Refusing 28 week rhogam shot?

I've already had one shot, a few weeks ago I took a hard knock to the bump so I had an anti D shot then. I will have another at 28 weeks. If there was any way to avoid it I would, I'm petrified of needles and I was shaking and sweating while they did it. I know that it's the best thing to do though, so I will. Taking a big strong friend so I can cling sadly hubby has to work . I think anything that could prevent problems for my baby boy is worth it. Xx

Lol! i wasn't shaking when i got it but i was def. sweating! I hate getting needles stuck into me =(.... and that was the first that i can remember that's been stuck into anything but my arm! And she was like 'oh this is gonna hurt a bit' Omg hahahah i was like OMG NO DONT TELL ME THAT ... then i had to sit there and worry about it until she was ready to stick me! hahaha aaah but i'm scared of any type of pain.... boy i can't wait for those labor pains!

I have known 2 Rh-negative women who had miscarriage after miscarriage due to developing these antibodies. If your OH is Rh-negative, then okay. But if he is Rh-positive, my opinion is you really need to get this shot. I have never heard of it causing harm, but Rh sensitization can cause harm.

My grandmother was rh- and her pregnancies were before this shot was invented, she lost 2 full term babies because of it. My mother was the only one out of the three that survived, and she was the oldest.

I would say that this shot is definitely important. It still hurts my grandmother to this day, and she always talks about her babies (one boy and one girl). This isn't something you want to take a chance on and regret for the rest of your life.

If your OH is RH negative then I'm pretty sure you don't need it. But if he's positive you do. Hmm... This topic upsets me. My friend, who is RHneg unfortunately lost her baby at 28 weeks due to complications with her blood and the fathers blood (who is RHpos) and her body attacked the positive blood, resulting (I believe, I could be wrong) in the placenta detaching from the baby. The injections may have (I'm not saying it would have deffinately worked, I'm not a doctor) stopped this happening.

They offer this for a reason. I hate when people say shots and vaccinations are bad things because they're not. Alot of testing goes into these things and if your doctor believes its best for you and your child why would you refuse it?

I had my OH get his blood type checked. We are both A- RH- so Im opting out of the shot. My OB had no problems with it at all

I had one done today after my amnio. Honestly, it hurt a little more than the amnio did but it is right in the bum/hip area and was over quickly. I also got a card with the batch number in case blood work needs to be done later on.

I'm a HUGE worry wart and I was scared to death to get the shot...but honestly the benefits out weigh the risks. If something were to happen to you, God forbid, then at least you would have peace of mind knowing your baby is safe. I got the shot and have had no side effects at all.

I would DEF recommend getting it. I am Rh- as well and had the shot at 28 weeks and after birth with my twins and our two sons. We has two early miscarriages and one doctor gave me the shot to be on the safe side and the other time the doctor said it was not necessary. We are not at a fertility clinic trying to get preg after miscarriages and it has come back that I am Rh sensitized. So an pos baby I have from now on I will be monitored by a high risk doctor bi weekly and baby could need blood transfusions in utero and most likely once he/sheis delivered if he/she has my hubby's + blood type. I am slightly biased but I would say GET IT!!

I agree. I have family members that lost more babies then that becuase of it.

I am O neg and my OH is A positive -- I had the injection after a mc, and at 14wks (due to cervical bleed), at 28wks and after baby was born -- it turns out that baby is A positive (so proof that my OH is the daddy! LOL!) and I HATE needles, but felt it was the best option for me.

I know that there is a synthetic version without human blood and if you are opposed to the small amount of human plasma, you might be able to get the other type. In Ireland, there was a HUGE controversy in the 1980s when the Irish government knowingly used contaminated blood (I worked at the law firm that did the initial case against the government) and now all blood used in Ireland, USA, UK, etc., is screened, tested and held up to WHO, etc., regulations. As someone aware of the controversial nature of the anti-d (and problems that can happen with regulations), I felt safe having the injection (altho, I did query the hospital at length about the provenance (sp) of the blood!), please get the injection -- it is extremely safe! I might not have any other children, but felt safe having this injection.

The only thing I have to say on the subject it that it's a lot more dangerous not to get it. My sister is O- so she has gone through this. I'm O+. From the research I've done (not much) rh factors aren't really something to play with.

What is this Rhogam shot? Ive never heard of it untill now and im 39 weeks!!! My blood type is O+ and OH/FOB is AB+...... should i have been offered this shot? Im really confused and scared now

I had RHgram shots myself. your first child, if he is blood type positive, will not be affected by your blood type but without the rhgram shots, your body will develop antibodies because it thinks your baby blood type is a a foriegn object. so when you get pregnant again, it will start attacking your baby (if it is also positve blood type)

if you really want to opt out of the shots, have the father of the baby (if you are absolutely sure he is the father and no one else) tested for blood type. if he is negative and since you are negative , your baby will be negative no matter what.

I am + blood type but have developed different rhesus antibodies, theres no shot for them and they could potentially affect any pregnancies you have, once you develop them, you have them forever. I wouldn't risk developing them if i had the chance of a shot to stop it, you will have to carry a card forever and it will affect you if you ever need blood transfusions, if you have antibodies the wrong blood could kill you. Its not worth the risk to me xx

Im quite surprised to see someone who actually wants to refuse the shot!
I went for my 28 week jab today, it's about the 7th one i've had so far in my life and i've never had any problems with them, besides the fact that depending on who does it they can really hurt, hehe.
If you do your research (which has already been done for you on this thread!) you'll see that that you should really really be getting this
I can't even begin to imagine how i would feel if i refused something like this and had to deal with consequences because of it later on.
