*Please Read* Obstetric Cholestasis

I am struggling because I really want to keep working, I completely love my job.

However, it is a very mentally draining job so with no sleep I am definitely struggling and dragging.

hey ladies - has anyone gotten their liver levels back and were normal but still had cholestasis?

I've had itchiness all over for a few weeks but on Tuesday I started getting near unbearable itchiness in my feet! Called DR on Wed AM since I couldn't even sleep, to see if they could give me something to put on it. They had me come in right away and DR explained it could be cholestasis. Did liver and bile bloodwork - liver panels were rushed and came back normal same day but now I'm anxiously awaiting my bile acids results that should be in tomorrow. Scary when they tell you you could have something but then have to wait to find out for sure!

I'm on ursodiol and it helps so much with the itch. I will be induced at 37 or 38 weeks. Anyone else?

I was hoping he'd just come out on his own! But now I'm nervous about OC!

I just got a call from my DR that my lab results came back normal. I'm competely shocked and can't figure out what else is causing such severe itching, especially on my feet and hands. Nothing topical works so I'm waiting to hear back if they can give me something. I'm glad I'm at the end of my pregnancy and hopefully I will have some relief soon. I haven't slept in 3 days due to how bad the itching gets at night - it's like bugs under my skin. And I've even been drawing blood in areas :/

im being induced at 37 plus 1 for cholistasis on the 4th april my levels were high ast 214 and ba 36 x

That was like me, it showed up as normal on the results so they gave me Piriton and it has helped a lot. My doctor doesn't want me taking it regularly tho as it can have a sedative effect on the baby so am just taking it when I reeeeally need to and the itching has calmed down loads! Aqueous cream helps a lot xx

Even though my lab results had come back ok, my DR still thinks I have cholestasis and I'm being induced tomorrow!

7:30 pm is when I go in! And start the drip in the morning! What about you? GOOD LUCK!

Hi everyone,

My induction date has been set. I am going to get the gel when I am 37 + 6 at 10 in the morning and then again at 4 in the evening. Then I am supposed to come in the next day at 8:30 in the morning to be induced. I am quite nervous! Up until then I am just supposed to be continuing to take my ursodiol tablets. Don't they normally induce at 37 weeks for OC? Aren't they waiting a bit late for me? Also nervous about the induction itself as I've heard its more painful and that there's a much higher risk of c section. But I am looking forward to meeting my baby and I hope she'll arrive with no problems!

I went in on Tue to be induced - they put in a bulb that was inflated to the size of a ping pong ball and had a catheter attached - that was left in over night to help soften and dilate. In the AM they started pitocin and I was having contractions every 90 seconds within 20 mins! They were able to give me IV pain meds that helped. Unfortunately, when the DR broke my water my cord prolapsed and I had to have an emergency c-section, but that's is extremely rare and doesn't happen just because of induction. Just concentrate on seeing your sweet baby and it's all worth it! Good luck!!

Congratulations on the new addition to your family! Hopefully your baby turned out healthy and happy.

Hello ladies and congratulations on the safe arrival of your babies! I m sorry to be gate crashing but i need your advise and i am super nervous... I have been experiencing severe itching for about 2 weeks now of my right arm...it is so bad i dont sleep at night and i have scratched myself so badly that my arm is basically bleeding all over. Anyway, i called my doc today asking for something to relieve the itchiness but he ordered bloods to test for OC. I m going in for the bloods tomorrow but i stupidly searched onine and now i am scared shitless (excuse my language)...i ve read that OC can increase the risk for still birth????????? I will be induced anyway at 37 weeks (well not induced but i have a stitch in place so the doc thinks i will go into spontaneous labor as soon as it is out) but do you think my baby is at risk even before then? Thank you so much for any input and sorry if this is so long.

Sorry to hear that you might be dealing with this as well. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and am being induced tomorrow, I will be a little shy of 37 weeks.

If your doctor thinks that you have OC then they will probably put you on Urso. It helps lower the bile salts and after a week or two of continuous use, should help with the itching. The only other thing I have found that helps so far is cold water/ice on my palms and on my feet. I get up several times a night just to run my hands under cold water.

From what I have read, the best outcomes with OC are when labour is induced between 37 and 38 weeks. If your levels come back positive for OC and are really high, your doctor might think about delivering before that, but I think it would have to be pretty severe.

I really hope it turns out that everything is fine for you. But even if your bloods come back okay, you should ask your doctor if you can be retested every week, as with OC the bloods can change suddenly and the onset of itching can precede "positive" blood results by several weeks.

All the best.

ceejie- thank you so much for your reply.. i ve been reading and reading on evil google and getting more stressed out by the minute! i really dont care about the itchiness (i hardly sleep anyway due to very bad indigestion...sometimes when i do sleep i wake up and am sick all over the place (sorry tmi) so now i m just sitting in my bed upright and mostly wait for the morning to come) but it scare me sooooo much reading about blood clots and still birth, especially after 2 previous losses. Anyway, hopefully the results wont take long to come back, i m going privately (cause if i wait to be tested publicly in Greece i ll get the results after i ve given birth!).

All the best for tomorrow, i wish you a happy, smooth and safe delivery!!!
