doctor! He should have taken her temperature at least.

JJ - so jealous of your good night's sleep! Throw some of those sleep vibes this way. I try to massage Flora after her bath but she tends to get upset around that time, especially when I put her sleepsuit on. Every day she screams when I'm dressing her after her bath, i don't know what to do about it

Jul - hope Sam is OK after his fall :hugs: Flora fell off the sofa last week I felt so guilty!

Well, guys, Flora is 6 months old today! How time flies. I am off out tonight with a couple of friends just for a few bevvies, OH staying in with Flora (she's already in bed anyway). Here she is on her 6 month birthday:

Happy half birthday Flora! She looks so cute! M has got that toy and it's her absolute favourite.

Have fun tonight GL & Vegas x

GL - Happy 6 months Flora!
 Welcome April and Jaxon
lynn - Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sure I've missed a lot. I've been trying to keep up with reading the updates and there have been some super vids and pics of everyone's LO's.

I'm still recovering from this cold and Gabriel has not been letting me get much sleep, so I think it's taking extra time to recover than it might otherwise. Gabriel has been waking at 5am for the day the last few mornings, so I only got 4.5 hours sleep last night. At least it was all one block. He woke to eat just as I was trying to get to bed myself. It's been a long busy week at work as well. I also just found out that my period decided to return today too. Luckily, I always keep a few panty liners at work which should keep me till I get home tonight.

GL: Happy half birthday to Flora. What is that toy she has? It looks great and she seems to like it judging from her sweet smile.

Seity: Nothing like your period to catch you at a bad time. I kept a tampon in my purse even throughout my pregnancy. Not sure why, just a habit. Hope your cold hurries up and goes away so you can enjoy the weekend.

OK, time to stop procrastinating and finish cleaning the house for the babysitter. I swear if we never left her or had people over I would never clean.

Vegas - its an 'activity triangle' from the early leaning centre https://www.elc.co.uk/, my local mothercare has a whole ELC section. One of my friends told me that a toy of that sort of height is great when they're learning to sit up so I went out and bought one last week when she was still toppling over quite a lot. I think it it has really helped!

Thank you Hivechild for your explanation. Thanks to everyone else for their tips on what to feed LO.

I'd like to share the clip I took of Gavin standing today:
