septembryos baby area (09 babies)

Hey ladies :hi:

So need some advice on a probably silly question!! Joe is awake ALOT!! He sleeps for probably about 10 hours in total and I'm getting abit worried. Anyone else finding this too??? Or is it just a myth that newborn babies only sleep & eat lol!!!

When he is awake, we have play time on his playmat, cuddles, time in his rocker, This morning he was awake from 10am til 2pm (after his feed at 2pm he went to sleep in his pram on a walk then but he's just woken up again  ) I don't think they're supposed to spend loads of time in rockers, but sometimes it's the only thing to sooth him.... If I put him back in his crib he cries and I'm not really keen on letting him cry for a long time as he's so young.... Also tried the pick up, comfort, put down thing but this doesn't work either!! I'm worried he's not sleeping enough and then he gets over tired!! We are getting about 3 hours sleep a night at the moment and can't nap in the day as we hardly ever settles

Any idea's?? Am I doing the right thing??

gee-wiz Vicks you must be shattered honey!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not too sure what you can do, but this is what i do with Noah (give or take)

Baby whisperer technique.

3 hour schedule E.A.S.Y routine ...routine in the loosest sense of the word as it's baby led.

E - eat
A - activity
S - sleep .... Y - you.

feed times are 7am, 10, 1, 4, 7pm, 10, Noah is naturally feeding every three hours although i do feed him sooner if he is hungry.

Activity can be any thing from changing his nappy to time on his play mat.

Sleep usually lasts for 1 -1 .5 hours, so he goes down at 8.30 after his 7.00 feed, then wakes naturally at 10.00 for his next feed.

We were all over the place before i found the baby whisperer.... stuff like this is not for everyone but its working for us.

The infor she gives has tuned me in to recognising when he's tired, and being able to settle him to sleep before he becomes overly tired (in which case he will not sleep at all)

I't doesn't always work, as some days i miss his cues, or the feeds are all over the place, but on the days when its flowing well its great.

Sorry if it's not much help.......

I'm loving the teleporting idea - a Septembryos meet up would be awesome! I thought we were meant to be fending off visitors after having the baby but actually I'm craving visits as I need the adult company....

And don't get me started on how quickly time is passing, it's just too scary.

Vicks, Finn has been a very wakeful baby too. Today he's been much better though (touch wood.. fingers crossed... etc etc to stop me jinxing myself!!!!) and there's two things I've been doing differently. First, I've been giving him Infacol before every feed to try to fend off the crying fits. Second, I've been spending much more time on the feed itself. Before he used to binge feed for about 15mins and then fall asleep, nothing would wake him, but so far today I haven't taken no for an answer and have forced him awake until he's finished one boob completely and had a good helping at least of the second boob. Including burping breaks, it's taken me close to an hour to feed him each time but it seems (she says hesitantly in case it's actually just dumb luck!) to have settled him much better and he's sleeping really well in between.

So far today we've fed 9am-10am, played/changed nappy 10-11am, slept 11am-1pm, fed 1pm-2pm, played/changed 2pm-2.45pm and then he's been asleep since. It's the most structured I've ever been and I'm loving not having to feed him every 1-2hours!!!!

Soooooooooooo hoping it continues. Even every second day would do, if every day is too much to hope for...... :)

Thanks girlies!! I think I'll try the Baby whisperer technique tomorrow. Main thing I notice is that we change his nappy before each feed....so will change that to after too!

At the moment our routine is:

He wakes up (or it's 3-4 hours since his last feed if he's awake) and we make the bottle and change his nappy. Then feed before back in his cot. Activity etc is when he wakes up, so looks like we have got the order in a bit of a pickle lol :dohh:

Do you wake your baby if they are asleep when the 3 hour feed is due??? Do you also put your LO back in their cot/moses basket to fall asleep during the day?? What about during the night, do you demand feed or wake up if they're asleep?

Sorry for all the questions, would just love some sleep tonight and would be great to try and get in a little routine :)

Something really weird is happening with BnB.... I keep trying to reply to Vicks but it keeps telling me I've already posted..... possibly all my posts will suddenly appear and this thread will be filled with me repeating myself?!?!?!

Anyone else noticing problems?

I know that feeling FG!! I have been going to every group around for some adult conversation!! Loving the visitors.... Could you imagine the mayhem we would bring to anywhere we would meet??!!!

I love the idea of that routine Diz.... may have to give that a go! Although I often find that Isaac falls asleep after a feed - but then sleeps for the whole 2 hours until his next feed or stays awake for the whole time!

Vicks - some babies are naturally more awake.. but try out the routines!! Personally I don't wake Isaac, unless he's been for like 6 hours during the day - as I know he'll want more food during the night! But then he tends to go 3 hours between feeds, and doesn't often not wake up! Don't know what to suggest! But changing the nappy after would wake him up, if he is sleepy after a feed and then hopefully make him more tired afterwards!! Goodluck!

Right, I'm trying this one more time.... Vicks, this is what I wanted to say (and again, apologies if it turns up being posted multiple times!!)!

I tend to change the nappy after the feed during the day as it wakes him up, otherwise he'd just feed and sleep and would probably end up all out of sync. One book I read said that you should try to keep the baby awake for an hour after a feed in the day so that they don't sleep too much and so should sleep better at night. Also Finn nearly always poos during a feed so it seems a shame to do that on a clean nappy :)

During the night though, if I change the nappy I change it before the feed so that I can use the feed to help get him back to sleep. I don't change him more than once in the night generally though.

I haven't been waking Finn for a feed exactly. Normally he just wakes himself, but if he needs a little help I just uncover him and the change in temperature wakes him. Again, this is only in the daytime though. If he ever sleeps for more than 3 hours at night I'll happily let him!

Finn always sleeps in his moses basket, day or night. In the day he's out in the lounge room and then at night he goes back in the bedroom. What we're trying to do now is put him in the bedroom earlier in the evening. We used to have him out here with us until late, but we're trying to get him in there by say 9pm-ish. We're still working on building a night time routine though....

hi,

no luck yet on swim costume - sports shops were all "sports" costumes and £30+. bhs only had triangle bikinnis and beach sarongs. ethel austin and qs had none.

going to big sports and soccer store out of town 2morro and we have abig catalogue returns shop that OH taking me to saturday.

tesco with clothes is out of town so OH have do that 1 as well. only other option is primark - hr drive away.

Sorry, another questions girls!! After you've fed your LO and activity time/nappy change, do you then put them back in their cot/moses basket when they get sleepy?? Or after say an hour so they can get a good bit of sleep??
We're gonna try this tonight - excited about trying something else as we're sooo far from a routine right now lol x

Weve got a coupleof those 'gummy' soothers by tommee tippee, heres the link if youve not seen them...

hi everyone. we are trying to keep finley in a routine aswell. so upstairs by 9pm and fed and asleep by 9. so far so good but he's been fidgety today and hasn't slept much and feeds have been snacky rather than full.
anyone have any good ways of waking him up when he falls asleep on the boob. i need to get him to have longer feeds so that we can go out and not be feeding every hour.

thanks

Yes, thats what i do. Some times he will be pretty chilled out and fall a sleep with out much intervening from me, other times he needs to be cuddled and is practically comatosed before i can put him down.

Thanks Diz - I think I will look into that too!!

I have had 3 days of feeding - screaming - sleeping, with an occasional quiet play time stuck in!! I can't seem to get Isaac to sleep during the day without him screaming so that he is soothed to sleep for about 15mins

Any ideas how I can get him to sleep during the day without screaming first??

Noah did this too....and still does some times.... what works for us is the shh pat technique

:happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
blake slept all night last night - had milk at 9m, water at 11pm and didnt wake until 7am.
:happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

dont have problems with blake during the day. he will have a bottle/be winded, he is then placed on his beabag which means he isnt laid flat but at a slight angle. he has a soft little roo toy which he hits/sucks/cuddles etc makes a few noises and whatever and then goes off to sleep of his own accord and wakes whe he wants to. and even when he wakes he doesnt scream he just amuses himself.

Thanks Diz - I'm sure it's because he is over tired and then can't get himself off to sleep! But he's terrible!! Although as I'm posting this I've had 25 mins of screaming before him falling asleep. He's now in his moses basket "talking" to himself!! I'm sure the screaming will start again in a few mins!!

I'm gonna geek it up some and try tracking the mystery mamas over this weekend then I will be able to have the completed list sorted and can get some stats out hahaha I am so tragic....I may sit at my bureau to do it too hehehe

Afternoon all!

Well, after a great day yesterday today has not started so well. Finn slept from 10.30pm until 1.30am which was good, but then he fed until 2.30am and didn't feed so well... maybe I wasn't producing so much milk at that time or something, but it was much harder to get him to eat and I think he drained the first breast much quicker. So then he woke again at 4.30am and just wouldn't sleep until 6.30am.

Does anyone else's baby seem to have trouble pooing sometimes?? I think this is why he was so wakeful at 4.30! He seemed to be straining and not getting anywhere and it was stressing him out! I tried sitting him upright and rubbing his tummy but it didn't help much. Any ideas anyone?

So finally we got back to sleep and slept until about 8.30am so that threw the routine right out. He hasn't been eating so well again since and has only been able to nap for about 1 hour instead for 2-3hrs like he was doing yesterday. Need to try to get him back on track.... somehow......
