Sparkler Mums and Babies Thread!

Mm weighing too often will just wreck your head - they do go through different tempos

Snuggle - Has he grown in length instead, Hazel does this... she grows out of a set of suits in 2 weeks just about :dohh:

Well, I've just plugged in The Monitor.
Crazy how I feel like I'm cheating by using it :haha:
I miss her - but in some ways life needs to go on.

Congrats to everyone... motherhood is crazy

Thanks ladies. I also called our telehealth service and they pointed out that if as a big baby born he might just be adjusting his weight to his "genetic" disposition, as long as all other indications are he is healthy. And generally they are. The only thing that bothers me (but not the nurses or doctors) is the uric crystals he gets.

But I realize that although he was big when he was born, I figure he was 2 weeks overdue and chances are where he sat on the curve wasn't a true reflection of where he will sit as a child...which is between 50-70th percentile vs the 90th that he was born on.

Anyways, that all said, I do wish he would go more than 2 hours at a time at night between feeds. I get one 4-5 break about once a week but it is just a tease. I am BEAT.

I wonder if I pump and boost my supply if that would help. I generally only give one breast at a time because a) I fall asleep b) he falls asleep and c) on the few times I offer he doesn't seem to interested or d) if he does take it, ends up spitting it back up anyways. He is super super gassy at night. Farts, squirms and cries, which is why he nurses so much I guess, but another reason why I am not too compelled to offer him more than one breast. I don't want to overload him on foremilk and he isn't always drinking because he is hungry.

I am curious what is the aversion to monitors? I find with my little guy that if I get to him before he "loses" it, my life is easier... but I guess maybe I am teaching him bad habits?? I thought they couldn't self sooth though until 4 months old?

Well done Thomas!!!! Culann rolled last night! And for goodness sake I missed it - was in the other room. LUckily OH was with him and just happened to be using the camcorder at the same time woohoo :)

I tried it with him this morning too and he did it! Was so proud lol...

I still have a bruiser on my hands, He was 14lb 9 last week but thats gone up even more now! hes sleeping quite well. Hes completely done by 7pm so we have to put him to bed. Hes stirring quite a lot at 3, 4, 5 and usually I just go over to soothe him and then feed him at 6.

Am exhausted this week myself, but I'm going to bed when he does so hopefully that will help a bit... :/

Aww congrats Jenny :)

I'm gonna have to start going to bed at Hazel's bedtime too... shes got the superwind that gets me up during the night. Waiting for the magical development that will ease it. Please don't say it's weaning

Snuggle - what you say about him being overdue makes sense to me

I don't have an aversion to monitors... just I've always kept H close by in her crib downstairs - and as you said its easier to resettle her if shes disturbed or reaches the end of a sleepcycle... but now it seems shes getting disturbed by us/goings on... so I thought I should try her upstairs with the monitor.

Aww clever rolling babies :D

I'm with you on the monitor thing sera- ours only came out of it's box last week as up until then Toby has always slept downstairs or i've gone to bed at the same time as him, so there's never been any need for it. Friday night was the first time he was asleep upstairs while me and OH sat on the sofa downstairs and it was BIZARRE!

While OH is on nights though when he is in work i cheat and just come up to bed with Toby and if i'm not ready for sleep fetch the laptop up to go on once he's fallen asleep. I figure it makes more sense than Toby being asleep up here on his own and me being sat downstairs on my own but creeping up here every 5 minutes to check on him

SPARKLERS!!!! Gosh how iv missed you all! SO SORRY iv not been in touch, i didnt have time at first then i forgot blah blah haha.

I haven't written ours yet

Haha i know how you feel! It feels like forever since i had him and i wanted to write it out but couldnt be bothered going into all this detail! If i had a pretty straightforward birth i probably wouldnt have written one.

xxx

Hey ClaireLouise - great that you found this thread! I haven't written my birth story yet either

Re monitors - I have just started putting Thomas upstairs in his cot for naps today. It's going much better than I expected considering I have always had to bounce him to sleep in his bouncy chair up till now. He is taking a few minutes to settle down and giving out a bit but no more than he usually did in the chair. But it feels so strange having him upstairs for a good chunk of the day!! It had to be done though - we were creeping around the sitting room so as not to disturb him and he never slept for longer than 45 minutes in the chair unless I kept on bouncing it. I was really expecting a battle to get him to take naps in the cot so I have been pleasantly surprised so far.

I think a big part of the reason that sleep is going a lot better is that Thomas has finally learned how to burp properly!!

I feel like everything is finally starting to come together now that he is four months old!

I feel like such a bad mummy sometimes. My friends LO sleeps up in her cot during the day too, but our days are so hectic that he usually sleeps wherever we are. The odd time he won't nap and gets cranky and overtired, but generally he naps in the car/pram/Grannys sofa/sling. He does like it And is a happy chappy but I still feel guilty :/

Jenny, if I could, I would.

H will happily go without naps though.
I'm just scared if I let that carry on then I'd have created some big problem???

She napped a fair bit today and I've missed her

Don't feel like a bad mummy :hugs: you're doing what suits you and your LO and you're doing great!

Toby doesn't even sleep in a cot at night so if you're a bad mummy think how terrible a mummy i must be :winkwink: Hehe.

I have definitely come to realise there are no right answers when it comes to parenting, you just have to go with the flow and do what seems to be the best thing at the time.

ClaireLouise- Welcome back and congratulations!

Hopefully I haven't caused an epic fail... I think I've made a graphic for sparkler sigs to link back to this group...

Should I have made it smaller do you think?

Now how to paste code without it being parsed
(just remove the 2 spaces, before URL and IMG)

ahh hello ladies!
i did not know this group existed!
it's nice to have a place where all of our babies are about the same age to talk about what's happening to them/us all.

:hugs:

I like it!! Maybe it could be a little bit smaller though! I don't know whether or not to put it in my signature seeing that Thomas was actually born in October, LOL. I still feel like an honorary Sparkler though!

Hey ClaireLouise, great to see you back and well done on writing your birth story... I also still haven't....oops! Ought to before I forget it all completely...

Well Katie is not sleeping upstairs in the evening but I do put her down in her moses basket in the lounge between 7 and 8 and often sleeps till 11 when I take her to bed to dream feed before putting her in carry cot. This is getting more frequent now which is good as she was not sleeping much in the evening due to be disturbed by dh and I all evening. She is still putting on weight - although I also should stop taking her every week as I am becoming obsessive about it.

Just cooking dinner now and hope for an early night as I am absolutely shattered. Catch you later xx

Hello ladies. Sorry for not coming on here more but I usually use BnB in my iPod which isn't entirely user friendly for places like this (well for me anyway!). I feel guilty as I was given so much support through my pregnancy by a lot of you :flower:.

In short, I adore my little boy, I adore being a Mummy and life is great. When u get chance to "fire up" the laptop I will read others postsand update properly.xxxx

Yup, I should make a smaller one... but at least a quick click click gets us together ;)

That's lovely Seraphim!

Glad to see the group near the top of the forum!

So, I have a question: Cole will only nap on me or DH during the day... Sleeps just great at night (usually 6-9 hour stretches *touch wood*) but I'd love to get him to nap in his crib for awhile before we move him to it for good. I've got no rocker in his room either, can't afford one right now as DH was out of work for a good solid two months after LO was born. Any ideas or tips?
