Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Chantal------ Big, long hugs today! I am so sorry and know that you are in our thoughts!

Alicatt- How are you doing? You are one busy lady? btw when are you starting your new FET? AF came today:cry: So I guess I'll start my next cycle next time? end of April? My only fear is that my ovaries alternate with months and I'll land on the Left ovary again. I had my WTF appointment April 4th:shrug:, but realized I'm taking my niece and nephews to see Minnie and Mickey and that's more important:happydance:

Coy- I'm annoyed with your Doctors. I think they need to be reported to the Board of whatever. A complaint should be made. You can't say you won't see one child because the other one didn't need to come in. They suck!:nope: 300miles! What! That's crazy!

Oh margaritas! I wish I was around the corner I would make you one. They are made with run and fruit juices... frozen with sugar or sale on the rim. Yummy! I had mango margaritas! I'm a martini gal, but the margaritas were there and yummy.

Babywhisperer- My doc is Dr. Kreiner. I was given a referral for Dr. Palter. Who are you seeing? I'll see how it works out.

Well. I have a busy week. I'm sticking to my Freshology today. And I had this workout called TAP OUT delivered to my house. It's almost like Insanity. I really should open the box and try it. Acupuncture is delayed until Thursday. AF is killing me today! Hate her!:growlmad:

Chantal..

 Hope you are doing OK! As Coy said, I'm sure it will be an emotional day. Go with it, and let yourself grieve, and hopefully soon you can start looking towards DE and all that is involved in it.

Babywhisperer- I am getting excited for you! When do they do the, um... :spermy: injection

The hot turkey baster injection? I don't know yet. Maybe I will get some clarity on Wed. It was funny dh and I went into the dr yesterday at 8:30am and the place was packed for women doing their monitoring. Dh took a look around and said "this does wonders for the ego, seeing over 50 people on a Sunday waiting for the same thing". I just can't help but wonder why we can't get prego. If IUI doesn't work maybe we will get some answers from the IVF process.

That is great news.. having 4 follies at 10mm :) Are there 2 on both? Or are they all on one side? It is also good that they are all the same size, it is bad when there is 1 really big one and then several medium sized ones. I used Gonal F too when I was doing my IUIs. It wasn't too bad. Headaches and fatigue. So once they get to the right size, they will ask you to trigger, then 36 hours later you'll either do TI or an IUI. If you are opting for an IUI have you thought about doing 2 back to back? I did that, and while it didn't help with me, it could help with you  You can ask the FS next time you see him. So the IUI is pretty simple. On the day of, you'll get there early, DH will give his err.. sample. They'll spin it, get the liquid out, and all the bad ones too, then when they are ready they'll call you back in and inject them into your uterus. It is kinda like a really tiny turkey baster! Then you will lie on your back with your legs up there and wait for them to go where they are supposed to go. Then you wait! This might be TMI, but while you are waiting, it is sometimes thought to be good if you have an "O". The female "O" gets contractions of your uterus happening and that helps prod the little guys along. Or you can wait until you get home

Yeah there are 2 follies on each side. I don't know if my Dr does back-to-back IUI or just 1 day...I have a feeling it's 1 day. If I'm at 10mm could I possible trigger by Fri or Sat?

How's things with V man?? :flower:

Sorry about the witch hun. I am at Cornell with Dr Spandorfer. He was ref to me by a close family friend who is an obgyn and trusts him implicitly. He even sends his med students to Spandorfer to intern. I went for consults at North Shore, but after waiting almost 2 hrs for 1 appt, over an hr for another and not getting calls back from the Dr they tell me I need to schedule a consult to get any question answered I said F this. They created more stress and aggravation than is necessary. At Cornell we have never waited more than 20min, nurses call you back if you have questions, and they are on top of pre authorizations, ordering meds and getting stuff done on time. North Shore would be more affordable and they participate with Attain, but Cornell is #2 in the country...we felt strongly it was worth the investment. I do have friends who swear by North Shore and Winthrop though and had great experiences.

Good for you with trying the Tap Out workouts, they look killer!

Btw I love margaritas too...I love Don Julio silver tequila, fresh lime, grapefruit juice, or blood orange juice and a Grand Mariner Floater...I try not to have these too often, they are potent and very high calorie :dohh:

I went to LI IVF/ East Coast Fertility. I never waited. My problems was with the initial start up. North Shore and Winthrop would be more convenient for me, but I don't know anyone that went to them. I heard Dr. Palter was great, but once again idk. I wish I could go to Cornell, but that would be a trek everyday for me.

OK so yes you will probably start again during your next cycle. One of the biggest falacies about how we ovulate is that we switch back and forth between each ovary each month. That is not true. We all have a dominant ovary, and that is where we ovulate about 60-80% of the time. Then 1-3 cycles a year we'll ovulate from the other ovary.

When you do IVF both of your ovaries should produce eggs, I had about even coverage between the 2 (and that is after having surgery on one of them). So it is a little abnormal to only get follicles/eggs from just one ovary. I would definitely bring that up in your WTF appointment. Ask him to explain why only one of your ovaries responded. Make him look at your ovary in the US and do an antral follicle count on the one that didn't have any eggs. I guess it is entirely possible that only one of your ovaries is in working order  but I've never come across that before.

Glad you are doing the freshology again! If for not other reason then to ensure you are getting all the good nutrients!

Please ask him if there are other things you can do to improve your egg quality! Like DHEA or supplements. Maybe you can get your DH to take supplements too?

Oh, and yes AF is really bad after IVF, its because of all the hormones and all the added progesterone. It isn't fun, so I hope you make it through! The acupuncture should help. Oh and reschedule your WTF appt so that you can go out with your niece and nephew!! Waiting a few days won't make a difference, and family time comes first!

How's things with V man?? :flower:

Possibly? I think you could trigger as early as Thursday and as late as Saturday, it will just depend on how fast they grow, and if they grow at a uniform rate or not. They may push them an extra day if say one is at 18 but the others are 16. They will know whether they can do that by looking at your e2, p4 and LH! So exciting!!! Can't wait to hear how it all goes!!!

Alicatt- When I first saw him and he did a sonogram, he could tell I ovulated from my right ovary and when he did the antral follicle test he could see follies on both sides, numerous follies. So IDK! I asked the doctor during stimming.. and he said no explanation, sometimes one side just gets lazy..

When are you starting your FET?

Sams.. I'm currently going the test cycle, and they will do the biopsies next week. Then we wait for AF and we do the real cycle. If I get AF around CD 28, then we'll be doing the real FET around May first. So 5-6 weeks!!!
I only wish my Mom could still be here to go with me! She has to go back to Canada at the end of April

Sams - "Board of whatever" hahahaha LOL! YES. I should.

So here's the deal. He examined her and said she def needed a strong antibiotic for at least 10 days. So he prescribed that. Then he discovered somethin else- he said my baby girl has a heart murmur! And that the other docs probably discovered it and never said anything :saywhat: :growlmad: Aahhhh I needed that like a shot to the head.

Cornell has an office on Franklin Ave in Garden City too.

Heart murmurs are actually quite common in children, they grow out of them as they age. I had one when I was little and I grew out of mine. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but just have the Pediatrician watch it. I'm glad they gave you some stronger antibiotics! They should have given you the same thing that your DH and T had.

Hopefully she recovers from her spots soon!

So I pick up her meds, go grocery shopping, come home start dinner, do dishes, feed babes, and tell dh "I guess I'll go cut wood" and he sits there watching tv and doesn't say anything. O I hate to say it but I am a bit po'd atm....there's a lot I am not saying, lol.

UMM.. hello? DO NOT CUT THAT WOOD! You have a broken rib! OMG. Tell your DH to get off his a$$ and cut it. :growlmad: :ninja: He needs to help out!

Coy- Your DH needs to get to appreciate you. Maybe leave him with the kids for the afternoon! OMG I'm gonna come through the computer!:growlmad::growlmad::growlmad:

Heart murmurs are common and sometimes will never effect the person that has them. She can have an absolutely normal life without any effect. You will probably just have to monitor it. She will be okay!:flower:

Alicatt- Yeah we will probably go through our next cycle together! I'm sorry your mom is going home...:nope: You have us. :winkwink:

Babywhisperer... thanks for the information. I'll look into it.

SAMs.. we could be pretty close together for our next cycles!

I'm having really bad cramps right now.. I think the patches are working, my boobs are sore and my uterus is cramping. I also have bad stomach pain, I think I better take an antacid. :grr:

At least I'm at home tomorrow. Then I have to take Zoe to the vet, the. grocery shopping! Wednesday I'm having a friend over for dinner and closing on my house (refi) and need her to be a witness. She's Jewish and also GF, and her son is a picky eater. So I had to come up with a meal we could all eat! So we're having a beef brisket, canned green beans (only way he'll eat them) and roasted potatoes. I can't remember the last time I ate canned vegetables  Anyway, I'm happy to make something for them since they will be doing me a huge favor as my witness! Just funny all the diet restrictions! :haha:

Hello ladies,

Thank-you all for your prayers. Reading all your posts was very comforting :hugs:
I started reading through all the posts I had missed last night. Alot to catch up on!

Coy- I am sorry you have been through so much stress with your children's doctor. It just didn't make sense to me why they wouldn't see Kat because you cancelled Teagen's appointment :nope: AS for Teagen's tonsils having to come out, my ENT said he only removed them if they were causing more harm then good. They filter the air so do have a function but when they are making you sick all the time, it is better to have them removed. I felt like a new person after mine came out. No more tonsilitis or ear infections so I was able to join the swim team  Aeryn will be ok with her heart murmur. Like Ali said alot of people I know outgrew theirs. My good friend Karen who still has it just has to be careful when she goes to the dentist. They have to give her an antibiotic before any dental procedures.
Sorry if I sound mean when I say this but your dh is using his illness as an excuse not to do anything! :growlmad: You have also been ill and I am concerned about that rib of yours! You need to stop chopping wood! I think you should have some delivered! This will give your poor ribs a chance to heal. Big hugs for you :hugs:

Angel how are you feeling? Are you going to your first prenatal soon or if you have been already how did it go?

Ali, Sam and Babywhisperer I am looking forward to your iui, ivf and FET cycles. Exciting! :happydance:

Babywhisperer your "hot turkey baster injection" comment made me smile :)

Sam I did the same as you after my 1st ivf, I excercised alot and became a healthfood nut. So determined for the next cycle!

Ali sorry your mom is leaving. She is so supportive. My Mom said not to try to have anymore babies it is too heartbreaking. So I can't share with her if and when I go through with egg donor. Dh's Mom has been very supportive. She doesn't agree with spending 30 k for egg donor though. (yes in the last 6 months since our consult the price went up I found out when I watched the webinar)

afm-yesterday woke up to 4 inches of snow outside. It continued to snow all day. I got to the women's center at 9 :30 am but they had me hanging out (covered with nice warm blankets) I didnt have my procedure till noon and the lady who gave me the local anesthetic was very nice. She and the doctors talked with me about Barbados etc through the procedure to keep my mind off the cramps. I felt very drugged and relaxed. I had to have another rhogam shot since the one I had on the 3rd march had just expired.(I am A-) Well guess that was my fault for waiting one more week. :growlmad:It was 2 pm by the time they let me leave. On my discharge papers they called it a d & e? although they kept asking me to confirm that I was having a d & c. Dh decided to work from home after he brought me home. I have lots of chores piled up and so yesterday helped me bring up the loads of clean laundry from the basement and helped me fold.

During the last hour I was cramping really badly and vomitting. It has passed now but I feel totally wiped out :nope: I called the womens center and they said that if it happens again to go to the ER as I may have some clots and sometimes they do not get it all and I might have to have another d & c. Praying not. I do find it strange that I am not bleeding at all? Going to take a nap with my hot water bottle. Ibuprofen seems to be staying in my stomach now.

OUCHIE! Definitely go crawl into bed with your hot water bottle and hopefully the cramping and nausea will reside. I hope you feel better soon!

My Update (if anyone cares). Met with a new OBGYN. The first time I went to a male gyno, and surprisingly I didn't care. I guess age does that to you.

First off...their scale is WAY OFF. Like 12lbs. I weigh myself religiously everyday, and it literally had me 12 pounds heavier, and that was after a workout this morning; however, I did eat breakfast. Had I known they were planning to weigh me, I would have skipped breakfast. This whole scale situation had me all wound up; I made them weight me again...then I refused to believe it. I found myself dwelling on it; because if accurate, this would be the heaviest I've ever been in my life, even though I still exercise daily and eat salads for lunch and dinner every day. When I returned to my office, I promptly order yet another scale for home. I will get to the bottom of this situation!!!

I was not expecting the doctor to do a thorough investigation of what's doing in my vaggie, but he did. He even did the ol' ultrasound wand up my vaggie. We looked at my uterus and he determined that I had indeed ovulated this month. We looked at my ovaries, and they looked healthy with great looking follicles, no cycsts or anything weird. They're so cute on the sonogram, I felt like I should give the ovaries name. Yes, I even have a favorite.

When the check up was over, we met in his office. My mother had a horrible case of endometriosis and had a hysterectomy at the age of 32, she also had an ovary removed when she was 18. Based on my history, and desire to have children, he is advising that I do the surgery thing to check to see if I have endometrosis. Also, suggesting the dye in the tubes, as well. Of course, there's the whole situation with my husband, which clearly isn't improving our odds. I told him after we do this, if we don't get preggers, so be it, it's nature weeding out our gene pool and perhaps for a reason. He respected my decision for not wanting to do IVF, and said he thought it was "wise" even though it would probably offer us the best chances of getting pregnant. (to be noted: he does IVF procedures as well, so I thought that was interesting). He respected the fact that I want to get to the source of the problem, rather than just throw hormones and ART at it. THANK GOOOOOOODDDD I found a doctor who sees what I'm trying to do here. I'm so happy about that. Regardless, if I end up pregnant or not, it's just nice to have a doctor who respects your decisions and doesn't offer the quick, mechanical response to your dilemma.

Now...about that frickin' scale.

Melly.. Of course we care! Glad that you stopped in to give us an update. I'm glad you have found an OBGYN that is so thorough and understands your point of view. It is refreshing! Wish there were more like him!! I'm surprised he does IVF as it requires specialized labs and an OR etc. I have heard of clinics that are staffed with the IVF lab and an embryologist, and then OB's can go in and use their facilities. So maybe that is what your OB does

Glad you are ovulating, it is such a relief when they can go in there and see the corpus luteum! I would definitely get the tube test done to see if that might be causing your IF issues.

I'm not so sure I would opt for exploratory surgery to see if you have endometriosis. Just because your Mom had endometriosis doesn't necessarily mean you do too. The reason I say that is that there are risks with any surgery, and you don't really want to have surgery unless you need it. Laproscopic surgery is still surgery and if you do have a mild case of endometriosis, the surgery itself can cause the endometriosis to attach to where your surgery scars are, and only make things worse. So I'm not sure I would have the exploratory surgery unless you have the symptoms of endometriosis, or you have the tube test and it shows that one or both of them are blocked. I do hope that you get to the bottom of your TTC issues, and we are here to discuss those issues, or suggest alternatives.

In the meantime you could try taking supplements to help improve your fertility and your DH's. I believe that Chantal (never_give_up) has more experience with supplements for Men. I have taken CoQ10, Royal Jelly, Maca Root and a few others, and I really think they helped me get some great eggs during my second IVF cycle. They may help you and your DH as well!

Good luck, and FX'd for you! :dust:
