Reflux Help & Support Thread

Sapphire, I'd say you need to investigate using Omeprazol rather than Ranitadene, I found it worked much better for us.

I use Neocate rather than nutramigon, if it's a true full cmpi then nutramigon won't be enough as it's still made from very broken down dairy proteins rather than amino acids etc of Neocate. That said if it's mild you will see a difference within a few days.

Puppymom, the loose shouldn't effect the vomiting tbh, only helps with the pain, if you think he's pain free without it then go for it, I can't lower mins dose at all as within 36h she's screaming, so if hes ok after 2-3 days he should be fine med free.

Amy, sounds like SR, pop to your GP and tell him you want to try Ranitadene or omeprazol, if you can fight against Gaviscon as it often makes SR worse as it thickens the liquid so it sticks in their throats and burns for longer.

Thanks hun the pain started again so we are back on the meds. He still up chucks every bottle but at least he is happy. Just severly hungry. :nope:

Puppymom, have you tried bit-feeding him? An oz or 2 every hour during the day?
He might manage to keep a little more down, its what we had to do for Nim.

We did that when he was smaller but now he just wants to eat all the time and if u take the bottle away before he has had 4oz he freaks out. Quite the opposite of most reflux babies I know. Then we he throw it up without the meds it hurts him so much. The prilosec makes it sooo much better as far as hurting goes.

We used banana instead of baby rice to help with the reflux, it seemed to work a little bit. Any little bit helps!

I cant wait to wean Ollie cus of the reflux - to be fair he isnt as bad as some of your little ones so I feel a little bad complaining - but it still irritates him something rotten !

I heard Banana instead of rice because rice can cause bad wind !

Don't feel bad about complaining! Its not about comparing who suffers the most! Reflux is horrid in any shape or form! Anyone dealing with it will know! :hugs:

Rice didn't work for us either as it caused her terrible wind!

Ive been giving my Daughter the aptimil porridge (she only started 2 days ago) but her pains are pretty bad, yesterday she cryed~popped off~screamed  It was awful, mayby she is getting extra wind from the porridge???

Her silent reflux is playing up anyway & Doctor has just upped her dose of ranintidine

Mayby i'll try banana too...Where did you guys hear it was better than rice? Or was it trial & error?

Would you mix the banana with babys milk?

Has anyone been told to split the omeprazole dosage during the day? My friends 27 weeker has 20mg but its split into 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 later., this 'putting a lining in his stomach for nighttime'

Alex seems to be sick just at night when she goes to bed. Im demented.:dohh:

Katerina was having 10mg in the morning and 10mg in the evening but when she was at her worst we were told to give her all 20mg at night since night time was her main issue!

Definatley a plan in this there. Do you think changing made a difference for you?

mm To be honest I don't know.. as we then realised she had other things going on for her that were keeping her awake.. So I'm afraid I can't help..

We split our Losec,
She gets 10mg morning and 10mg at night, it works best for us :flow:

i started doing it last night, fingers crossed i get some results.xxx

Is it helping?

I manged to miss one of Nim's night doses (and gave one morning one late) so shes been really uncomfy for the last 24h, breaking off while feeding to scream etc :dohh: Def not dropping the losec dose for the time being!

Still not sure if the erythromycin's doing anything .. we still have a fair amount of vomit to contend with daily. Although less hours after feeds, so may be its helping with that?
Will have to call her paed and ask methinks

It's hard to say. Alex's night sickness was 50/50, one night she wouldnt, one night she would. It's not something I can continue with when newborns gonna be here, and Alex shouldnt need to suffer this anymore, not at her age

Last two nights have been fine though *touch wood*. I just use half a fruit pot and mix 10mg about 11am, and another with 10mg about 6.30pm.

Hey guys. Hope you all had a lovely mothers day! We had a vomity one :(. Has anyone been told not to give ranitadine and Domperidone at the same time? My GP said it would be ok, but online they say not to mix the 2... Just wondering if that's what has caused the vomit fountains today!

No mothers day out here! Just a regular vomity day in farieville

Not great to be honest, she seems to be getting pain again, despite the 20mg Losec daily - she keeps breaking off while feeding and screaming and has really dropped her intake.
She also really suffering with constipation, she has coloxyl 3x daily just to keep her going, and even then its mucusy, dark dark green and the consistancy of toothpaste.
Poor lamb.

Going to call the paed tomorrow

hi, i just discovered this thread, thought id join....
i have been dealing with reflux since lo was born.. literally, for first 2 weeks i ignored it as i thought poseting is normal etc..(btw i bf).. by 3rd week it seemed to have got worse and i was concerned about lo, as she wasnt gaining weight as she should have... went to dr at 4th week and was fobbed of, and told to keep an eye on weight... things only got worse...so i went and picked up infant gaviscon myself and tried it.. it didnt work and was hard with bf...went to out of hours and was given only infacol...(didnt do nada)

at 6 weeks check up, my doc saw her vomit up in front of her 3 times, but still wanted to see how much weight gain she was having...
the next day my lo got worse and i took her to out of hours... was seen by gp and straightaway she saw that my lo was very uncomfortable while feeding... and sent me to be seen by peads in a & e...
was told straight away she is suffering from reflux... also she has a heart murmur...(appointment for that on the 19th)
was prescribed domperdome and renidetine...
They have helped alot, my lo is gaining weight soo much better and is not vomiting as much.... but she is still in pain and always so uncomfortable...
So dr tried soy based... i wasnt to happy about that... then pregestimil... she didnt take that well.. now im trying neocate.. feel really bad as its so expensive... but it seems to be doing the trick plus she took it alot better then pregestimil...

i really dont want to stop bf, but i know it will be very difficult for me to control my diet...
i want to put her on formula as its hard feeding her my milk... im hoping that she pass this phase, and i will be able to bf fully...

sorry for long story...
anyone else on neocate? i dont think my lo has intolerance... to be honest im not sure... what are the signs?

thanks in advance...

Hey Peachypoo!

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Katerina is on Neocate. She used to get really bad constipation and colicky pains. Trapped gas at night and all. Changing her milk helped tremendously! I guess if you don't want to stop bf you could try eliminating all dairy products to see if there is an improvement? Maybe for a couple of weeks?

PS: Where are you from? In the UK you can get the Neocate on prescription. It is crazy expensive!! Especially at this age when they are 100% on milk!!!
