PCOS Buddies (10 BFP)

klabro, you may ovulate! think positive:happydance:

May55 dont lose hope hun, i heard diet & exercise can really help

Im not an expert on this pcos diet but i will tell you what i have found out so far.

No Dairy
No Refined sugar (i use coconut palm sugar when i need)
Low carbs, if possible go gluten free! (I basically only eat complex carbs, except bulgur they are all gluten free)
No processed foods (This is bit tricky, try to make everything from scratch, if you cant then read the label before buying an item. Less ingredients and make sure u understand whats included in the ingredient list)
Limit ur coffee intake, alchocol too
No fruit or veggy juices, unless u juice it urself

My one day meal plan,

Morning smoothie; Kale, spinach, 1cup fruits (any fruit), 3 spoons hemp seed, 2 spoons flaxseed, water

Morning snack; nuts or fruit

Lunch; 1 portion meat, 1 portion complex carb and some veggy

Afternoon snack; cucumber, spinach and apple (my fav salad)

Supper; 1 portion meat, 1 portion complex carb and some veggy

Thanks a lot.. I have to start cuttng things out for sure.. I eat healthy and im not overweight but I guess a lot of what I eat is bad for PCOS. I just need something to work at this point :(

Pcos diet is not about losing weight. Everytime i suggest pcos diet, ppl usually say that they are not overweight or diabetic which is a normal reaction that i gave at first too. Pcos diet is about regulating ur hormones.

Let me try to explain why no sugar, carbs and dairy.

First of all processed foods are bad because it can carry bunch of chemicals to ur body that can effect ur hormones negatively. Thats pretty easy to understand.

Sugar and carbs
So when u eat sugar and carbs ur insulin goes p and because u have pcos, u are insulin resistant which means ur body will never be full of insulin, it will keep asking for it. In women with PCOS, high insulin levels cause the ovaries to make more androgen hormones such as testosterone. This can cause increased body hair, acne, and irregular or few periods. Eventually u will become diabetic.

Dairy
Dairy is inflammatory, and its a big problem for PCOS. "The problem with dairy is not the lactose, or the fat. The problem is a protein called A1 casein. When A1 casein hits your digestion, a part of it breaks off to become casomorphin or BCM7. Casomorphin is an opiate, just like morphine is an opiate, or codeine. Casomorphin is a drug, which is why it causes brain-fog in some people, and why so many people crave dairy. There’s more to casomorphin than its sedative effect. Casomorphin also causes inflammation, and inflammation is exactly what you don’t want when you have PCOS. Inflammation impairs insulin sensitivity, and damages the hormone-signalling of ovulation. Inflammation also makes hormone receptors overly sensitive to androgens like testosterone." -PcosDiva

If you dont have time to search all this, use pcosdiva. Really usefull info there explaining the diet. Dont stop eating things because a diet suggests, i highly suggest you ladies read it thru and understand why we hav to stop eating certain things and how it benefits us.

I wonder if some of my problem is the fact I still eat dairy. I follow low carb opposed to PCOS because I am diabetic. But I am wondering if the dairy I am eating is causing me to have some additional problems.

Thanks for the info Golden!

It can be, because u are already diabetic with insulin problem and apparently dairy paired with insulin causes ovulation problems.

Maybe try cutting dairy out for a cycle? But i also read that it can take 4-6 months for A1 Casein to leave the body. Maybe thats why my acne just cleared up since i have been dairy free for 4 months now.

Wow!! I really just need to make the full jump to Paleo. I have all the books by Danielle Walker's Against All Grain and she has fabulous Paleo recipes. I should just pull those out and make a meal plan based on those.

I have 3 weeks left of work and then summer so maybe that will be the perfect time to start working on that as well as prepping some freezer meals for when I head back to work in August.

You dont need to exclude grains tho, most of grains contain protein and gluten free complex carbs. Grains are okey for pcos.

Summer will definitely be a great time to start planning especially if u are off work!

I don't react well to most grains though. Wheat and oats are huge trigger for me. I do okay with rice and quinoa so will probably keep some of those. (Cauliflower rice is nasty anyways!!)

Hmm.. will have to think more about this.

Now if only af would arrive. Like seriously where is she!! I stopped progesterone last Thursday.

Maybe u are preggo already! when did u test last time and when was af last time? sorry if u told me before, i get everyones stories and cycles mixed p:blush::blush::blush:

Af arrived March 29th.. last hpt was Sunday.

If I remember I will take another one in the morning.

so u are cd36? Some ppl get bfp really late, so there is still hope for this cycle ha!!

I typically follow a version of the "clean-eating" diet because there are several PCOS friendly recipes to be found when searching there. I've never followed it to lose weight, just for the health benefits, but inevitably I end up losing a couple pounds just because a lot of the stuff you shouldn't have with PCOS is the stuff that would make me gain weight anyways :) I'm lactose intolerant anyways so dairy free wasn't such a big leap.

Krissie-Fingers crossed that you get a positive, how cool would that be the cycle before you started clomid!

Golden-Thanks for all the additional info on the diet. I have been a member on the PCOS Forum Soul Systers for a while and I spent a long time reading through all of the diet/supplement posts and trying to wrap my head around it all. So many different methods/supplements for us all to try sometimes it just gets overwhelming..

Ladies take a look at this https://pcosdiva.com/2016/03/diagnosis-are-you-misdiagnosed-ncah-the-big-pcos-mimicker/

Im gonna ask my doctor about this! how if we are misdiagnosed? I guess if metformin didnt work, we will know.

Wow that is pretty crazy. It's worth looking into for sure.

I'm certian I do have pcos. I'm pretty classical pcos with most of the symptoms. Plus metformin does work really well for me. It doesn't make me ovulate but I do have a reduction in other markers with it.

Thats the thing, i donno if metformin worked for me or not. I will find out in two weeks if my LH:FSH ratio changed.

I was searching how to lower LH since thats my main problem, Black cohosh and inositol supposed to lower LH. Ugh i hate the fact that i have to take million supplements to lower a hormone:cry:

so u are cd36? Some ppl get bfp really late, so there is still hope for this cycle ha!!

CD 37. I took a hpt tonight and it was negative. I don't really think i ovulated this cycle. The last time dh and I bd was 11 days ago so likely the only time I could have got pregnant.

Golden what do you use instead of dairy? I know you cant have Soya! Dairy is going to be the one thing I struggle with!!

Sophmm I love yogurt and feta cheese but I couldn't find replacement for those, I use coconut milk if I'm baking and that's about it.

Coffee cream s okey since fat content is really high n butter too.
