Not sure really whats going on or what to expect. My hubby and I have a little boy. He is our world, but there have been problems with his development. I raised these concerns 3 years back and was assured he would "catch up" being fobbed off and passed from pillar to post.

To cut a long story short (its been a nightmare road so far) the Paediatrician we did have left and we got a new one. The new one has done various tests and assessments, been referred to Child Psychology for them to do an assessment, and then back to the paediatrician.

Our son ticks several things within the autistic spectrum, but doesnt really tick just one specific one (not sure if that is common)

There is also now talk of aspergers, adhd, to name a few. He can go from a wonderful loving little boy to a child with so much anger and rage that its really difficult to keep up with the mood changes. His speech and language is severly delayed and I am so cross with the whole system for not listening to me in the first place and doing something all those years ago when I brought it to their attention.

Everything is still up in the air at the moment, assessments are being done at my sons school now too. This is to see if they can statement him so that he can get extra support.

Not sure if anyone else is in the same position and can offer advice on this? but it would be appreciated.

I don't really have any advice, except keep pushing for as much help as you need- the doctors can be very quick to fob you off. Good luck with everything xxx

I am in the US but once the school did an assessment of my son, things started in motion for him getting the help he needs. My son sounds a lot like yours.

He gets angry so quick at the smallest things, and the anger is a deep rage where he will throw and kick things, and it takes him forever to calm down.

My son also has developmental delays, he's speech has always been a little behind. But now that he's getting the proper help its getting much better.

My son was also having a hard time in school, unable to focus, getting angry when told to finish his work.

He was diagnosed with ADD. And since starting medication he is a different child! Hopefully once you have the school board backing you that your son needs some help the doctors will stand up and take notice. I wish you luck, let us know how it goes!

Hi
Im in Ireland so the system is probably different here but my advice is just keep at them, the autism liaison team, the psychologists, anyone who has any input.
It is a long road to getting a diagnosis. My daughter was diagnosed in 2010 with Aspergers and ADHD (mild). From her first referral to her diagnosis took almost 4 years. Now one year of that was my fault because i stuck my head in the sand but still, it is a process.

I dont know your in's and out's but thats the best advice I can give. Dont let up! I let things slip last year as I was going through a hard time and missed some appointments and now itfeels as if we are being punished a bit as we are back to the end of waiting lists for some services.
Thankfully my DD is mild enough and does well at school and is now starting to mix alot better

I hope you get your answers soon. If you have a diagnosis you have something to work woth
