I'm going to have a go at making some salt dough xmas decs after so much amazing inspiration from here! I have acrylic paint but need to buy varnish...what am I looking for? Thanks in advance

Can I ask how you are making it ??

I made some last night and it smells of biscuits :(
I've been told it shouldn't smell like that !! Lol x

Wood vanish or even pva glue I think :flower:

Well I havent made it before so can't really advise (although biscuit smell says to me the oven was too hot and you cooked it rather than just drying it out) but was going to follow from a post in "diy crafty christmas" thread. Sorry I don't know how to link but this was the post (try find it, the pic is amazing!

Salt dough santa hand ornaments.

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup lukewarm water.

Mix all together in firm dough ball then roll out. Press hand prints on and put hole at top of hand print to hand with. Bake in over for 3 hours at 100C. Use paints to decorate like this....

I just used a generous amount of pva glue to seal mine last year and they are fine x

PVA glue works best!!! Been doing mine for years with it.

I used clear wood varnish and they look great :)

Thanks so much all, went and got some pva glue today as I was in the works, didn't know where to get wood varnish. Getting so excited to make them!
