I wish to get a spray tan. I've never had a spray tan before so I don't know what's involved. Also, I am BF. How do I get a professional spray tan safely without affecting my baby's BF?

This was taken from Kellymom

Sunscreen, Self-tanning products

Because these are topically applied, very little would absorb through the skin into the bloodstream and therefore into your milk. They should not be a problem for the breastfeeding mom and baby. Do be careful about applying it on the breast – make sure baby doesn’t get any in his mouth.

The spray tanning booths (also called UV-free tanning, airbrush tanning, spray on tanning, etc.) come under the category of self-tanning products. To prevent baby ingesting the self-tanning lotion, wash the self-tanning product from your breasts before nursing.

When i was pregnant i had a party to go to and had a spray tan, the woman putting it on refused to spray my tummy! RIDICULOUS!!!

As if the tan would seep through my skin and my organs to get to the baby!!! If anything i was more worried about the fumes!!! lol

Just make sure not to get your nipples sprayed also try and find somewhere that does an express tan that develops quickly as you can't hold your baby while it's developing as it will rub off on them and tint them! I am a beauty therapist and I use aviva express as it can be washed off after 1 hour for a light tan or 3 hours for a dark one. X vani-t and tantrick also do one as do a few others. Just tell them when you book. I wore my bra off the shoulders for my front to be tanned and then took it off for the back but you could apply Vaseline to your nipples and some surrounding skin. Mention it when you book and try to get a person applying it not a spray booth as the results are much better x

Thanks so much for the info! How long does a good spray tan last? and is there a good product that you can recommend to use at home? I have used the Jergens moisturizing lotion with a bit of tanner in it and it works well but I don't like the smell.

It depends how you treat the tan how long it lasts you'll get 5 good days out of it but any longer depends what you wash in you really need a body wash without sodium lauryth sulphate in it and going swimming will strip the tan. I like nouvatan products but not sure you can get them in the states? Otherwise I think st tropez foam is good as it's more of a brown tan but not the lotion it's too orange make sure to use gloves or you'll get orange palms! Usually when you have the tan they can recomend a home tan product make it last longer. Aviva labs products are good but you may only be able to get them in a salon.

Oh and make sure to exfoliate and moisturise the night before you will get better results. It's well worth getting sprayed though as it's quick easy and mess free!

I was going to get one too but I was going to only do face, arms, legs and shoulders as you don't shower the excess spray off for 24 hours so I didn't want to get any of it on my baby when I feed him - end up with a patchy baby and stained baby clothes :)

I've only had one spray tan. I got it professionally done and it was just a spray that went on me. You could always do that and just cover up your nipples and you should be fine! :) It lasted for me about a week and like 2 days.
