Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Pip, even though she had her happy ending, she waa still so tearful when she spoke of what happened to her. That made me feel normal (if that makes sense) its something that never goes away and I just wanted to grab them from out of the tv and hug them LOL. I looked over at my husband and he was crying his eyes out. then we burst out laughing as we realised how soppy we are!

Was going to ask for some advice. I am under my local NHS hospital for rcm and waiting to see consultant in april, what are the chances of being referred on nhs for natural killer cells? I hear most wont do it and if that is the case I am covered on my bupa health to see someone as St Marys. I have spoken to them and its just a case of booking my own app with them. obviously if my nhs doc will refer me then great but I hear its a mission

Hi Stardust. The NHS won't do anything re: NK cells so not even worth asking in most cases. St Mary's don't tend to get too involved in NK cells as they don't think the test is accurate enough. If you want to go down this route then try Dr Shehata on Harley Street as he is something of a specialist in this area. BUPA will still cover this I should think. Alternatively, try and find a consultant who will prescribe prednisolone on the off chance (which is what I have done). Good luck!

I did the same as Lamburai stardust - my consultant was quite easy to convince and think he's quite enjoying seeing how the journey goes.

My scan today showed a very active little baby with arms and legs who is 9 1/2 weeks - a whole week more than any of my last 3 have made it to. Had some bleeding this wek so very relieved to see all well.

Oh thank you so much! That is exactly what I needed to hear. Its all well and good me googling away but itf I dont get very far its all a waste of time. my RCM consultant who I have seen so far at my local hospital seems quite good and even gave me asprin, clexane and progesterone on my 4th pregnancy, even though he hadnt had the 2nd blood test confirmed. so he was more of the thinking that we cant make you miscarry but your history suggests you will so do you want to try this! I think I might see at my app in april what his thoughts are. Plus I work on the unit where he works and see him alot whilst he is on the ward. I try not to make contact as I am soooo tempted to just bombard him but I know I cant. grrrrr HELP LOL.

Chilli, sooooo pleased to hear this news! I have everything crossed for you and this is your forever baby, I will be ttc again in a few weeks so hoping to join you!!!!

Hi Daviess3,

So sorry you are having to join us under these sad circumstances but you will be very pleased to hear we all help and support each other!

I am in a very similar situation to yourself. 4 miscarriages, first one at 13 weeks (heartbeat seen but baby passed at 11 weeks) erpc needed, then 6 weeks early miscarriage at home, 10 week miscarriage (hb seen at 6 weeks) erpc required and then January 6 weeks miscarriage at home.

I have been referred to my local hospital (southend - I see you are Essex but not sure where?) and I have also had all the blood tests done. the one for me and my hubby (karyotyping chomosones) takes 12 weeks almost to the day. it is a long wait but at least you can hopefully rule out this problem. I had all tested come back normal last week. The only one that was positive was for the sticky blood (clotting issue) it was slightly raised but apparently I need 2 positives before they conculde that this is a problem. I am due for this retest end of March (12 weeks from my last miscarriage) I did get pregnant with my 4th before I had clotting test confirmed but was given clexane injections, asprin and progesterone but I still miscarried, doctor also said that this could have nothing to do with the clotting and just wasnt meant to be. So for me, the next step is a follow up app with consultant and results of the 2nd blood test and probably just try a 5th time with all the meds I had with 4th and see what happens, scary thought but I cant give up.

Sorry this goes on a bit but I am assuming this is the route you will most likely be going down now.

Just hope this helps you somehwat. if you have any other questions please ask here or send me a private message.

Chilli - whoop whoop! I'm so pleased for you lovely. Can prednisolone have any effect on the baby? I'm terrified of taking any more drugs but it is taking me so long to get pregnant this time that i think i'll take it along with clexane etc to try and keep the next one.

Daviess3 - sorry you find yourself in this section but rest assured all the ladies on here are lovely and very knowledgable. I had all the tests after my 3rd miscarriage and some of them again after the 4th and it seems i have lupus anticoagulant. Just hoping the next pregnancy is a sticky one.

Lovely news chilli :)

Lamburai: my consultant has assured me that everything I will get in the next pg and that includes prednisolone is safe to the baby. An old school friend of mine was on prednisolone during her pg and her baby is totally fine :)

Chilli I am so happy for you, I will be pleading with my ob for the prednisone to use with the progesterone and aspirin next week xxx.

Daviess3, so sorry for your loss.
I have tried Cyclogest in past 2 pg's, but didnt start to take until BFP and know that really you should take from OV, but tbh we were on a break from ttc.
Just wondering if you took from BFP or from OV, Iv'e tried aspirin in the past but it didn't help me although I know it has wored well for others.
I am hoping to get the prednisone/prednisilone from my ob at my appt next week as my gp won't prescribe and I know that it's nearly impossible to get a referral on NHS for NK cell testing, so hoping, like Chilli, I can get it on a won't do any harm basis.

That's all I can really offer I'm afraid but I'm hping that it works out for you, interested to hear if anyone else has any thoughts, I really only know of aspirin, progesterone and prednisone as a course of action for recurrent m/c but would be keen to hear if anyone else has any other suggestions.

Hoping we all get our sticky baby soon xxx.

Soz to sound silly but what's nk cell testing? An predisone? An stardust I'm in hockley so my local hospitals Southend! That's where I shall b Tom!! I was under doctor agawar but the lady in epau told me I need my gp to refer me to dr raajluumar an then she said she will put in for me to have blood tests me an hubby orange top which takes a while then I do the rest on day 3 of my cycle! Is that what u did!? Soz to ask so many questions I'm just so confused! I concentrated so much on gettin pregnant, that to find myself having to research recurrent mc is scary!! Thanks ladies for all ur kind thoughts xx

Oh wow you are close by,I am in Leigh. I actually work next to the EPU!! I am also a regular there as a patient. I was given a whole load of forms for blood tests but I wasnt told of a particular day to do them? I think I was about CD9? mmm wonder if that has any bearing on results. I hope not as I had them all back now. yes the one for you and hubby is karyotyping and that is the one that takes 12 weeks! the rest are only 2 weeks I think. Mr Rajkumar is my consultant. I have only seen him "unoficially" as I got pregnant with my 4th before my referral (he didnt seem happy about that) you are supposed to not ttc while waiting!! so frustrating. I am 36 in April and time is ticking FAST. He does seem very nice though. he only has recurrent mc clinic one a month and sees just 3 patients so its a bit of a wait. I think I will see him on 13th April so will let you know what my next step is, as I imagine you are just behind me!
NKC testing, is natural killer cells. Its basically where your own body attacks a pregnancy as if it was a bad thing and causes miscarriage. its not something many hospitals seem to recognise but if we have it and left untreated we will not keep a pregnancy to the end. I am thinking of going private at Harley Street for the test or like the girls on here say, mention it to rajkumar and see what he thinks. I will of course let you know what he says about that. Prednisone is the steroid that treats you for the natural killer cells.

I wasn't given any blood forms yet she said she would send them? Or should I ask Tom? Omg can't believe ur in Leigh, so u work at hospital to how funny I'm going on Eastwood ward Tom! Can't believe he only does one surgery a month!! Wow! I need that done asap then!! Thank you for all info much appreciated! How much is the test u go to Harley st for? X

Carol on EPU will post your forms pretty soon. I think I got mine within a week of my operation. I also was on Eastwood, I also work next to that ward! too close!! i hope everything goes ok for you hun. They are nice on Eastwood.

I dont have exact prices for NKC testing but its with Dr Shehata. Its normally about 200 for consultation and then a blood test and a follow up. My hubby has e mailed them so let you know. I would say minimum of £1000!!! We have bupa health so hoping that is covered but I dont think it is. You wont get to see Mr Rajkumar for at least 3-4 months because of the blood tests, his secretary tracks them on system and then sends you the app when she sees they are back! its annoying to wait but I guess its the best way.

I need to take time off anyway I think! I need me time! Thanks for info! Will keep coming back feel like fit in here now lol x

9babies, as you know it takes time and the pain is always there, but I'm sending you hugs right now, you have been through so much xxx

Daviess3, Stardust basically explained what NK cell testing is, sorry I didn't get back to you.
I am hoping to get it prescribed without referral amd hoping my new ob will be sympathetic to my cause and am going armed with all my research lol, I believe Siobhan Quenby at Liverpool also has an interest in NK cell testing and has ran trials in this.

It's so frustrating, I'm waiting for AF next Friday, then will be back to trying after my ectopic, so I really need to get my plan of treatment sorted out at my appt on the 16th.

Good luck to all xxx

thanks ladies I had dtd with my oh last night, hoping it was a day of ovulation, and the next 4 days will be fertile too. I hope those calculators are right. bc I really want my forever baby.

Hi ladies back home got sent home at 6pm! After having nothing to eat or drink!! Was given 3 tablets vaginally but they were to busy to do the procedure!! So I have to go back first thing! Has any one else had this!!? Xx
