We change her every time she feeds plus like a extra 2 ish so 8 ish roughly :haha:

The consultant said she had lip and tongue tie :cries: so I have to get her in to a specialist to be checked out. I feel we take one step forward breastfeeding just to take another step back. I also have a hot red knot in my breast that I'm terrified is going to turn into full blown mastitis. :nope: I'm not giving myself the option to give up yet I'm literally taking it a day at a time.

I've never really been pressured by health care workers to continue or stop. Guess I pressure myself the most because I know that breast milk is far superior to formula and everyone wants what's the best for their baby so stopping always made me feel guilty. I always had this goal of bfing until my child weaned but I always gave up first. I've always accomplished everything I've wanted to in life but this. Breastfeeding is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. I think it doesn't help that we do everything else that's "natural" so when I would be out and everyone else is bfing and I'm bottle feeding I just feel uncomfortable.

I think formula is a great alternative if you can't bf. I know it really was better for my oldest. I'm grateful it's an option and if I do stop this time I'll feel bad but overall I know she'll be just fine on formula.

Good luck daddies. Keep up the good work and hope it all falls into place for you. It is certainly way harder and more tiring than I could have ever imagined. Just trying to stay with it and hope it gets better and easier. Hope to see lactation soon.

Congratulations Starry!

Bumpin was right, Arthur is going through a growth spurt! Last time I weighted him was 2 days ago, he was 2.540kg. Today: 2.640! So a weight gain of 100g in two days, when the weekly average for a breastfed baby is 200g.

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time bf'ing, daddiesgift.

How can you tell if a baby had reflux or a sensitive stomach? The past week Bryson has been absolutely hysterical after eating and spitting up a lot even sometimes hours after eating but he also sounds like he's straining a lot as well. I have no idea if I need to try sensitive formula for gas or formula for reflux.

My HV said throwing up is a sign of reflux along with arching the back. Also if hes more comfortable upright rather than lay down then thats another sign. I keep Gracie more upright to feed and lay her upright on my chest for half an hour after a feed and shes doing much better.

HV also said the throwing up can be caused by wind so I use infacol aswell incase thats the problem x

amour: miss J has awful gas these days, I'm giving her both oval drops or gripe water with almost every feeding. it's been helping, but she's still pretty grumpy. what your describing does sound like he might have some reflux, will he lay on his tummy? most reflux babies have a hard time with tummy time.

Meh, yes and no to tummy time. He'll do it but not for long but now that I think about it he used to love laying on DH's chest but isn't really like it so much recently.

I just don't know if it's reflux or trapped gas as he's spitting up violently and a lot but also grunting and passing gas quite a bit. So confusing.

I'd try and treat the gas before changing formula our treating reflux. changing formula cam be hard on little tummies.

Your little ones old enough for you to use gripe water, HV says thats better than infacol but we have a week and half to wait until we can try that :( if all that fails your doctor can prescribe some infant gaviscon.

The symptoms you describe sound a lot like Gracie's symptoms so hopefully we can share some tips on how to get the bubbas through it :) x

Bumpin - Congratulations on your BF milestone! :D

Amour - I'm sorry to hear that your incision is infected, I hope it clears up soon :(

Starry - Congratulations! I'm so happy for you that you got your VBAC! :D

Rosie - I hope your infection clears up soon :(

We got Jayden weighed yesterday and he weighs 10lbs 7oz at 4 weeks!

I'd say it's reflux for sure. If it's that much and that often as well as violently to me that's reflux without a doubt. I'd change formulas for sure. Gas may just be a part of upset tummy. Gas can be helped with over the counter remedies when reflux needs more care. I know formula is different here in America but I'd even look into a diary protein sensitivity . If you are using a formula that is milk based. I learned that the proteins in diary really are the devil and bad on babies tummies as it's so hard to digest the protein. So maybe try a reflux one or a protein sensitivity one.

Lexi was constipated which made her strain a lot and she was uncomfortable. I asked the MW and HV about changing formulas and they were both very emphatic in saying NO do not change. They said it can take babies digestion a couple of months to mature and so colic, gas and constipation are common.

Burp every ounce or 2 when feeding, infacol of gripe watt for wind and 20ml of cooled boiled water between feeds to loosen stools.

Well, we gave Enfamil A.R. (a spit up formula) a try and so far so good! He's had 3 bottles and only spit a little and no hysterical crying afterwards. Hopefully we just needed to make a formula switch and it's not anything more serious!
