So DH and I finally have found a boy name (after DH shot down our 2favorites we picked in first tri). But I struggling a little with spelling.

We have chosen Issac for a boy. With the nickname Ike (my DH favorite part).

How do you think we should spell it? I like unique ways but Issac is already spelled so many ways I'm not sure. Not to mention I hate it when asked how to spell my name I don't want to complicate it but, I wonder if Issac is already one of those no one really knows how to spell.

Here are our thoughts:
Issac
Isaac
Isac
Issak
Isaak
Isak
Izak

(Middle name will either be Matthew or Francis)

I've never actually seen it spelled Issac. I'm fairly sure it is spelled Isaac. So if you don't want to complicate things I'd go with that

Issac just looks like a spelling mistake to me

I'm not terribly fond of unique spellings for classic names so I would definitely just stick with Isaac. The double s in Issac might cause some pronunciation confusion.

Isaac is definitely the most common spelling.
If you're going to nickname him Ike then I'd incorporate a K in the spelling though so that it's not completely random (which I've never even heard of Ike as a nickname, let alone for Isaac.)
I'd go for Isaak or even Izak.
I prefer Francis as the middle name

I was thinking that too actually- I think Isaak is the Russian spelling? It might go better with the nn Ike (which is great BTW!)
But Ike can still be a nn for classic spelling Isaac too. It depends - just know that if you go with Isaak he will have to say "Isaak...with a K" his whole life and even then some may interpret that as "Isaack" and misspell it anyway.

Thomas's middle name is Isaac and that is the only way I have seen it spelt.

My OH is Mathew with 1 't' and it has never caused him any hassle so I'm not sure about the idea that a slight spelling change does.

Isaac is the traditional bibilical spelling of the name, at least in English. I would go with that, or as others have said, it just looks like a spelling erorr. I don't think you need to worry about the K in the nickname. Kids name Zachary go by Zack all the time without confusion.

^^True.

I wouldn't worry about spelling confusion because I have a common name/spelling of Rebecca and you'd be surprised how many people can't spell it correctly!!! :dohh:

Thanks for the input ladies! I think we will probably do Isaac or Isaak. We found that Ike is a variation of Isaac so I figured it could easily be a nn and DH only agreed to Isaac because of it. His Dad is Mike so it is perfect.
I prefer Isaac Francis too. But family tradition is to use DHs name for a mn, which then it would be Isaac Matthew. I figure it won't matter between the two too much so it's up to him. I know he loves Francis so it's a hard decision for him.

Definitely Isaac. I've never heard any of those others except from people who don't know how to spell it and are just making their best guess. I may have seen it spelled Isaak in other languages, so I wouldn't rule that out if you really strongly prefer it. It's a harder name to spell, though, so I wouldn't make it even harder on him by choosing an alternate spelling.
