For any BF mom's out there, can you take a look at my thread below? My little man and I are having troubles. I don't know if it is just plain colic or if there are bigger issues but I am having a hard time

Happy New Year Everyone!! :happydance:

How's everyone getting on? We're now coming up for 7 weeks, still breast-feeding which is NOW going ok but has not been easy. Is there anyone else still breast-feeding? Are you finding it easy?

Are you finding that you're getting out much? With the weather being so cold and it being so slippery under foot, we're not getting out as much as I would like. I was determined to go out for a walk every day, but it just hasn't happened. I suppose that's one of the downsides to having a winter baby. Maybe when it gets a little warmer.

Keep up the good work everyone, you're doing sterling work!

Happy new year everyone.

Yes I'm still breast feeding - hang on in there girls, it does get much easier after about 8 weeks. Feeding is now so easy, although LO has a cold at the moment so he wants to feed all the time again and also has some problems breathing while feeding as his nose is all snuffly. It's so horrible seeing them unwell isn't it?

I've been going out for a walk everyday anyway, even if it's only to Tesco (about half an hour there and back). Usually we go for at least an hour walk to the park. I have non-slip boots that I used to use for hill walking so I've been wearing them. I think the fresh air is good for both of us although I do make sure LO is well wrapped up.

I also left OH babysitting yesterday morning and went to a New Year yoga workshop, really enjoyed it but my shoulders are stiff today!!

Well i haven't been on here for a little while but i am pleased to say i am back and feeling a bit better than when i last posted. My Dad's funeral was on the 30th December and although it was probably the hardest day of my life so far, the day itself did go okay, as well as it possibly could under the circumstances, and i felt that my Dad would have been pleased with everything. We still have the difficult task of sorting through his things as it doesn't seem as though my stepmum (who left him 3 weeks before he died) will be doing it, but i am hoping that although it will be upsetting maybe it will help to bring me some closure, as i am still having a hard time getting my head around the fact that this is all real and he actually died :( I know it is still early days yet though, and i must admit i feel more at peace with it then i did a couple of weeks ago.

As far as things with Toby are concerned, we had a quiet but lovely 1st christmas with him, being a cheeky chops and smiling at everything and cheering us up but things have also been quite tricky as he has been suffering from reflux for about 2-3 weeks now but i was struggling on, not 100% sure what it was and thinking it could possibly just be colic. It was getting worse though and i was at my wits end so took him to my GP on monday morning and ended up being referred to the hospital as she wanted him to be seen by a peadiatrician to rule out pyloric stenosis (which they did, thankgod).

So the bad news is it is definitely reflux and he has been started on infant gaviscon, which so far doesn't seem to be doing much :nope: but the good news is that he despite this, he is still breastfeeding well and gaining weight fantastically and is now 12lb 2oz :happydance:

I hope everyone else is okay and having a happy 2010 so far? I am going to add some more recent pics of Toby to my journal later, he is changing every day and i can't believe how grown up he is starting to look already :cloud9:

Hey, Katie is 2mths 3 days and I am still breastfeeding. As Polaris said, it really does get easier and just so much more pleasant now that we both know what we are doing :)

Oh My Word Rebaby!! Toby is doing so well!! I thought Katie was gaining well as she was 6lb 9oz born and 11lb 15oz on thursday.... look at Toby go!!
I am sure it must be hard at the moment, we lost FIL just before we caught for Katie and DH has had a very mixed year. I think that being pg with Katie gave him a focus and I hope that Toby is doing the same for you.
Sorry to hear he has reflux, poor little thing... but as you say, he has been seen by medical professional and something is being done and in the meantime, he is feeding and gaining well!!

Katie had her 8 week check last week and her injections. I think I cried more than she did. I hated seeing them cause my baby pain and I was a wreck... thankfully DH was also there and was incredibly calm and managed to keep me from punching the nurse....lol... she didnt do anything wrong, just made my poor baby sob and that was enough for me to want to bury her under the patio slabs...... :grr:

Katie recovered well and is back to her smilie self now :)

hey girls:hugs: hows everyone getting on? jack had his 1st jacks 3days ago and he broke his heart crying getting them :( but was fine after loads of cuddles and was smiling. hes 2months 2days but and weighs 13lbs0.5oz!
i feel like hes really big! how much ur ur LOs weigh? xxxxx

Finley and I are doing a bit better on the crying front but BF is still toublesome and he is getting red marks in the front of his diaper where he pees. It is only in the morning after the evening sleep/feed cycle. Midwife doesn't know what it is, a non-pediatric doctor figures it was uric crystals ...I am going to see the pediatrician on Tuesday.

It is possible the BF isn't working well at night and my little guy is dehydrated I supposed  but MW isn't convinced of that either.

I am not too too worried though because although he is fussy, I am not feeling the alarm bells I did at 2-3 weeks when his cries were inconsolable. He is more fussy now than anything but has a few periods where he flashes me the cutest smiles and dimples and he loves to giggle and coo on the change table.

Aww wow, we have som real chunky puddings for sparklers now don't we? :D It's great to hear how everyone is getting on

Sorry to hear that the feeding is still tricky snugglebot :hugs: let us know how you get on on tuesday.

We're also seeing a paediatrician on tuesday as we have our follow up appointment at the hospital. The gaviscon has done nothing at all to ease his symptoms and in fact actually made the situation worse as it bulked out his stools and made it really difficult for him to poo :( which was not only unpleasant for him but also had the knock on effect that on the occasions when he actually managed to keep his feed down he'd end up bringing some back up later when he was struggling and straining to poo :dohh: So after 5 days of giving it and it doing nothing i stopped yesterday and is poo is back to it's normal consistency (just) but worryingly green every nappy change so far in the past 24 hours

I am keeping a feed diary anyway to show them on tuesday which has times of feeds and whether or not he was sick and how much sick, so i am hoping they'll find that useful when deciding what is the next step.

Toby also has his first set of immunisations tuesday as well, so all in all it is not going to be a fun day :nope:

sounds like uric crystals hunny jack had that when he was born coz he was gettig dehydrated when i was BF and it stopped when i starts FF. hope you get some answers when you see the pediatrician xxx:hugs:

Sounds like everyone is hanging in there. Here's hoping our babies stay happy and healthy this 2010!
We made our move this past weekend! About 700 miles driven and Cole did splendid! Only fussy twice, once at the beginning and once at the end when the weather suddenly went from nice to cold and snowy! Ick! But 13 hours down and we're all settling in!

Glad it went well momma - we've got serious snow for once in the UK, so we can all relate ;)

Finn had the uric crystals int he beginning too but after a few extra days of BF it went away. To have them back is a bit strange, but this looks different. Not a full diaper of it, just a spot in the front where his penis is. Anyways, midwife cancelled the appt. She decided she could talk to the ped on my behalf about it and if he wanted to see me, we would then go in. He is thriving in all other regards. Colic is gone, just a fussier baby.

I also am suspecting he might be getting a bottom tooth
