septate uterus

Hi all, my OB picked up on what he thought was either septate or bicornuate during a TV US. We have been TTC for 4 months so far, no MC this time yet unless they were very early and undetected. (I had a blighted ovum in 2001 in a prior relationship) I'm so glad this thread is here and there are so many encouraging stories! I have to wait for my next cycle to get an HSG, but I'm crossing my fingers that the next cycle is 9 months away!! If you're pregnant now, I'd love to hear how it's going! :happydance:

Hi Lilg! I was diagnosed with a septated uterus. They removed the septum last year. I started trying about 9 months later and fell pregnant within my second month of trying. Everything was going great with the pregnancy, until my 20 weeks appointment. I found out that my cervix was only 1 mm. I was taken to L&D,they checked me out and immediately and placed me on strict bed rest. They believe the cause of my short cervix was because of my surgery to remove the septum, but my regular ob's office didn't know that would cause a short cervix. I am still holding on, my last appointment which was at 21 weeks, my cervix grew from 1mm to 8-9 mm. Still very short, but improvement was all I cared about. I have my next appointment today, hopefully more good news will come my way.

Just a heads up to the ladies that do have surgery for a septated uterus, be sure to have the doctors start checking your cervix early and to keep checking it. If mine was caught early enough I could have had a cerclage placed in.

Why is your next cycle so far away?

Thank you, Carri! How are things going now? I had my HSG today and sure enough, there was a septum, so surgery is in my future :sad1: I was only hoping my next cycle was 9 months...meaning a BFP, but it wasn't. It was 5 weeks (really long for me) with a BFN but now at least I have some answers. What was the surgery like for you? And the recovery? Also, you said you waited 9 months to start trying again, was that the recommendation? I'm already 34 so I'm ready to get on this quickly! I appreciate the advice about the cerclage, and I hope to hear yours has thickened and you're doing well! Please keep all of us special uteri updated on your progress, and best of luck!

Things are still going... that is the main thing :) I am still on bed rest. I had steroid shots last week just in case he decided to come early. My cervix has not grown or shortened since my last appointment. I do have an ultrasound next week to see how things are going. Hopefully I am still stable.

As far as the surgery, it was not bad at all. The worst part was the healing from where they put the microscope in my belly button, but I was up and moving around a day after the surgery. It was a breeze. The belly button wasn't even that bad just uncomfortable. I was able to start trying after 30 days, but we wanted to wait for 9 months since I just started a job and I wanted to be there a little longer before having to tell them that I was pregnant.

It is great that they figured out what the problem was and that you will be getting the surgery for it. It has helped me tremendously. Just be sure to have cervical length checks through out the pregnancy. My doctor, which is the director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and also a professor for the students, has told me that woman that have the surgery tend to have a problem with the cervix. Not all woman will have the problem but some will. Just something to make sure your doctor and you know about. When will you be having the surgery?

Hi Carri! I'm glad to hear things are still going. I know bed rest can be trying but it will be worth it when you meet your baby face to face! I'm crossing my fingers and praying that you make it as long as possible. I haven't scheduled my surgery yet, as I haven't even heard back from my OB. It was just easy for both me and the tech to see during the HSG. We have a great fertility group here, so I'm planning to go with one of them, and I think the hardest part will be picking who to go to, as they're all wonderful...good predicament to be in! I guess they said they do the surgery between AF and ovulation (which should be any day now), so we're looking at next month since I haven't even been seen by them yet. I'll definitely keep everyone posted on how it all goes! The postop hormones I've been reading about scare me as I've never been one to enjoy them :nope: ...who does?! My poor husband...

Do you have another thread where we can follow your progress so you don't have to post double? I'd love to hear how everything is going for you!

Take care!

That is so marvelous that you have so many great fertility groups to choose from. I only had one option, by regular OB. My insurance would not cover it if we went through a fertility specialist, but my OB was determined to make sure that it would be accepted. He has removed them before so I wasn't as nervous. :) I am so excited for you to have the surgery. I would never have been able to stay pregnant with out it. It is truly a blessing to have the surgery done.

I don't have another post, so I will just keep updating this one.

Can gastro really kill your unborn baby? That is really scary! I had it a few days ago before I even knew I was pregnant but I still got a BFP :) I wish you luck with your scan :)

Hi baby! I am so sorry to hear about your losses. I have suffered though numerous ones myself. There are different stages of a septated uterus. It depends on how much the tissue goes down in your uterus. You could very well be able to carry this baby :) It all depends on where you baby implanted at. Whenever I got pregnant my babies would implant on my septate. When that happens the blood flow runs out after about a week and the babies passes on. It was heart breaking to me to have that happen time after time. I have meet plenty of woman online that have had two and three miscarriages and have been able to go on to have a couple of healthy babies. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I know how horrible it is to have that happen. Please keep me posted on your progress. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. :hugs:

Currituck - I've had the same experience as you. If all goes as planned, I'll be having mine removed in less then 2 weeks. Neither of my 2 pregnancies lasted even to the 5 week mark. I know you've said in this thread, but you had your septate removed right? How long after that did you have to wtt and how long did it take you to get pregnant again?

Hi Dodger! That is so exciting that you are having it removed. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders when I found out I could have it removed. My doctor told me that he wanted me to wait 1 month before trying. I ended up waiting a year to try again. I could have tried right away but we went through a rough patch and it wasn't the time for a baby. Right after we decided to start trying I fell pregnant with in two months. My doctor did put me on clomid though for the second month. When you do get pregnant, be sure to have your cervix checked closely between weeks 18-26. My maternal fetal medicine doctor told me that between having my septum removed and the three D&C's that I had, it made my cervix weak. Of course it won't happen to everyone, but I just a heads up. Good luck with your surgery. Let me know how it goes.:hugs:

I had mine removed in 2009 and was supposed to wait 2 months before getting pregnant. It was fairly easy to recover from. The strange thing is that I was in surgery to remove uterine polyps and when I was in surgery, the dr saw that I had a septate uterus so they fixed that in addition to removing the polyps. It has taken me a while to get pregnant, but worth the wait!

Hi Prego!!! That is amazing that they went a head and removed it!! I have to fight tooth and nail to have mine done. My insurance wouldn't cover it since it wasn't seen as a surgery that had to be done. My doctor, luckily, said that he would figure out how to word it so that they would cover it. My doctor said it was necessary since I had multiple miscarriages. My surgery was almost two years ago, the insurance is still fighting not to pay it. That is simply wonderful that you had it removed!!!

I can't believe they won't pay for it! That is ridiculous. Best of luck to you :)

I know this thread is over 2 years old... But I'm hoping to find others with a septate uterus? Has anyone had theirs removed? If so, what was the process like and how long until a BFP after? I've been TTC for 1 year and also have PCOS and just found out last week I'll need a resection for the septum in my uterus. I haven't heard of many with this condition so I hope there's someone out there!!!

Segs head over to the uterine anomaly thread in gestational compilations.
There are a few of us over there with different uterine anomalies.

Here's a link to the thread sbl is talking about: https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/g...rnuate-unicornuate-septate-didelphys-116.html

I have partial septate and bicorunate uterus. Ironically, I didn't find out until my 4th miscarriage why I was having such difficulty.

It seems I have a favorable lobe for implantation/gestation. If I implant/gestate in the less favorable lobe, I miscarry.

I have had 2 healthy, live births, and 4 miscarriages 5w-12w.

I'll be checking out the uterine abnormalities thread...I had never seen it before.
