Sparkler Mums and Babies Thread!

I also am suspecting he might be getting a bottom tooth

Oh wow!

It sounds like the midwife must think he is doing well anyway if she cancelled the appointment, so hopefully that's a good sign

Our appointment went well on the whole, although did leave me a little confused  I posted about it over in the breastfeeding section so won't go into it all here but the abridged version is that Toby has now been started on ranitidine, which won't stop him bringing back his feeds as such but should ease the discomfort he feels when he does as it reduces the acidity in his stomach so when he refluxes it shouldn't upset him as much now  The paediatrician also discussed something called lactose overload with me, which i had never heard of, but i've been doing some research and it is actually very common but commonly mistaken for lactose intolerance when it's actually a totally different thing. So we're going to hopefully find some ways to tackle that which may in turn help with his reflux.

The immunisations seem to have gone fairly smoothly too. He was heartbroken when they jabbed him the 2nd time and it was awful to watch, but he calmed down after a cuddle and has generally (touch wood) been fine overnight, no fever or anything, just a bit sleepier than normal, so i am hoping we got off lightly and not going to have a rough day or anything today (please!) as i hardly slept a wink.

Oh and Toby is now 12lb 9oz :cloud9: How incredibly awesome is that? :D

How is everyone else doing?

Glad to hear the jabs went well Rebaby :)
Snuggle - oh nooooooes! Give me a gummy baby for at least 6-9 months!

Where did we all go?! These two month olds are keeping us busy I guess!

Hope you ladies are doing well!
Cole had his first proper giggle the other day! The only one so far and it was lovely, even if he did scare himself by the noise! And he's starting to babble more each day. And we go for our jabs soon, I'm so scared for him!

How is your little man Snugglebot? Is it really a tooth coming in?!

Rebaby- Sounds like Toby is doing wonderful! Glad you guys found out what was bothering him. We're still playing a bit of a guesssing game with Cole!

Seraphim - How is little Miss Hazel?

And girlies, where are these pictures I'm dying to see?!

:hugs:

I still don't know if it is a tooth. A mommy friend confirmed it looked like her little man's first tooth but I haven't noticed much difference with him yet. He is drooling more though...

I have my last MW appointment on tuesday so I will have her look...hope it is a tooth and not thrush!!!

Finley had a red diaper again this morning...but it was after a 5 hour stint of sleep at night ... I feel awful being happy about the sleep but the MW did tell me not to worry...of course I can't help it! So I am on a rampage tonight to get him as hydrated as possible before bed.... my poor nips ...

Hi everyone.
Snugglebot - can't believe your little man has a tooth already!! Sorry to hear he's still having the odd red diaper though, good that the midwife doesn't seem too worried though.

Mommabunni - Cole sounds like he's doing brilliant, I love when they laugh and squeal with pleasure, and all the little noises they make! We have our first jabs on Thursday too (got a bit delayed due to Christmas and then Thomas had a cold) - I'm dreading it!

All is good with us, Thomas is coming along well, he's 11 lb 11 oz now, he has been gaining an average of 6 oz a week which is apparently fine. Sleep is still a bit all over the place, but he is going to bed in the evenings now, so I get to watch a bit of TV in the evenings and spend some non-baby time with OH! Yay!
The downside is that he's normally pretty disturbed from 4 or 5 a.m. onwards, oh well you can't have everything. OH keeps mentioning other people's babies who sleep through the night and asking why Thomas doesn't. I tell him it is best not to listen to what other people's babies are doing cos ours will do his own thing anyway!!

yup they will do their own thing and those babies may get a tooth or go travelling and then their routine will get messed up (not that I want that for anyone) but babies change all the time. Maybe Thomas will be sleeping through the night soon while they deal with teething.

Finley finally slept for 4-5 hours the last two nights so I feel sooo much better. I know he might not sleep like that again tonight but our bodies can handle the sleep deprivation...otherwise the human race would have gone extinct a looooooong time ago

It's so nice when they start sleeping for longer stretches! For the past week, Thomas has consistently slept for about 5 hours from when he was put to bed at 8 or 8.30 ish. The one exception: Thursday night when I went out to yoga class - he was awake from 9 p.m. screaming until I got home at 10. Do babies have extrasensory perception or something??

How are you ladies managing nap time?

Are you offering them at the same time every day? How do you get them to sleep? How do you fit in things like dr appointments or even just the need to get out of the house?

I can't get into a groove with Finley's nap time and that then makes his bedtime hard....

I think we got lucky *touch wood* that Cole is sleeping from anywhere between 9:30-11pm straight until 7 am. Sometimes he throws us a curve with a random night feeding (usually around 2/3am). But we have issues with naps during the day. He'll sleep until he just can't anymore if we're out. (Which he'll then throw a huge fit and we become "those" parents at the store :dohh:) If we're at home though, it's random. Sometimes a nap after a feeding, sometimes one a few hours later, it's a nightmare! You can't plan anything because of it! So we make sure his last feed is right before we go somewhere so he'll sleep while out. Otherwise, we hold him all day and bounce until he's asleep and pray he stays asleep if we put him in his seat!

Do babies have extrasensory perception or something??

 I've thought this so many times! Cole starts to cry the minute I'm sitting down to eat with the family. Each time. I haven't had a family meal since he was home from the hospital! Little booger!

Everything i have read seems to say that naps don't really fall into a regular pattern till LO is a bit older. I just watch for when Thomas is getting tired, normally after he's been up about an hour or an hour and a half, then soothe him to sleep. If i catch him before he gets overtired it works well, if not it doesn't!

Hi peoples!! Jac is now 13lbs 14 oz and will be 14 weeks old tomorrow. Has anyone else found it's gone insanely fast?

My LO is 2 months old on monday - I can't beleive it!

Tbh I'm still struggling a lot and not taking this as naturally as I thought I would've. LO has colic, I think - I don't know if its that or he is just quite unsetteld. His is such a wee food guzzler now though and on his last weight in was 12lb 9oz!!!

He doesn't really nap through the day at all, or if he does, it will be for an hour tops. He does however go down at 9 and sleep right through. he'll wake sometime between 3-6 for a feed then go straight back down again, so I think we're lucky in that respect. If only I could stop his tears, I would be a happy mummmy..

It has totally flown by! I am already dreading going back to work, it's going to be here much too quickly. I'm not going back till the end of September, but it is going to fly in.

Aw Jenny, I hope it gets a bit easier for you soon. I find that Thomas gets seriously cranky if he doesn't get at least one long nap during the day - but the only way I can get him to take a longer nap is to go out for a long walk with him in the pram - so I still don't get anything done, but at least he's a happier baby. It's so hard to cope when baby is crying and nothing really seems to help. I think everything does improve as they get a bit older, Thomas is just a few weeks older and he is so much more settled than he was a few weeks ago.

:hugs: Sorry to hear jenny about the colic. You are close to the 3 mo mark, I really hope that brings you a happier baby.

Finley has to be moving all the time or he is really cranky so I wear him alot, and that is almost the only way he naps unless he falls asleep on the boob - which surprisingly doesn't happen often because he has bad gas.

p.s. the midwife said the white spot was a cyst not a tooth. pfewf...my nipples get a few more months :)

:hugs: Jenny, hope LO doesn't have colic, but if he does, hang in there!

snugglebot - happy to hear it's not a tooth! I'm dreading that time too! Ick! And I pretty much hold Cole all day long too. DS doesn't like being put down during the day time to sleep or anything. I'm kind of glad to hear I'm not alone! Maybe it's a November baby thing!

raerae - Jac is so handsome! He's doing so well!

Hey girls, wow, time is seriously going fast!! Katie is doing well, she now weighs 12lb 14oz!! She is putting on masses of weight... its crazy!

Rae, its definitly time we met up... you around next week? This week is manic as DH is off so routine thrown (well what little routine we have!!) You still BFing? If so, want to come to breastfeeding support group with me? I can pick you both up and its only in Llanishen so nice and close. Its on a Thursday afternoon if you fancy it...

We are still breastfeeding and it is certainly getting easier. Katie has now decided though that despite taking to the bottle of EBM like a little pro, she now does not like having a bottle and so refuses to take it!! Anyone else had this?

Jenny, I hope things start getting better for you honey xx

Chrissie we are having the exact same with the bottle, and it started at about the age Katie's at now. He used to take it absolutely fine - we had got a little bit lazy about giving it to him and he probably didn't have a bottle for about a week and a half and then totally refused it when we offered. We've just been really persistent since then in making sure he has a bottle every day, just offering an ounce or two at first, it is getting a bit better now although he sometimes still refuses. Last night we went out for the first time leaving OH's sister babysitting and he took a bottle for her - I was SO happy! Although she had to give it to him with him sitting in the bouncy chair, he wouldn't take it when she was holding him. Other things that have worked for us are giving a bottle when he hasn't really woken up yet, getting him to suck a finger then slipping the bottle in, giving a bottle standing up and singing and dancing to distract him. Also we have found we have to heat the milk up quite a lot or he won't take it. Good luck with it, I was so upset when Thomas started refusing the bottle as you just feel like you will never have any independence!! My advice would be keep at it though as it does seem to be working for us
