Its because your bile acid levels can rise very quickly, it can cause hemoraging not only in you but baby as well. Check out WWW.itchymoms.com. by far the best place I've found o get info about it.

thankyou, also does this mean they deliver the baby early and is that by ceaserean??

I had it and was induced at 38 weeks as some research says there is a slightly increased risk of stillbirth the longer the pregnancy goes on. They are unlikely to do a caesarian though.

Hi everyone.
Just an update from me. I am being induced this Thursday at 37+6, and to be honest I am quite relieved. Its been really stressful going in for blood tests every 2 days and CTG's. I have had 2 stretch and sweeps so far but although I am 1cm dilated there has been no progress. Again I was told it was a serious condition and potentially life threatening for the baby and this is why they are inducing early.
Waiting to hear how Crocus fared with her early induction.
Hope everyone is well xx

I've only had the one child but I know you won't necessarily have it with all your pregnancies.

My mum had it (though she didn't know it had a name in the 80's) but only with me. She didn't have any itches with my sister.

Can you ladies tell me how long it took for your blood results to come back? I have generalised itching but really intense on my feet and can be on my hands too. I had blood taken today. Itching is driving me crazy!!!

Hello all. I had a reasonably straightforward induction and birth 17 days ago. Despite being early my cervix was favourable and I didn't need any prostaglandin (sp?), just ARM and syntocin. The ARM was the most unpleasant bit of the whole delivery- my cervix was posterior and they had to do an unholy amount of rummaging to get them to break. I suggest that everyone insists on some gas and air for this bit! I
Also had a one sided epidural which left me with contractions on one side for the first four hours..by the time this resolved I has had so many top ups that I couldn't feel a thing. It was a surprise to is all when baby slithered out on her own without a single push 30 minutes after I was only 3 cm dilated!

Baby is perfect in every way and I was congratulating myself on a very speedy and easy recovery when I had a pretty big haemorrhage yesterday due to retained placenta fragments. I am writing this from hospital having had a 'manual evacuation' to clean out my womb and a blood transfusion. All in all I am thoroughly sick of the sight of the hospital and can't wait to get home!

I hope everyone is doing well x

Hi can anyone help??

I am itching on the top of my hands, bit of a rash too, feels tight. Is this just due to the weather or oc?

I got my blood results back the next day. The midwife at the ante-natal clinic rang me at work and asked me to come straight in.

Sounds like an allergy or weather rather than OC. OC will Have no rash and generally itch on the palms

Hi ladies.

Just posted on the 3rd tri board today about my night of constant itching at 36+1 yesterday.

I had a horrible night, constantly itchy palms of hands and soles of feet, I was wide awake most of the night.

I had a little bit of the odd itching in the month or so leading up til now, but nothing that bothered me at all or nothing that I was concerned about.

I called NHS24 yesterday and they told me to go to Boots and get some hand cream to soothe the itching.

I was not too happy with that so called the Maternity Unit at hospital and they wanted me to go in for tests right away,

Off we went in 2.30pm yesterday, and they carried out some blood tests, hoping to rule out Obstetric Cholestasis.

As I was 36+1, they wanted us to wait for the results.......After 4 hours of being in the hospital I was diagnosed with OC. My blood result came back at 43, which should have been around just 30.

The doctor I was seeing went through everything and told us the risks (very small and these days there is no evidence to suggest increase stillbirth etc - all very controversial....) She also told us of the normal procedure of treatment and plan for possible early delivery. We were happy and off she then went to arrange a follow-up appt for us to come back next week................10mins later after speaking with the Registrar/Consultant she came back and they wanted to admit me into hospital!!!!!! We were shocked!!!!!!!

Basically they saw it as that at 36+1, I could go into labour any time, and I had not yet actually seen the Registrar/Consultant which is what they wanted to keep me in for. We did not see the point in staying in overnight just to see the consultant the next day. If they were going to do any monitoring or treatment overnight then fair enough.

We came home. If I thought I was in labour we could be in hospital within 15mins maximum.

We have an appt with Consultant on Monday 10am to plan delivery, and a scan too.

Doctor says it will all be down to me and the Consultant on how we deliver - it is unlikely they would let me go past 40wks (but me having a c-section 21 months ago, I was not going to get past that anyway!) She talked of possible elective c-section at 38wks.......we will see how monday goes.....

:flower:

Oh dear Ellie, if you need any advice just ask because I'm an expert after having it with Daisy. I also got diagnosed at 36 weeks and my results went up to over 100 with her and I was induced at 38 weeks and monitored every 2 days up until then and had scans and a liver scan and was put on urso, vitamin k and piraton (which didn't help the itching at all). I have my bloods done every 2 weeks in this pregnancy and my care has been consultant led due to the previous OC. I've been itching like mad this last week so I'm pretty sure my OC has returned as well. I have my next LFTs tomorrow so will hopefully find out before long.

i had a blood test taken on friday due to excessive itching but not rash, just itching in hands and feet, legs, and arms.. my BP was also high on friday so they took a test..a few other symptoms is extreme tiredness, waking up because of itchyness, and my urine has been pretty dark. i find out the results today.
what do you all think?..

Ive had all the symptoms for 2 wks nw and have had blood tests done the past 2 days. My results came bk 2day. Im 37 wks on saturday so the doc said im most likely going to be induced between 37 and 38 wks and askd if id be ok with this, which I totaly am. my midwife is goin to call me with a scan date 2mz, she said it wil eitha be 2mz or monday and we will discuss everything else then. The itching and SPD are driving me nuts. I just cnt wait 4 it to stop.
