Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Hang in there 9babies, it's gonna happen.

Davies, I'm sorry you haven't ovulated yet. Can you start taking the clomid again?

As for me, I just got my OvaCue fertility monitor today. I got it because I need to be able to confirm ovulation for my treatments. I hope it works well!

omgosh I always wanted one of those. but too expensive. Hope they work out and you get your treatments done x :hugs:

Thanks 9 babies. First treatment is on Friday, it's a 2.5 hour long IV. Once that is done we are clear to TTC!

Sorry everyone, I had to take a break - things just got too much for me. I wish I had only missed good news on here.

I got my results back from Mr S: high activation, which I understood to be a normal number of nkcells, but the ones I have are extra aggressive. So I will be taking steroids (eek!). Mon, are you taking them along with your ivig, too?

Even with this treatment I am scared of ttcing again.

Hi petit pas how you doing? Sounds like your finally getting some answers!! Mon im jealous about your monitor!!! All sounds good hun!!

Hi 9babies xx

I have my appointment saturday with raj rai!!!! An i think im going to ask for nk cell testing!! I really think this may be my problem!! I was doing some research on internet last night and I have a condition in my legs called lymphodema it is only mild but my lower legs dont have a lot of shape an look slightly swollen the lymph nodes dont work properly basically!! When i looked into this apparently they harbour nk cells!!!
Also about 4 years ago I had a kidney infection and I had an allergic reaction to medication when i had blood tests they asked me if i had been in a car accident recently or if i had a big traumatic thing happen to me!! I was like er no!!! Why? The reason was i had an abnormal amount of white blood cells like what someone would have in real shock or a death in the family etc etc!! They do go back down to normal but obviously where i had the infection they were high!! Is this like nk cells fighting a foreign body ie a baby? xx

Hi Petitpas, I'm sorry that you also have an NK cell issue. I asked my Dr. about the steroids but she said they were not necessary that the best treatment for my specific issue was either IVIG or intralipids. But I do know that some docs have been succesful with steroids. Just make sure to get tested again and see if the treatment is working after 2-3 months. So happy that you have a plan!

Thanks Davies! You know that is really interesting stuff you just mentioned. It sounds like you could indeed have an NK issue! As a matter of fact, from my reading I have learned that about 50% of women with 4 miscarriaes or more have an immune issue affecting TTC. Of that 50% 25-30% have an NK cell issue so I wouldn't be surprised. Please have that checked out and mention what you said here to your specialist.

I had mentioned my condition to the obs and gynae cons but on the NHS here nk cells aren't tested so he didn't seem bothered!! I was supposed to be meeting a cons sat but I cancelled as he doesn't do nk cells testing either! I am rescheduled with a different consultant who does privately see him 19th sep and then I got my NHS referral appontment on 18 th October at St marys London so hopefully I will get some answers! Did you hsve a blood test or the cervical testing? I'm trying to decide the best way to test! Xx

I did the blood testing, not the cervical one. From what I have read few docs do the cervical one as very few labs test for it.

Thanks hun i will do that then so how does your treatment work is it from ov? or from pos preg test xx

Hi, just to let you all

I've been in touch with Professor Quenby this week - she is currently based at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Anyway, I explained my history and that I may be looking into NK cells testing, and she told me that she has set up a new clinic.
It is called the Implantation Clinic and with a letter from your GP/consultant they offer a package of:
consultation, ultrasound scan, endometrial biopsy, uNK cells test results and telephone consultation to discuss results, for £260.

Thats uterine Nk cells rather than blood Nk cells. Seems like a good price to me, compared to the private clinics.

I have her email address if anybody would like it - just message me.

Hi Pip.

Nice to see you back. I too have been taking a break, as I find it hard being in limbo and not TTC.
I am expecting my appt with Shehata next month as couldn't get to my initial appt.
As you know I already tried steroids but only from BFP as advised by Quenby.
I think Shehata will have me taking them from Ov and on a much higher dose.
Like you, I am a bit scared to TTC again, as this is our final option.
I hate all this waiting around and dh and I decided we wouldn't TTC again until new year, after the battering I've taken this year but it's so hard.
Anyway, enough with my grumbling. How have you been since we last spoke.
I do think about everyone on here.

Sending big hugs, I assume you are taking Prednisolone.

Lee xxx

I love Blue.

I have also seen Quenby, her protocol is usually to take steroids from BFP.
She will prescribe but Shehata has a protocol of taking from OV in cases of high NK cells.

Taking from BFP did not work for me. I have suffered 10 losses while still trying for my first so for me it's steroids from OV now and perhaps intralipids after seeing Shehata.

I hope it all works out for you and us all xxx.

Sorry meant to add ladies when I seen and subsequently spoke to Quenby she would only prescribe and supervise 20mg Prednisolone per day.
I understand for high or aggressive NK cells Shehata sometimes advises 25mg from Ov and 40mg from BFP.

I'm keeping my Fx'd for us all.

x

Hi Lee, yes I will be on 25mg from ovulation. I'm also on the waiting list at st Mary's for a hysteroscopy to check for adhesions. Keeping my (last two) options open for now.

How are you getting on with your break? Getting fit and practicing for the midnight walk? It has moved out a couple of months hasn't it? Do your friends and colleagues know about your miscarriages or are you keeping it private? I try to but I find that the longer this goes on the less I can keep my mouth shut so there are a number of people who are aware of what's going on. Strangely, after protecting my privacy for so long I find that having those clued in people at work gives me a secret army of protectors. Still, I try not to let people know when we are ttc-ing as I'm worried about the pressure in case I don't get pregnant quickly. Weird, isn't it?! I'm also still holding on to the unlikely dream of surprising everyone with a bump one day. Ha!

Anyways, keep looking after yourself and don't lose hope xxx

Thanks hun i will do that then so how does your treatment work is it from ov? or from pos preg test xx

I have to do the treatment 1 week before ovulation so CD 7 (which is tomorrow) then I do another once as soon as I get BFP which I'll be tested for at 10 DPO. Then I do one every 4 weeks until I am 12 weeks along. At that point I get my NK cells tested again and based on that I can either stop the treatment or continue until I am 24 weeks along.

I've just found this forum and have been lurking up until this point. I've had 3 miscarriages in the past 2 years and currently am 16 weeks pregnant and STILL worry every day that something will happen. I was diagnosed with APS and put on ASA and heparin shots twice each day. I'm wondering, does anyone have any insight as to the difference between Heparin and some of the once daily anticoagulants? Don't get me wrong, I'll do anything to keep this baby, but the twice daily shots are getting difficult ... I have so many bruises and 'hardened spots' on my belly and buttocks ...
I'm so sorry for all of us that have gone through so many terrible losses ... my heart goes out to you all ...

I have had 4 miscarriages and now it looks like I am going to have a 5th. The date of last period was june 23. I am not good at keeping up with my cycle but I think its regular. As soon as I realized I missed my period I took a hpt which was positive. My husband and I were so happy. We have been trying to have another baby for ten years. I have one child who is eleven. I have had periods of infertility and this is now my 5th pregnancy. I called my ob/gyn as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I asked the nurse if there was anything I needed to do because of my history. She said that she would talk to the Dr and call me back but scheduled my first visit for when I would be 8 weeks. She called back a day later to tell me dr recommended starting a baby asprin daily, which I did. I did everything to take care of myself. Eating right, taking vitamins. My appointment was Wednesday. They did a vag ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. I am so upset. I am not bleeding or cramping. The dr wanted to schedule a d&c right away. I refused, and wanted to wait. She agreed to do another ultrasound a week later. I dont know what to do, I hear stories of women who have had this happen and go back to find a heartbeat. I dont expect that to happen to me but I wish that the doctor did not try to push a d&c on me. Im glad that I have been thru this before to know to say that I wanted to wait. at least for the peace of mind.
