now thats where they are underhand.

I am sorry If I get in trouble for this

Crossroads I have seen your thread about having trouble with Bf
I really think you need to try alot harder with Bfeeding your baby if you hate formula so much

Infact worry about that instead of posting unhelpful comments on this thread

:(

My LO spent his first few weeks in a neonatal unit, for 6 weeks he was on my milk .. after 2 weeks of it, they decided it wasn't enough, and added fortifier to it - his weight gain improved slightly. They said when he went home, he'd be on 2 different medications. At 6 weeks old, he went onto Nutriprem formula, instantly started putting on weight well, was more content, didn't mess with his digestive system, came home on no meds... so all in all, I KNOW what's best for my baby :) :flower:

Edited to add, I didn't CHOOSE for him to go onto formula, my milk ran out due to the stress of having a preemie/travelling/him having a bad turn.. but in hindsight I think it worked out for the best.

Is making a choice because you don't believe there to be much of a difference between formula and breastmilk a real choice?

This is what I've been trying to say, but you worded it better than me :flower:

"Breast is best" was rammed down my throat the second I fell pregnant. I find it hard to believe that anyone would think that formula was better nutritionally.

I think everyone knows as you said that 'breast is best'. I think it comes down to whats 'best' for the mother and baby and this isn't always breastfeeding.

Personally, i don't think artificial feeding should be easily promoted to pregnant women, or be easily available. I believe deterring people from artificial feeding from the moment they are pregnant, whether that be no advertising etc would encourage alot more Mum's to just give it a go. Artificial feeding is too easily available these days, and these companies know that.

They make no money from breastfeeding

As a parent of 2 girls who I formula fed I resent referring to my choice as 'artificial' feeding, it's called cow and gate on the box not artificial. "My names Charlene and I feed my babies with cow and gate milk formula".

I never understand why people freely throw around comments like this among others, maybe if breastfeeding advice/support was easily available these days to every new Mum that would help and when it isn't thank goodness there is another option available. People talk like parents are thick and so gullible we're going to see an advert on TV or a poster and think YES thats what I will do because the TV says so, there are 2 options, it's very simple and it every parents right to make a choice of either and it's nobody else's right to slam either option taken.

For whoever asked Mums if they thought formula should be on offer, I never say no to saving money regardless of what it is, anything I don't spend 90% of the time goes on my girls anyway but general no I don't think it should be.

These experiences change mothers views on the different ways milks can benefit babies. If you've been there, you'll understand the importance of what baby needs far outweighs what you want for your baby!
One of the neonatal mums i met made such a rude bloody comment when i told her our baby was getting formula to help her....needless to say she swallowed her words when a few weeks later, her baby required the same!

I completely agree with you. That's why I am still, to this day, breastfeeding. My baby's needs come before my own.

I think we're all pretty aware that formula is a substitute thanks ;)

I actually wish i'd of given it a go - funny, i was all set for BF whilst i was pregnant, once i'd had him i was so out of it he got bottle fed, and i guess i just went with the flow, he was feeding well and thats what mattered to me. Nearly 4 weeks down the line i keep thinking about it.

Sorry that was a tad off topic.

"Artificial feeding"... that comment makes me SO angry.. honey, I hope your milk never runs out, or nothing ever prevents you from feeding your baby yourself - don't feel so smug, hey? It happens to the best of us, and I'd rather my son had this so called artificial milk than suck a dry nipple and starve :(

I'm not going to get into the whole BF/FF debate because that has nothing to do with the original post.

I agree that this is a very underhand tactic on behalf of the formula companies. Although on the surface it seems like they are offering support, their advice is actually very poor and could lead to milk supply problems. Women who want to breastfeed could end up having to supplement with formula (what a shame for the formula companies!). Sadly organisations offering good breastfeeding advice just don't have the same advertising budget as the multinational formula companies, so many women will not be aware that there is better advice available.

Another Mummy EYEBALLED me when I spoke with the nurses about introducing some formula.. I had to sit back and smile a couple of weeks down the line when she said the exact same thing.. obviously, I wasn't GLAD her milk was running out, but I was glad she had seen the other side of the story as such.

Its always the same it boils down to ffeeding mums being selfish, same old same old

I hope you never have to post a thread in the ffeeding section again cos I am not sure what sort of response you would get after this thread

No one is saying ff cant phone ! but why does a breastfeeder need to call SMA?
https://www.smanutrition.co.uk/Know...breastfeed/Information/tabid/434/Default.aspx

The helpline is for formula feeding initially but they have it that breast feeders can call for info to and its wrong info they give out.
why oh why are people in here thinking its about their choice to ff?

I'd just like to say that i had a look at the link you put & all the information about breast-feeding they gave on there is exactly what i was told by my midwife & hospital... so i guess she must be wrong to?! so maybe mums do need helplines & other people to talk to if midwife's are giving out the wrong informtation..!

its all personal choice. a baby that is formula fed is no less loved and looked after than a baby that is breastfed. but i don't see how any breast feeding mum can complain when formula adverts always state that breast feeding is best...?! personaly, i'm then led to feel like formula feeding is second best, i'm constantly judged my doctor, health visitor and mums i know that breast feed, so i must be failing my child by not breast feeding.. and surely that's underhand tactics on behalf of breastfeeding for making formula feeding mums' feel like failures?! my eldest son was breast fed and he's happy and healthy, and my second son was formula fed and he's happy and healthy too.. and as a mum thats all i care about!!
