Smoking

It amazes me that smokers think changing clothes takes care of it but their skin releases toxins that are harmful. Which is why co-sleeping is frowned upon with smokers. Once you get the smell of smoke into fabric it really never comes out either. I can always tell when I'm near a smoker or in a car that has had someone smoke in it. My SIL gave me clothes for Emma and even after washing them several times I could still smell it.

With that being said, I won't deny my smoking family from the privilege of holding my daughter on the few occasions that we are back home visiting. I would never let them smoke near her though. I guess it's good we live 1300 miles from home because the times we are near smokers are rare. :D

I used to smoke. I quit the day Kayleigh was born, even though I wish I could have sooner. I cut back a lot during my pregnancy and wouldn't smoke sometimes for days, but I did smoke. Like I said, I quit the day I had her cold turkey. Our home, car etc... is all smoke free anyways, but OH still smokes outside. He has to wash his hands and change his clothes before holding Kayleigh and well... I kicked him out of our bed since I usually bring Kayleigh into it and I told him co-sleeping and smoking don't mix! We don't visit OH's dad and step-mum as they smoke like crazy in their house and don't think they should go outside... but they will. The smell is still so strong in their home I don't care if they smoked outside for a week before, we still wouldn't go. I want OH to quit too, but I don't harp on him as I know how hard it is to quit and I think he will when he is ready, but he is suffering in a way because of what I mentioned before.

My roommates smoke outside which is fine and i have no problems with it at all.

my in-laws smoke outside again i have no problem with it, and my MIL washes her hands after she smokes (but wont change her top) which is better then nothing. my problem is with my GMIL, shes 80 something, extremely frail and has an aid worker to help look after her, well she smokes outside but she doesnt wash her hands or change her clothes.

I tried explaining to my husband the need to wash hands after smoking and he thinks im over reacting a bit and molly-codling our baby. He doesnt mean that in a bad way but i think he knows that its pointless to ask GMIL to wash ehr hands when she can barely shuffle unaided to the front door to smoke outside as it is.

My only solution was to minimize the time our LO spent with her, it'd be a quick 5 minutes and then id get the baby wipes out and clean down LO and change his clothes.
