Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

AFM- got a doctors appointment today at 3 pm MST...Not sure what all they will do. See how horrendously heavy I am for sure  and the asistant will undoubtedly comment on something about my shabby look and then bat her fake eyelashes at my dh :grr: Maybe when I pee in the cup to leave for her for testing I'll have a little...accident...:haha: (Is my Boston Terrier teaching me something?) WOuld serve her right...

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

HEHE.. good plan! Silly woman! Doesn't she know that your DH could care less about her? Too funny. Please tell us how it goes!

I can't wait to hear how it goes!!! :winkwink::haha:

Hi ladies! This is gonna be a long post- sorry! Need advice...
Well, just got back from my doctor's appointment. Everything went well to which I am extremely grateful, baby is kicking away, doctor listened to the heartbeat and it sounds awesome  I am a bit perturbed however at my doctor- just a tad bit is all...I think that the influence of his wife as a midwife is working a bit the wrong way. Maybe I am wrong, but he was asking if there is anything we are concerned about as far as techniques in labor--he is very eager to try out "techniques" and me? I am all for pushing that baby out of there as fast as I can! :haha: So I'm not really game for any back rubs or hot steaming baths or facials or having my nails done  it's all great BUT NOT DURING ACTIVE LABOR iykwim  I'd love it otherwise. Anyway when he asked about techniques (and you could see him get excited) dh looks at him and deflates his bubble by saying, "Um, no, my wife and I make a pretty good L&D team so we're not really worried" to which I added "If there is anything we would like to study more on it's not what we have already experienced doc, it's the unexpected...Like if baby gets stuck-what should we do at that point, or if babes heartbeat drops dangerously low, etc..."

Well, at this point he started hemming and hawing and hedging about MAYBE even if baby's heartbeat DOES drop dangerously low that doesn't mean we should do anything "I mean, my wife is a midwife and suggested to me thousands of babies are born that may have low hb's  we just don't know" :saywhat: WTF? If my baby is stuck and has a dangerously low HB I want a c-section ASAP! Aaargh! So some minor concern in that department

Then comes the part that has me really depressed. My weight! I weighed in at 140 pounds! :sad1: Doc mentioned that he prefers if I don't gain more than four pounds a month and he says I gained 7-8 pounds in the last 5 weeks so I am wondering wtf I am eating that's making me gain weight? Dh and I talked about it and I think I should cut out all the carbs. I don't eat much but maybe?

Ladies- I need advice ! Here is my typical day:
Morning: Cup of unsweetened tea or coffee (small) 2 pieces of toast with margarine or butter.
Lunch: Banana (1) and a small bowl of cheerios with 2% milk.
Dinner: A green salad, e.g., celery, lettuce, tomato, green onion, no dressing. A small (maybe two ounces) of lean chicken breast meat steamed or cooked on olive oil.

If I get hungry during the day I try to qwell it with something like a glass of milk or OKAY a glass of chocolate milk :haha: but rarely on the chocolate because of caffeine. If I am starving at night and the thought of cereal makes me yak I eat (and I know this one is bad) instant noodles with hot sauce. I do not use the packet of seasoning, just plain instant noodle with hot sauce on it. I do add salt however and wonder if maybe it's some kind of water retention? My ankles aren't swollen or anything, but...? Weights gotta be coming from somewhere.

I am going to start walking more without the girls so I can really move instead of amble :haha:
Take a look at todays pic and let me know if you think- and be honest!- I need to cut back more? Work out more? I will keep up the work-out Jess gave me too

Hi grey you look awesome in that pic wish I looked that good in pregnancy lol

As for low hb in labour I have experienced this in my last 2 pregnancies the 1st time was very scary and thought I'd lost him,I went into labour at 11am at 37+6 and at 3am next morning I still hadn't been monitored,mw decided to check me and baby's hb at 3.15am I was still only 2cm dilated but contractions intense, then they checked baby's hb and there wasn't one,all hell broke loose, they were trying to get canulater in me,on way to rushing to theatre ,I was screaming for dh who had gone home to check on kids and sitter, then I was knocked out,I came round to see my dh sat in chair holding our healthy 7lb 15oz son,if she hadn't checked me when she did things could have turned out very differently (I'm crying now just remembering it all)

The 2nd time was admitted at 34 weeks with contractions and was hooked up to monitor for baby's hb straight away,I was like this till 34+6 with a decrease in baby's hb with every contraction and they decided I didn't need a scan and was going to send me home,I aired my concerns about my last pregnancy with mw and she got me a scan to check baby,I was still contracting and baby still with dipping hb,they decided not to send me home and then at 12.30 am on my 35th week the dr came and said baby was in distress and taking me for em section,he was born at 35 weeks weighing 7lb 15oz (big for 35 weeks ) mikey was fine but I needed oxygen and a blood transfusion and kept in hospital a week after birth.

So please make yourself heard if anything happens with baby's hb during labour.

Coy, you are gorgeous, gaining an extra 3lb in 5 weeks, flippin' 'eck, I can gain that in a day by eating a chocolate bar. I think its more about how much you put on overall. Heck, surely all babies are different sizes and weights.

Doctors have a strange way of putting things, I mean, yeah, I do need to lose weight, a lot of weight, but when its a very overweight doctor telling me this, its a bit hard not to say anything back. I had a doctor once tell me, when I was caughing up blood "what can you expect when you're the size that you are?" I went absolutely barmy at him, I mean its not as if its something I can change while I'm caughing up blood, how about he treat the symptoms and I'll work on the weight. Luckily my Mum was with me or I would have been worse (I was probably only about 17 at the time - Oh my God, I just realised, that was 20 years ago!).

Thing I think needs saying is that if you are pregnant, yes, you need to keep an eye on your weight, but the worst thing to do is to starve yourself. It does seem like you eat pretty healthily anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about 3lb in 5 weeks. Sometimes, a drink of chocolate makes you feel better, so you should have it, just not loads of them. xx

Hi Ladies, another week, another 10+ pages to get caught up on, I hope you all had good news in there, I will read after posting.

I wanted to ask you about my AF - this time, was only one day and tiny, the time before was 2 days and just spotting, whereas usually heavy for 2-3 days. I turn 42 soon, am very worried this is the beginning of the Big M. Why am I so light? Last IVF was in March, surely I've recovered since then.

Meanwhile, am getting ready for the next cycle, starting next week. We're traveling soon and will be hard to BD while away (it's not all fun travel, DH needs to get back home, I need to get back home to my mother who will have an operation). But we really don't want to miss any TTC opportunities.

I just pray my light flow is not the end of it all.

Alex

Ok Coy...First let me tell you that your picture is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
I am not liking your doc right now...:nope: I am a little concerned that your doc is trippin' about your weight. You are 140lbs. That just doesn't seem like a lot considering I am 145lbs, I am not pregnant, I am shorter than you, and I am in perfect shape...Hmmmm.... I am not sure what his problem is but he needs to get it together.
I DON'T think you should cut your carbs. However, if you insist on changing your diet my only suggestion is to cut processed carbs. And by processed I mean anything that takes more than two ingredients to make. For example: Bread--flour, eggs, yeast, milk...already more than two ingredients. So, stick to potatoes and rice for your carbs. This also means no pasta (unless it is rice noodles) This should help a lot! This is also how I start all my new clients out when they first start working out and are looking to clean up their diet.
All the garbage about the dangerously low heart beat makes me so uneasy...I am not a doctor and I have only had one pregnancy that entailed ZERO complications...but I DO know that if they probably call it "dangerously" low for a reasn...go with your gut instinct!!
OK...I don't want to turn this into a "let's beat up Coy's doctor" post, so I'll stop now. Let me know if I can be of any help...:) :hugs:

Morning Ladies!

Coy you look fabulous! Do NOT listen to your Dr. He has lost his mind. You look like you are right on track to me. From what you have said your diet is good, don't cut out the carbs, you are growing a baby in there and you need the energy, as does the baby. Walking more is a good idea if you are really concerned about that extra lb! I wouldn't be overly concerned though, and your Dr shouldn't be either. I mean it's not like you were heavy before getting pregnant and extra weight could cause extra stress on your body or the baby. As for the Dr listening to his wife the Midwife, maybe you need to tell him that you are very traditional and want a straight forward childbirth and so on. Not having had a child before I'm really not sure how all of that goes, but seems to me like monitoring the HB and making sure the baby is not in distress should be the number 1 priority (well and making sure you are ok too). Right? Are there other Doctors in the area? Could you use another one?

Alex I don't know about much about AF being really lite like that. Mine are usually around 3-4 days of moderate flow and then it is kinda icky for a day or 2 or 3. Maybe there are some boards out there about it? Or just ask your FS?

Jess How are you doing today? Any more BD'ing? More make up sex? :haha: It can be so satisfying, sometimes I think I even start fights so we can have make up sex. Silly me!

AFM I have another headache, I'm starting to wonder if it is due to FertilAid. I took it this morning, and shortly after I had a headache. Could also be the stress. I haven't even started packing and I need to be ready to go tomorrow. AHHHHH!!!! :dohh: I'm going to leave work a little early today and get home to pack. Course if my head doesn't stop hurting I may be going home sooner than later.

Well said Jess! My trainers in the past have always been pro whole grain carbs. He always suggested to me that I have oatmeal with blueberries (or some other fruit) in the morning, then protein, grains and veggies for lunch, and then for dinner keep it light and have protein and veggies for dinner. What I would do is grill some protein (pork tenderloin, chicken, lean steak, etc) and a big grill basket full of veggies, then make 2 cups of rice in the rice cooker, and just eat that for lunch and dinner for a few days. When I was doing that, I was looking and feeling great! More recently I was doing the Paleo diet, which basically cuts out most carbs from grains. I ate a lot of sweet potatoes, and corn and squash. As long as I was still getting some carbs, I didn't feel hungry, and man was the weight falling off! Once I get to Canada I plan on getting back on a the diet, not sure if I will follow a strict Paleo diet, or just stick with the whole grains. Either way I feel great, and the weight does seem to fall off :happydance:

OOOOOOOO!!! I love the paleo diet! It is perfect. Takes gluten completely out of the equation!! :happydance: I don't have any severe gluten allergies but when I do eat foods with gluten in them, my joints will be a little stiff and sore in a matter of hours. Oatmeal is great with berries. Berries are some of the best fruits you can eat because they are fairly low on the glycemic index. Peaches and apples are good too!! Bananas are somewhat high. So I stay away from eating too many of those.

YEP! I'm not a celiac, but it is amazing how much better I feel when I cut gluten out of my diet. It is like everything is in sync, I have more energy, the headaches go away, the problem is that eating healthy takes time. There is the planning that goes into the meals, the shopping for the ingredients and then the prep and cooking! I am usually more inspired to cook and eat healthy when I have someone to cook for. When it is just me, I often say to hell with it and skip dinner, or have something I shouldn't. :nope: I need to get out of that rut. I am looking forward to the incredible produce sections at the grocery stores in Canada and all the fresh produce stands along the roads. Ontario produce is some of the best stuff ever. The fresh beans, and peppers and mushrooms, strawberries and blueberries. OMG I am in heaven when I am up there!

Morning Ladies!

I am soooo jealous! We have farmer's markets here. And most of the time you can find good stuff...but it is not everywhere. You have to know where to go to get the fresh stuff. But peaches, berries, and watermelons are FANTASTIC right now. And in addition to that, my parents have a produce section in their back yard!!:winkwink: They grow so much stuff in their garden and it is YUMMIE!!
As far as preparing the healthy food, I totally understand how time concuming it can be. But I am so used to it because I have had to do it over the years for competition prep. My diet is pretty strict at about 12 weeks out from a show. But I love it when I get to indulge!! I am a HUGE sushi fan!! And there is this place here in Austin called Sushi-nini's that is WONDERFUL!! I am hoping for some of that tonight!

MMM.. Sushi! I was thinking about sushi for lunch today. We often go out for sushi on Friday lunch. If we are trying to get pregnant, this could be one of the last times we have sushi for 9 or more months!

Hi ladies! Thanks for all your support! I am feeling better about it all today, I went for a poweer walk this morning - I hate calling them power walks but what else? :haha: Anyway that plus my weights the endorphins make me feel better. No more noodles for me  and I am cutting bread out - potatoes I killed a long time ago. Spuds and my butt just don't get along :haha: (I'm Irish..it's a love/hate relationship). So I am thinking if I stick to skim milk and shredded wheat or oatmeal for breakfast. Fruits, raw vegetables,etc.... I do once in a while eat meat like lean pork or chicken broiled.

Ali & Jess--what is the Paleo diet: If it involves eating squash I AM THERE! :haha:

Hello bnb ladies! :hi: I am off with the girls be back soon!

Ali & Jess--what is the Paleo diet: If it involves eating squash I AM THERE! :haha:

I know, I love veggies and squash, especially spaghetti squash. Sweet potatoes are yummy too :)

Here is a WIKI article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleolithic_diet

It is based upon our ancestors and what they originally ate back then. The assumption is that our bodies are designed to eat those foods, not the foods we eat today. So if we go back to what they ate, our bodies will run more smoothly, and we will have more energy and so on.

I just find that my body is happier when I am not feeding it gluten and dairy. Course the dairy part is more difficult because I LOVE CHEESE, YOGURT, ICE CREAM!!! :haha: So I try to stick to the veggies, roots, nuts, meats, fungi, etc, then have 1 serving of dairy a day, like a yogurt or maybe some cheese on whatever I'm cooking. I do feel that the calcium and the protein in dairy is good for you providing you do it in moderation.
