No, I don't drink or smoke either and have always tried to stay fit, I like to work with weights, etc, and active outdoors...I gave up caffeine also. I read that caffeine impedes the flexing motion of the fallopian tubes thus preventing the fertilized egg from traveling toward the uterus. The egg will then die if it cannot get implanted, or it tries to implant in the tube- both bad! So I decided much safer to give it up til after baby is born! I had a miscarriage in November-I was 12 weeks along but baby died at 8 weeks. The doctor and I hazarded a guess that maybe the corpus luteum died too early and therefore my progesterone level dropped- so now I am on progesterone vaginal suppositories at 100mg a day. From what I have read progesterone during pregnancy should e at 90-100 so I am comfortable with this so far. I started it about 17-18 days ago. Got ms about a week ago or so. And scheduled for my first scan in March.
How long have you been ttc? Do you already have chidlren or will this be your first? I have two dd :)

This is 1st month officially trying,we havent used protection since ds was born 15 months ago (we have 5 boys) so this is no 6,i had a mc at 6 weeks in june 2004 and a mmc at 12 weeks in july 2007 baby had died at 10 weeks,i dont drink tea or coffee but am a sucker for coca cola lol.

Grey Eyes- How are you today? I was thinking of testing today but thought I would wait until tomorrow. I will be 11 dpo tomorrow.

Did you hpt today??? I checked out your chart- your temps look good! In fact 98.1 was the temp I had the day I got my bfp on frer! I hope you get your :bfp: soon! Keep me posted:friends:

Ovarian Stem Cells Make Human Eggs in Possible Aid to Fertility
February 27, 2012, 8:37 AM EST
By Ryan Flinn

Feb. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Stem cells taken from human ovaries were used to produce early-stage eggs by scientists in Boston who may have created a new method to help infertile women.

Females have a fixed number of eggs from birth that are depleted by the time of menopause. The finding, published today in the journal Nature Medicine, challenges the belief that their ovaries can’t make more. The research was led by Jonathan Tilly, the director of Massachusetts General Hospital’s Vincent Center for Reproductive Biology.

Tilly reported in 2004 that ovarian stem cells in mice create new eggs, or oocytes, in a way similar to how stem cells in male testes produce sperm throughout a man’s life. His latest work, if reproduced, would suggest the same is true for human ovaries, potentially pointing at new ways to aid fertility by delaying when the ovaries stop functioning.

“The 50-year-old belief in our field wasn’t actually based on data proving it was impossible, or not ongoing,” Tilly said in a telephone interview. “It was simply an assumption made because there was no evidence indicating otherwise. We have human cells that can produce new oocytes.”

In the study, healthy ovaries were obtained from consenting patients undergoing sex reassignment surgery. The researchers were able to identify ovarian stem cells because they express a rare protein that’s only seen in reproductive cells.

The stem cells from the ovaries were injected into human ovarian tissue that was then grafted under the skin of mice, which provided the blood supply that enabled growth. Within two weeks, early stage human follicles with oocytes had formed.

7-Million Eggs

A female is most endowed with oocytes, or eggs, as a fetus, when she has about 7 million. That number that drops to 1 million by birth, and around 300,000 by puberty. By menopause, the number is zero. Since the 1950’s, scientists thought that ovarian stem cells capable of producing new eggs are only active during fetal development.

“This paper essentially opens the door to the ability to control oocyte development in human ovaries,” Tilly said.

About 10 percent of women of child-bearing age in the U.S., or 6.1 million, have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most cases of female infertility are caused by problems with ovulation, hormone imbalance or age.

The study by Tilley and his colleagues offers “a new model system for understanding the human egg cell,” said David F. Albertini, director of the Center for Reproductive Services and professor in the department of molecular and integrative physiology at Kansas University, in a telephone interview.

‘Practical Applications”

Still, “there’s a long way to go before this has real practical applications. I’ve spent 35 years of my life studying egg cells and this is a cell that is at least as complicated as a neuron in the brain, if not more,” Albertini said.

The work needs to be reproduced and expanded by other scientists “to make it into something that will make us confident the cells are safe to use and we could actually use them to repopulate an egg-depleted ovary,” he said.

Tilly’s team is exploring the development of an ovarian stem-cell bank that can be cryogenically frozen and thawed without damage, unlike human eggs, he said. The researchers are also working to identify hormones and other growth factors for accelerating production of eggs from human ovarian stem cells and ways to improve in-vitro fertilization.

“The problem we face with IVF is we don’t have many eggs to work with,” he said. “These cells are renewable. If we are successful -- and it’s a big if -- in generating functioning eggs from these cells, we can generate as many eggs as we need to on a per patient basis.”

Tilly is also collaborating with researchers at the University of Edinburgh in the U.K. to determine whether the oocytes can be developed into fully mature human eggs for fertilizing. The U.S bans creating or fertilizing embryos for experimental purposes, he said.

A company Tilly co-founded, Boston-based OvaScience Inc., has licensed the technology for potential commercial applications.

Grey eyes- how is the ms? I haven't been on for a while as I was all day in my car driving 3.5 hours each way to a hockey game for my dd!
AFM- 12dpo and no sign of af yet. Tested with FMU yesterday and BFN. I was bummed but as I said earlier I know it will happen when the time is right. My temp was still up at 98.1 this morning so will see if I have a drop tomorrow?

Hi,

I am new so not sure what all the abreviations mean yeah so be gentle. I am nearly 38 well in a may and have been TCC for nearly 2 years. My partner is fine(lucky whatsit) but I not ovulating so am on clomid, ive done 3 cycles at 50mg and now amdue to start the 100mg middle of March I have 3 goes of that and then IVF which scare me to bits. I feel so much pressure to get pregnant in the next 3 months I am sure its not helps my cause. I also have been told to lose at least 2 stone before my next appointment in 5 months time else no IVF. More pressure. I wish I hadnt left it so late to have kids but then I guess I wasnt with the right person prior to this.
I have everything crossed for the next 3 months.

WElcome scrappydoo:flower: I know the feeling of pressure but I finally decided to stop putting deadlines on it. You have to believe it will happen and do everything in your power to make it more possible:hugs:

There you are!:friends: Maybe wait a few days and test again if AF doesn't show....your temps look awesome though, I checked out your chart :)

AFM- almost all day no matterw hat, I try to control it with crackers and keeeping something on my stomach. I am not complaining though! My next doc appointment is coing up in...6 days. Doc said I'd have a scan then  but not sure if he wants to do it the same day. Fx'd !

Thanks Grey eyes:hugs: I've been busy with the kids and all of their activities. I'm exhausted. I was hoping it meant that I would get my BFP but my temp dropped today to 97.8 so I'm thinking I'm probably out this month:cry: I'm not having any af symptoms yet but I'm only 13dpo and I think I usually have a 13 day lp. I have to say on the positive side if af shows I am still happy with the fact that my lp is back to it's normal length this cycle. Since my mc it has been more like 9-11 days long which I think is considered too short:shrug:
Sorry about your ms. I feel so happy for you though because this is a good sign that all is well:thumbup:Good luck with your apt and I hope you get your scan on the same day. Let me know how it goes.Fx'd for you.
I do feel like my BFP isn't that far away I just have a feeling..... I know we are doing everything right we just need to believe it will happen and leave the rest up to God:hugs::hugs:

Thanks, I tried not put time limits on things but the docs had other ideas. They only ivf until 39 so i dont have forever unfortunatly. So pressures on. Wish you luck x

Just to let you guys know,Af arrived about an hour ago so a bit bummed but not surprised with the dip in temp this am. I am ok with it. I feel like my body is still recovering from my mc and that it is finally getting back to normal. i have 3 more months to try before I go back to the FS.

How old are you? I didn't know they had an age limit :dohh: of ALL THE DUMB THINGS. :growlmad: No sweat, how long have you been ttc? It only takes once! in the famous words of my dh:) :hugs: :dust::dust:

Hi please can you help, where do I put my tickers, and how? I see everyone has one but cant seem to figure out how to do it??

Grey eyes- Thanks so much! I had a cry with my good friend today. More because I know that it will happen when the perfect baby for me is ready to come into the physical world. I'm so happy for you and just have to believe I will be there very soon. As for my lp I think 12 days is good. That's what it was this last cycle. The cycle before this it was only 11 days and before that it was 10. Before my mc it was always 12-13 days. I feel like my body is just taking a little longer to heal. Maybe my age? What is your normal lp?

Hey ladies! GUESS WHAT!?? I got my BFP in November!!! I finally did it! How are you all doing? It has been a while since my last visit! I hope some of you have your BFPs too! I am now almost 18 weeks. AMAZING! HUGS ALL!
